  1. Hi

I hope some of you 'seasoned' guys can help me.

I am in Bangkok and have an Immigration O  visa on family (daughter 9 ) which finishes on Feb. 9 2018. I have had a renewal of this visa since Feb 2013, and been in Thailand legally since Dec. 2012, but I broke continuity between May - August 2015  when I had family business outside the country.

Because my long time x will no longer support me with my family visa and is limiting my time with my child as a new partner is now living with me (Jealousy). I now will have to take the matter to court regarding my child, however meantime, I need to renew my visa in Feb. Retirement being the alternative.

To this end I asked my bank (Nationwide Uk) to tranfer the 80K necessary on the 1st Dec. However they have Fffffed up and despite many protestations and letters the morons could not manage to get their act together. It is now the bank holiday weekend and the 11th Dec.

I was trying to have the money seasoned for 3 months but am now in a bind. I am now arranging to send directly by Bangkok Bank but the registration process etc takes time. I expect I should get the money by the end of the week. I have read that the seasoning period is 60 days or 90 days depending on whether it is the first application.

My question therefore is, as this is my first application for a Retirement Visa, it the seasoning period 60 days or is this considered as a continuing Visa application with a requirement of 90 days?

If the latter, what can I do? I have evedince in the form of a confirmation from the bank that they will send the funds dated 1st Dec and my subsequent complaint letters along with a statement showing the funds available in the account for transfer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    PS

If anyone has had experience with a difficult x and dealing with Lawyers and the Thai court system etc. Please post or PM me your experience.

I have recently transferred about GBP 60k using this method and works well and easily and is by far the cheapest method as I had previously used HiFX and other FX companies.

One word of advice though - my bank/building society in the UK, Nationwide, has a GBP 10k daily limit on such transfers so you need to do several transfers to switch all your money you need for the condo. But once I had set up the payee i.e. myself at BBK Branch London with my Thai BKK bank details, then all subsequent transfers took seconds with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Highly recommend you use this method.

Were you only allowed to transfer £10000 at a time by Nationwide? If so did you incurr a £20 fee for each transfer or did Bangkom Bank lump them together and send for a single fee? The Bangkok Bank dtaff say I wll be charged for each amount sent?

That is wrong, if you have a Bangkok bank account already in Thailand you do not need any of the stuff you mention.

All the details are provided on the Bangkok Bank website on how to do this transfer to Thailand through BBK Bank London

I would go and look for you but sure just as easy for you to do

I seen the BB site but dont see where there are deails. It tells the fees and gives tbe no. for sterling and Baht etc but not how to fill in the details.

I also read here that registering with BB London speeds things up? True or not?

There is one 20 GBP fee charged by Bangkok Bank London and a Maximum fee of 500baht charged by Bangkok Bank in Bangkok.

There is no fee to transfer the money within the UK from your UK bank Account to Bangkok bank London

I had asked them before about this and they said they had no holding account inLondon and that the 10000 would be forwarded straight away and a £20 fee would be levied. Has their policy changed? This service used to be free on the UK side. I understand also that HSBC no longer charge a fee. Worth looking into.

Why did you stop using Nationwide? They have a similar fee? I ask this because I am with Nationwide and I asked them 1 week ago to transfer £20000 and it still has not left my bank account in London. I have consequently missed the 3 month deadline for 80K in my Bangkok Bank account. They have not offered any explanation, just the SWIFT team will contact you in 3-5 working days. I had this trouble before witb them, I'll neve use them again. Nationwide sucks at transfers and customer relations.

Did you have to pay the onternational tranfer fee £20 twice or once. As you said you yransferred £10000 a few times. I will do tbis today.

    • You can get Single Entry visas based on marriage or being a parent, without any financials, from Vientiane or Savannakhet.
    • You can only get a Multiple Entry visa from Savannakhet based on marriage. No financials needed.

At the end of any 90 day entry from a single or multiple entry visa you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage or being a parent. You need to show 40K pm income (certified by your embassy) or 400K in the bank. If applying as a parent the 400K only needs to be in your account on the day you apply.

Not true. It needs to have been in the account for 2 months prior to application. It needs the support of the mother and child or children.

Quite a lot of paperwork needed. Look on the Immigration website for details.

