This guy has some interesting, helpful Seal tid-bits in his videos. His voice is rather odd!

In this video he demonstrates holding the voice activation button, but it doesn't work for me. Anyone know why?

Was going to try this out today, I think you have to be connected via Android Auto ( Google Assistant) or CarPlay ( Siri ) for it to work.

Yes, a very unusual accent, in the video ( if that is him ) doesn’t help me recognise his accent at all.

I feel so much better now, but wait what? Wasn't it written in the Thai subsidy program that for every imported vehicle manufacturers have to produce and sell (not export) 1 car in 2024, if not 1.5 cars in 2025?

    This is what was written:

“ However, there is a requirement that if 100% electric vehicles are imported for sale, they must produce 1 times domestically by 2024 (2024) or extend the period to by 2025 (2025), but must produce 1.5 times.“

Did you invent the “ and sell ( not export )” part yourself ??

I am a bit worried 😟 that BYD has saturated the Thai EV market even before their local factory has opened.

They will have to export their way out of that hole.

We have to go back to around 2003 to find sub 50,000 car sales numbers for Thailand. Apart, of course for a few months during Covid.

Don’t be worried the intention was always to export Thai manufactured vehicles.

“ BYD's 100% electric and plug-in hybrid plant is expected to start production in 2024 with a production capacity of 150,000 units per year for domestic sales and export to countries in ASEAN and Europe. The Board of Investment has approved large-scale investment projects in the production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs: 100% electric vehicles) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). “ Sept 2022

You certainly can. But you must use a VPN connected to your home country, and give them an address (can be any, a friend's or a family member's), and a phone number.

You will even get your physical card sent to your door in Thailand by DHL, if you say you're on a vacation there, if they ask.

Been there, done that. I opened an account while in Thailand.

    Then you're good to go.

    Don’t need the U.K. VPN .

I signed up, no VPN, Thailand phone number and U.K. address, no problems.

Would EPA not be for the US?

Yes, apparently it’s the Environmental Protection Agency

and probably refers to miles not kilometres, which would explain the vast difference between the other 3 range “ standards “.

CLTC range applies to vehicles sold "in China".   BYD models like the Seal, Atto, Dolphin sold in Thailand display in NEDC range.

WLTP seems more realistic, quite a few Atto owners posted on FB they changed from NEDC to WLTP at their respective showrooms for a small fee of course !

Never heard of EPA but appears to be for the owners of lead boots !!

Dynamic works for me, obviously there are differences in range between fast highway driving and stop start city driving but with around 75% city and 25% highway i am not far away from WLTP

  7. Just as a follow up to my rather long story:

I suggested that my wife and bil Orr visit the GWM showroom on the premise of changing the name/access to the app, meanwhile Orr could engage a salesperson in a little question and answer session about the Jolion and in particular it’s Hybrid qualities.

He declined the suggestion and i get the impression he will continue to drive the car oblivious of the regen settings or the one-pedal mode.

    Well, i tried …….

Interesting story and happy ending........ good to hear!

There is one little morsel in your post that triggered me for an entirely different reason......... 'I actually didn’t mind adding another 450 km to my Seal odometer' - implying your car was sitting in your car-port fully charged? With an ICE powered car, being low on fuel and an emergency like this comes up would not even make you think for a sec - with an electric vehicle and low battery, it could become quite embarrassing rather quickly.

Do you guys really keep your battery close to the max all the time? or rather, have a second car as emergency back-up on hand?

Actually was at 70% and being on a Sunday I would have charged it to 100% that day, I have a TOU meter.

My routine is to leave the range to drop and do a long charge on a Sunday to take advantage of the cheap TOU tariff, normally it would be less than 70% but that week we had been using the Jolion for the short trips to make sure it was all okay. If it gets close to 50% then i charge o/night.

On this occasion I could see that I just wouldn’t have enough range to get back home so a quick ice tea at a Bangchak pump ( PEA Volta 50 kWh ) was enough to top up to make it home with 20% and then charge back up to 100% at home.

Travelling to the mil’s once a month ( around a 450 km round trip and nearly always on a weekend ) is ideal to get the range down for a long charge back at home for the battery balancing.
