I'm here... Sorry for not responding... i did the Visa run yesterday and today was busy, so didn't have time to comment yet.

I didn't do the 60 extension which UB.Joe made me aware of, since my better half and kid are visiting family quite far away from where i am, and im not usually residing in Pattaya, but here to relax a bit.

As for taking the van, im quite tall, and  just don't feel like it. The only good thing i can think of, is meeting other people on the van. but that's about it.

As for the drive. it took 3.5 hour from central Pattaya  until i arrived at the parking. the trip to Cambodia was peaceful and i only had a 5 min break.  Im actually not really sure which one of the border checks i went to, but it had a big parking (several hundreds cars) on the right before the border buildings. parking was 80 baht.

I used the fixers and everything took about 20 minute i think. They where friendly and i sat chatting with a couple policemen (or something like that) and everything was quite uneventful. No queue going from Thailand, no Queue going back. First time i ever used fixers. would do on this border entry again another time.

The trip back home was different though. a bit more traffic and a lot of drivers had turned on their ego  mode. I had a couple of dangerous situation, i.e. people overtaking on the invisible third lane, which seems to exist, especially in areas with mountains and  limited visibility combined with rain. Also had i street dog running running out on the middle of the road and stopping and turning around, just in front of my car. i hit the brake very hard and was about 30cm or so from hitting him.

I left pattaya 11am, was back 7.15pm and had the easiest, cheapest and properly best visa run i ever did (not that i did that many though)

About the 60 days extension.. its an option i need to consider next time, but to be honest, i remember one time i made an extension and it was an nightmare. That was in pattaya, and everything was so confusing and chaotic, so many people, so much confusion, where to go next, which papers etc.,. Even though it only took me 3 hours or so, i think i almost prefer to spend an additional 5 hours and repeat this next time, get an additional 30 days.

Thanks A LOT for all of your input. much appreciated and made me feel much more relaxed going there.

    Cheers

Good choice mate ! And I confirm that it's ALWAYS better to do it this way than having to talk to any Thai in uniform ! Trust me !

Reading his latest, final(?) column, I read a lot of frustration and disappointment between the lines, so I guess, 'that's it', except, perhaps, if the 'yellow fever' took hold of him, and he came back to Thailand.

He is a teacher, form a the beginning a loser who failed his life by going back where is he born like a good doggy.

This guy is ridiculous, not even able to also work on social networks and facebook, he is born loser and will die loser.

One of the advantages of not taking the van, is you don't have to leave this early.  The border is open all day.

If it were a VIP van with captain's chair instead of bench-seats, perhaps.  Or if you get the front seat to yourself (they usually put someone else in the middle).  Generally, not good sleeping conditions, in my experience.  Yes, the locals sleep, sometimes falling over you while doing so - but not something I have been able to accomplish.

The most important is when you wake up with a truck wheels on your laps....

My Vietnamese lady wouldn't eat Panga if you paid her, Panga is a bony fish we only buy to feed the dog's .  We live on the Mekong which has plenty of other great tasting fish.  But I see the video is actually talking about Basa - which is a much tastier fish in Vietnam Mekong Region.

hahaha... and she is eating fish from the Mekong ! You married a Nobel price !

You should consider leaving more early -- perhaps about 6:00 or 6:30 in the morning if you are driving yourself.

However, I cannot really think of many advantages to driving yourself vs. jumping on one of the Visa Run Vans. 2,800 baht and they will deal with everything including the driving while you get to nap or meet some new people on the van.  If something goes wrong or any issues at the border these folks have connections there and can make for a smooth resolution. They stop for breaks along the way and most provide lunch. You should be back in Pattaya by around 3:00 PM same day.

It has been many years since I have used one of these services but the only thing I didn't like was you are not in control of the driver / driving.

If you do not see the advantages of not taking a van, sorry... but it is hopeless...

Farmed Salmon — One of the Most Toxic Foods in the World?

The film starts off in Norway, looking at the chemicals used in fish farms. Kurt Oddekalv is a respected Norwegian environmental activist, and he believes salmon farming is a disaster both for the environment and for human health.