  8. 7 units per month with two adults and only 1 working. I myself am at home mostly 24/7. The thing with meters is that in they have to be changed every 10 years and recertified for accuracy before being refitted ( In Europe). I would ask for a change of meter especially if it is old. The other thing you can do is have your own meter fitted within your condo and check the official meter against it.

  9. Give up your card and use your book. Write a letter before handing in your card that you will hold the Bank responsible for any withdrawals without a signature. Use another bank for a card if you need. Tranfer money to Thailand using an FX firm, much better rates. If you meed money to buy a Condo the corrupt government insist on their cut so you have to use a Bank.

  10. That last post was all gobbledegook to me. All I know is ive lost a sh#t load of money but know that the pound will re emerge like the Phoenix from the ashes. The British economy is doing better than any European country bar Germany. However when the Germans realise that they will eventually be the paymasters for those countries that the Troika have devestated then the EU will be buried as it is already extremely sick.

Meantime if the cow May gets her act together and resigns, we may get someone in government that can take us positively through the Briex process. After which we should see a strong pound again. All these falls are just the Bankers who are upset that there is a spanner in the works now for their NWO putting pressure on the pound. Of course all investors follw the wolf in sheeps clothing to the slaughter house. . Smoke and mirrors lad, just smoke and mirrors.

  11. I just renewed today at Big C Ratburana. Was told by the officer there to go to CW next time; However I rang the CS CW line on Friday and was told that Ratburana and Ladpro were both open and taking 90 day reports for Imm. O Visas.

I checked at CS  that that was correct information and whether there was a plan to close this essential service, they asked other senior staff and said there were no plans to close the service.

I think there are a few officers telling fibs. Maybe they dont want to see Farang hanging around a bunch of labourers from Cambodia or Lao. Whatever the reason, until there is a written confirmation I intend to use Ratburana. BTW dont go early to Ratburana, not worth it, very crowded wait about an hour. Still better than CW. CW is a 1 hour taxi ride from my home in Bukkalo at a cost of 500B each way. Not cheap. Local taxi to Ratburana 80B. Can even go by bus 8B.

Unless there are no more glitches with the online system and a clear  method of logging on to the site, preferably with Chrome or Firefox, then the option of reporting locally should not be removed.

I will ring CW CS again today and ask why the officers are under the misapprehension that we should report only at CW.

  12. I have been to big C in Ratburna also. They ask for an extra form to be filled out that is not necessary or asked for in Changwattana. No consistency within the same department. Cut off the head I say.

Why would they close Lad Prao when the online sysystem is still not operational and in chaos? I spent over 5000B on a new printer 2 years ago in order to utalise the online system. It is sitting in the corner gathering dust and using ink each day to keep the jets from blocking. When will this third world immigration buraeu get it's act together?

An old but true saying; Don't throw the old water until the new water comes in!

  13. Thank you Ubonjoe

I have just looked at Big C in Rat Burana which is approx, 7Km from me which is close enough and easy to get to without going in to town and the traffic. I can also do that amount of Km on my bike as the road is not so congested and dangerous. I will make my trip there in June when my first 90 day report following my new 1 year visa is due.

Thank you so much for your help. However it does not mitigate the outlay I have made for my printer nor answer the valid question! What is happening to the online 90 day report? Also for long term residents such as myself whom have bought property to live in here and have a permanent address. What is the point in a 90 day report? If you change your address or leave the country for more than 3 months then I would understand the need but that could easily be done by phone message nowadays. Thai Immigration has much to catch up with in the world in so far as technology and convenience is concerned. I still laugh when the girls at the supermarket still insist on picking up each item to scan the barcode despite having 20 items the same and the barcode the same. Also the fact that you cannot get cash back at the till as you can in most countries for over 20 years now!!!

The site has been down most of the time since December.

Have you thought of mailing in your reports,

There is also three other locations in Bangkok you can do your reports other than CW.

    Thank you Ubonjoe

That is interesting! The Ladprao might be the nearest to me as I am in Talat Phlu. I did hear of an office in or near to Saphan Taksin but am not aware if they can do 90 day reporting? It would be great if they did as it might assuage some of the grief felt as a result of the online system not being operational.
