A cautionary tale:
I was contacted yesterday by a poster in the U.K. who has had a Seal for 2 weeks now.
For whatever reason the showroom were polishing his car and an over zealous employee had managed to remove the silver coating on the front BYD logo.
( I had mentioned earlier that the front badge is unusual in that it is almost transparent, shine a light inside can be seen outside, and I think at one time it was designed to be illuminated ).
Now, because of the way the badge is mounted ( plastic welded ) the front bumper needs to be removed to repair/replace the badge, something the owner is not happy to do on a 2 week old car.
The showroom seems lacking in knowledge of the car,
a) to cause the damage in the first place.
b) they seem to be unsure how to proceed and are giving him the run around about how they will fix it.
So, a brief mention to your detailer to avoid the front badge when polishing can avoid a world of pain.

A near neighbour died last week of an aneurysm, aged 56, nice fella had a van and sold lottery outside the local 7.
The old lady and myself paid a visit to the local temple for the 7 o’clock chanting. The car park was busy and a lot of people attending, we managed to secure a couple of seats near the front outside ( inside was already full ).
I was just thinking that he had attracted a lot of people when I saw his photo near the refrigerated “ coffin” ……. yup !…. it wasn’t him !!
Our friend was in another smaller room around the back with about 6 people!!
Anyway he had ( yup, I can’t even remember his name !! ) just 4 monks but their chanting was amazing, really melodic and each one slightly offset to the others making a really hypnotic type of music.
They finished their lengthy part and left the stage with their “ gifts “. Another 4 ( one was a returnee ) came on and did similar hypnotic chanting, it was like some religious Battle of the Bands !! Never seen this before.
Note: not trying to diminish the effect of the obviously harrowing funerals of your local children @owl sees all just thought it of interest.

Stop complaining - at least you get over 500 km of range, with the AWD model only a female driver will get over 450 km 🤪
On a more serious note - what is your total kWh/100 km reading?
My cumulative is 13.7 kWh/100 km, my past 50 km is 12.6 kWh/100 km as I slowed when the 10% red lettering and warning popped up ( vaguely recalling the post about range disappearing rapidly below 10% ).The point of my post being where does the Dynamic range setting get its figures from ?

You seem to forget I have the Premium with more range ( 650 NEDC ) -

How accurate is the Dynamic range setting ??
Okay it has to be better than the NEDC I hear you say but tbh mine is not much better !!
What is the criteria for the Dynamic range setting ??, is it updated instantly or every 10, 50, 100 km’s ?
So, in the past I have mentally calculated the range setting v the actual mileage driven on a 210 km highway drive that I frequently undertake and under normal driving conditions ( my driving) 210 km will take 260 km off my range ( that range figure became 189 km when hit a huge stretch of stop and go ) , speed being the major factor.
Yesterday, I decided to do a longer test( mainly highways with a small amount of city traffic).
Starting at 100% battery and a “ range “ of 653 km i embarked upon a trip there and back and got back home with 8% battery and 47 km range left.
Equating to 0-100% battery of 530 km actual driving re a 653 km guessometer reading ( around 82% accuracy ).
Nothing unusual about that you say but when charging back home overnight to 100% it gives me 644 km range on the Dynamic range guessometer !!
Why not 530 km ??
My conclusion is that the Dynamic range isn’t giving me the range to continue driving as per my recent trip but giving me the range possible albeit slightly adjusted ( never got below 650 km before ) but even that is confusing as the last 50 km back home were at a lesser speed when I saw the % getting low.
So, what is the criteria of giving me a lower than normal 100 % range this morning ??
So in conclusion ( again ) the Dynamic range setting is not much better than the NEDC only they give random numbers to make you think it is helpful ??
I will add that this is lower than my previous 580-590 km range claim but possibly due to 4 adults + 1 kid v 2 Adults and sometimes 2 anorexic teenagers, 40° temps in Nakhon Sawan meaning higher air con settings and me showing off my acceleration/overtaking prowess at the start until berated by Mrs D !

Rory Gallagher was very underrated in my opinion, a far better guitarist than most and also the Icicle Works, a great 80s band from Liverpool.
+ 1 for Rory, a real workhorse who wanted nothing more than to play his music to an appreciative audience.- 2

BYD Seal AWD: Another trip to BKK, total distance run: 425 km; remaining battery: 7% or 35 km - so realistically, the max range is 450 km max. (my wife would probably do +5%)
Parameters: 95% of time 2 people, about 25 km with 3 on board. Temperature: outside of BKK and suburbs, around 34C, in the city 37C (per BYD gauge) speed outside city: max 120 km/h, most of the time around 110 to 115; driving mode setting: normal
Conclusion: the range is OK, but I would not want to have any less; the non AWD model is the more sensible selection....... but could I really live without the ooommp on occasion? 😁
On a totally different subject: Am I the only one who finds the 'two blink' one touch turn signal very odd, if not to say nonsense? I have had this feature on every car going back over 20 years, all car had 3 blink one touch turn signals.......... what's up with BYD? Are all BYD models like this?
It is one of the reasons I chose Premium, I have a regular around trip of 420 km, if i stay o/night and have a bit of running around it can run to 450/480 km. But that still gets me back home with around 15 - 20 % , which is ideal for the battery conditioning charge o/night.Doing this run tomorrow with 4 adults there and back.
The RWD 313 horses and 330 nm torque is more than enough for me .