Below the salmon farms dotted across the Norwegian fjords, there’s a layer of waste some 15 meters high, teeming with bacteria, drugs, and pesticides. In short, the entire sea floor has been destroyed, and since the farms are located in open water, the pollution from these farms is in no way contained.

A salmon farm can hold upwards of 2 million salmon in a relatively small amount of space. These crowded conditions result in disease, which spreads rapidly among the stressed salmon.

According to Oddekalv, sea lice, Pancreas Disease(PD)2 and Infectious Salmon Anemia Virus (ISA) have spread all across Norway, yet consumers are not informed of these fish pandemics, and sale of these diseased fish continue unabated.

A number of dangerous pesticides are used in an effort to stave off disease-causing pests, one of which is known to have neurotoxic effects. Fish has always been considered a health food, but according to Oddekalv, today’s farmed salmon is one of the most toxicfoods in the world!

Toxicology researcher Jerome Ruzzin has confirmed Oddekalv’s claims. He’s tested a number of different food groups sold in Norway for toxins, and indeed, farmed salmon contains the greatest amount of toxins of them all, and by an incredibly large margin.

Overall, farmed salmon is five times more toxic than any other food product tested. In animal feeding studies, mice fed farmed salmon grew obese, with thick layers of fat around their internal organs. They also developed diabetes.

Ruzzin notes that a theory gaining traction is that rising rates of obesity is related to the increasing number of toxins and pollutants we’re exposed to through our environment and food. In light of his own studies, Ruzzin has stopped eating farmed salmon.

Well you're free to laugh about anything. Keep in mind though that in Europe they have high food safety-rules and they don't fear to use them...just read about the chickenegg scandal which is going on right now.

Norwegian salmon is what all Europeans eat, and it is tested regularly and safe. Same goes for panga sold in Europe by the way or it won't be sold.

    Thank you ! hahahahaahahahhahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha

Mate, Norway is a highly trustworthy country...if they claim their fish to be safe i trust them.

And yes, i eat a lot of norwegian salmon, not the wild one.

Pregnant women are a special case..

I guess everything i eat some has kind of poison in it, that's why i eat different food every day. Fish/meat/shrimps/chicken and so on.

My thai neighbours son from 16 had to loose weight so his mum fed him a lot of chicken. Now he's still fat but he has big boobs as well! Not soggy hanging boobs but real ones.

Are you also scared of chemtrails??

Sorry but I can only laugh if you trust the propaganda about Norway...

People working in salmon farm said to journalists that they would never eat their salmon....

But yes, if you trust, keep doing, one more cancer is nothing for world...

Had the front of my Merc done two Months ago. Has a five year warranty on the 3M film but the business has closed already

So try to find an established installer. That way when you need to go back for the inevitable adjustments/re-application they may still be in business. The product itself is worth having. It will prevent stone chips and is pretty much invisible. I've always installed it on motorbike fuel tanks (easy enough to do at home ) and the front of previous cars.

And like everything  it takes a lot of guys to install it here too... :saai:

Why not coating the car ?  I didn't even know that plastic exist. Seems weird.

Sure i know so, would you prefer to eat salmon with skin disease ??

In ALL large fishfarms (but also chickens or pigs) they use medicines to keep the stock healthy..The animals are too close to eachother.

I do trust the Norwegian authorities though, if they claim their fish to be good for consumption i 'll eat it. If the Thai claim the same i have my doubts but still eat it anyway, only not that often.

I bought fresh fish in Tops one day, kioshin maru (or so) it's seafish from a japanese vessel...but my wife didn't eat all her fish and at the end of our meal a thin worm came out of her leftover. That's what you get with real seafish.

Also i wonder how healthy the thai shrimps from the farms are..seashrimps cost a lot more.

I think you do not clearly understand that all salmon are poisoned with pesticide !

And if you trust any government you have to learn more...

Norway gvt accepted that pregnant women should not eat salmon, but the truth is that nobody should eat it !

    and it's a worldwide problem
