There must be a reason why they are ALL avoiding Jomtien? Maybe Foodmart is to supermarkets what baht buses are to proper taxis.

Could it be that those thousands of empty condo's the built and still are building, don't add to the expected customer base?

I believe that foodland bought that land many years ago, when all those condo projects were started, with the assumption that all those condo's would be sold and occupied by now.

FWIW, the B599/B899 package also includes "100+ TV channel with sharp picture," including (an unspecified...) "10 extreme HD channel through fiber optic."

Since the website is Thai only, and all I can notice is AIS karaoke and tiga kids and gmm, can we assume that are 100+ Thai channels then?

The only English language channels I can find on the website are the limited selection quoted by JaiMaai.

Of by the way, on Kodi it includes as well 1000+ channels in a western language

    From the thread

As previously mentioned 1080p 8bit colorspace output issues. Dark video output is the result. MINIX supposedly has a permanent fix with upcoming Firmware.

This is an issue with every S912 device so far, and one of several reasons why I avoid them like the pest, and so far not a single manufacturer has been able to fix it so I doubt Minix will.

    Another issue mentioned.

No Amcodec video acceleration shows up when using SPMC (Jarvis) - this would solve all PVR client deinterlacing issues.

I think Minix wanted to play Smart Aleck here and left that setting out on purpose since enabling the Amcodec, as should be, cause flashing screen colours and kicking out of Kodi.

So it is clear that even the Minix U9-H has to be avoided for the reason it has a S912 processor.

Thanks. But I'm a complete novice when it comes to android boxes, and I've read over and over that Kodi can be challenging to set up.

Yes, if this is new to you and you consider yourself a noob  regarding IT, then it indeed can be challenging.

Feel free to send me a PM if you need help.

I think that what Jeffrey's trying to say is that it is useful to have a HDD attached already containing media files (movies, photos, music etc.) so you can watch something when the internet is offline or not available.

I do exactly the same thing with an external USB drive, but mine is loaded with 1020p movies with DTS sound... a bit better quality than most streaming feeds.

I understand that Encid, but for that Sata has no advantage over USB2, because the transfer speed USB2 can deliver even at it's lowest possible is plenty to stream those files.

And that is also the point I made in the post Jeffrey picked on.

The other disadvantages of the limited selection of boxes with HDD tray, I already pointed out in an other post.

Yes thanks but  maybe you have a  source for easily streamable  Dave and Quest

ie  not  super HD  1080P  high bandwidth stream.....    360P works ok for me

the streams available for Dave and Quest since Filmon lost them just buffers too much for me.

In the playlist with the 2000 channels both Dave and Quest are available in HD, you will understand that the playlist is only available as a whole, not just 2 channels.

But as I said they are also available from several free addons in Kodi, you only need to play around a bit.

That's correct some may find the additional cost unnecessary, while others embrace technology.

I do believe I pointed out some pros and cons that should be considered when buying a new box.

I understand where you're going, but I'm still not convinced of the usefulness of a internal or even external HDD.

As you will know a set top box is connected to the network, otherwise it would not be able to stream online, and that also mean that it can stream everything that is stored on other devices connected to the network.

As there are PC's and NAS servers, which have a lot of HDD's inside.

  8. 13 minutes ago, Jeffrey346 said:

To say a "HDD  connected internal or external to a Android  box has the only purpose of transferring a media file from the HDD to the media player installed on the box, or save the media file downloaded from one of the Kodi addons on the box, and in that case there is nothing that the USB2 can not handle,"  seems a bit short sighted.

May be you want to tell us then what the other purpose is,but wait, I think you told us already.

In these days of online streaming having a large built-in storage is seen as a cost issue that is not necessarily needed.

I'm not going to get in an argument over read speeds and you're right but usb falls off badly over time as the controller finds something else to do, just watch a usb to usb transfer using usb 3 fall off. I love usb 3 by the way but it for continuous running it doesn't match sata which reminds me I have an unused SSD I brought from the UK the last time I was back. I'm not upto date on actual figures but my own experience is that usb is way slower.

We have TOT fibre to the house and it was brilliant when it was first installed but now the full speed only seems to work  internally to Thailand, I read that one submarine cable was destroyed so I don't know if this makes a difference. We have a new cable receiving station at one end of the beach so hopefully we will get great international speeds again ....

Please don't misunderstand my comment, I didn't try to argue, as I'm well aware that USB degrades over time.

What I tried to point out is that a HDD connected internal or external to a Android  box has the only purpose of transferring a media file from the HDD to the media player installed on the box, or save the media file downloaded from one of the Kodi addons on the box, and in that case there is nothing that the USB2 can not handle.

It is of course a totally different matter if you're talking about transferring files from your PC to the HDD or vice versa, or downloading torrents on the PC with a super fast internet connection, then nothing goes above SATA III and SSD

  10. 4 minutes ago, sandrabbit said:

only speed of read and write to the hard drive as all boxes I have are usb 2, all made in Thailand but I have one expensive one with a built in sata interface ( it was about 4000 baht).

USB2 supports 480 Mbps transfer speed, lets say in real life it's only half of that, so 240 Mbps.

The purpose of the HDD is to either transfer a movie file to the media player, and there is no format even 4K that requires such a speed, or to save a downloaded movie file.

I still have to see the first internet connection in Thailand that is able to deliver a download speed from international server of 240 Mbps.

The update to 5 is expected March/April according to the minix forum. Side loading required

Is that a post from the forum admin anno October 2016 you are referring to? As it seems that project has reached a dead end.

I hope though that someone comes up with a custom rom.

  12. OP, everything you are looking for is available for FREE on Kodi.

Live sports, UK Live tv, Sports replays of every major sports discipline and catch up tv. But on top of that also every movie, tv show, documentary or music album you can think about is just 1 click away. And it's all free.

If you are looking for paid IPTV,  +2000 channels including all UK - US and every other European country can be had for 180 Euro/per year.

Depends what you want from the place and yes, everything was better years ago when you were younger. If I didn't already live in SE Asia I'm not sure I'd fly across the world to visit Pattaya - Southern Spain or a Greek Island would do nicely. I live in Phnom Penh and like visiting Pattaya because its basically Benidorm in Asia - its a home from home - and paradise compared to this godforesaken country.

    You don't say.

I always see posts on this forum that Cambodia is soooo much better.

Already fw004 is being worked on and they really do work hard with the users over on the Minx forum.

So already firmware 004 less than a month after release, and threads about issues with the U9-H getting removed from the Minix forum ( but they are still in the Google cache ) ,  and you still want to claim " I think even on the Kodi forums views seemed to have softened on the, S912 will never work with Kodi, point of view. " ?