You know that this is the divide character, right?
/ Like 5/10= 0.5?
Actually that is forward slash and represents 5 out of 10 and not divide at all.Apple accept that the divide by or division symbol is absent and used the foreward slash symbol as their text replacement example in Apple Support Community.

( where is the divided symbol on an iPhone ? ).
Well, to answer my own question, there isn’t one !!So I used “ text replacement “ to create a shortcut, copy the symbol and choose any letter or word combination to enable it.
I chose ++ to give me the ÷ option:Apologies for the slight deviation, back to Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Besides that there are probably a lot of options in and around Pattaya city.
My monthly mileage is 1.500km with 90% short rides (<60km).
So considering all of that my profile would be more or less ideal for an EV.
Which EV does give you a range of 580km? BYD Seal?
BYD Seal Performance ( AWD ) is rated at 580 km but I doubt anyone gets above 500 km.I have the BYD Seal Premium which is rated at 650 km, realistically I get around 580 km but I do drive conservatively.
My efficiency is currently:
13.6 kWh/100 km
Battery 80 kw divided by 13.6 = 5.88 x 100 = 588 km range.
( where is the divided symbol on an iPhone ? ).
Seal Premium is you want range, Seal Performance if you want performance..

I just moved to a new house (rental) and can’t / don’t want to install a wallbox.
However there is a gas station with chargers just around the corner. That’s why I’m wondering if some people here rely on public chargers only?
I use home charging but could quite easily rely solely on public charging if necessary, there are chargers at 3 malls ( Big C , Central and City Park ) which I could combine with a weekly grocery shopping trip/long lunch/cinema or just browsing. Central has 8 or 10 chargers all rarely used.Of course it depends on your car usage, battery size and charging speed/location of local chargers but I am sure a weekly visit to one of the above locations would work for me to fulfill my local needs.

How did you get a TOU Tarif of 2.6 baht
Mine is 3.5 baht + ft
Mine is 3.2 baht including VAT + FTBasic tariff 2.83 baht ( i thought it was 2.6 baht ).
Could be that my TOU is a 2nd circuit meter with PEA ( EV only designated ).

In TH, our MG ZS EV, with no import duty, and govt incentive, sells for about the same price, as sold in China. That's pretty amazing and makes it quite the value. As are the BYD offerings, compared to other countries.
People talk about a Chinese EV price war coming, and I don't see that happening outside of CH or TH, as they simply don't need to discount their cars to compete. Even as the cost of the batteries are expected to come down as much as 50%.
Yes, i prefer to think of it this way, my Seal would have cost me a further 49.18% if bought in the U.K. and no doubt the cheapest electricity plan there couldn’t compete with my TOU meter ( 2.6 baht per unit ) here.- 2

Toyota continues its love/hate relationship with EV’s by stepping up the schedule to produce a Hilux EV , possibly spurred on by pickup rival Isuzu preparing to reveal their EV pickup later this month..

Many commercial and public council charging stations in UK have announced recently massive increases in charging prices ,so charging average EV will cost £50 also fines for staying longer than 3 hours , many vehicles wont have a sufficient charge in that time ,, people are furious ,,, ha ha just another cash cow,
also government raising road taxes on EVs and The awaited really cheap Chinese models are likely to have huge import duties added .. making them expensive
The U.K. is a different case altogether, identical EV’s £45,500 in the U.K., £30,500 here in Thailand- 2

A question from newbie. I live in rented house and considering an EV. Thinking BYD seal, but the choice is not final. Obviously house owner will not let me to make any alterations with house wiring either install any charger. But there is a usual electric plug conveniently located near parking place. So my questions are: will I be able to charge EV from that socket? I do not care about charging time, can be even several days, as Im using car rarely. If so, will I need to buy some socket adaptor, or usually it coming with car?
You can charge an EV with a standard socket ( no adaptor required ), most EV’s supply a charger ( known as a granny or emergency charger ) .If there is no earth wire to your socket then it is likely that the dealer supplied granny charger will not work, but you can buy a charger from Lazada ( I did this to charge at my mother in law’s house ).
I charged at home with my granny charger for around a month ( until wall charger installation ) and found it sufficient and very easy.

What do you understand under "free Stuff"?
I think what he means is the wall charger and installation plus 1 year first class insurance and free servicing.
When the Dolphin was released it didn’t have the free service plan or a wall charger ( could buy for 25k with installation ) and then it all came back for free at a later date, plus I think they increased the insurance to 2 years ( not 100% sure that was the Dolphin ).

Yep !, I took a weekend break in Hua Hin and drove 110-120 kph when I could but my route, from Ayutthaya, takes me via Bangkok so at times a lot of stop/start traffic. My cumulative AEC went up to 13.5 kWh/100 km 😊
I drive fast when I can but a lot of short trips in the city, I don’t tear away from the lights and ignore those pickups that seem to want to race !!
Seems like i get taunted more now in a sportier car, didn’t notice so much in my Honda Jazz !
