In Thailand: Are You a Walking Billboard?
London Lowf replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes, it's technically advertising but does anyone take a blind bit of notice? During the daytime I wear dirt-cheap football shirts from the local market, just like Somchai wears. They're covered in branding (including Durex and Pornhub on a couple) but they're nice and bright to match my flambouyant personality, easy to wash, last for ever, and I think they're funny. However, none of my evening shirts or shorts are branded. -
Retirement visa in country
London Lowf replied to radjag's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Someone will come along with a better answer but, in the meantime, I believe that it is actually easier to get the non-O visa from within Thailand and then apply for the retiremernt extension . Do you still have the required B800,000 in a Thai bank account? -
Thai Airways takes off in new direction with operational shake-up
London Lowf replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm the same - misguided loyalty to Thai for seven years but now I fly Emirates (three trips this year) for exactly the same reasons as you. I fly Heathrow-Phuket so I've got to stop somewhere - I would only reconsider Thai if they resumed direct LHR-HKT flights like they did during the Covid "Sandbox" - that was a very comfortable flight >>>>>> -
I'm back at the beginning of October up until Xmas. I'm sure you understand that sarcasm is a staple ingredient of British humour - I see elsewhere that you have the passport but I thought that you were a Kiwi? Anyway, no harm meant and maybe my comment raised a wry smirk or two - it did get one laugh!

Haha - not much chance of that!

How to meet genius girls in Thailand
London Lowf replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
To clarify - an intellectual can train to becomer a doctor, lawyer, tax accountant etc., but to be a theoretical scientist you would need intelligence. Intellegence is the capacity for reasoning and logical thought, intellect is an ability to study and learn, but the two are not mutually exclusive. -
How to meet genius girls in Thailand
London Lowf replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
OP - I believe that you are looking for an intellectual (like yourself) girl rather than an intelligent genius - huge difference. -
What do you love most about Katy Perry? Everything?
London Lowf replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Clearly that is the case, as evidenced by your recent "How to meet genius girls in Thailand" thread. -
Last visit I bought a new ADV from an official Honda dealer on Phuket - I was on a TR60 visa and have a one-year apartment contract but needed a Residence Certificate - no big deal. It's still on a red plate as there is a +/- four month delay for registration. Not sure about the inter-province issue.

Best option to stay less than 3 months
London Lowf replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
But bear in mind that the date of issue is Day #1, not Day #0, but no need to cut it that fine as per DrJack54. Likewise, date of arrival is also Day #1 - I got caught out by this recently and inadvertantly over-stayed by one day. -
Best option to stay less than 3 months
London Lowf replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Assuming that rules for USA are the same as the UK, the SETV is valid for entry to Thailand for 90 days (not 3 months) from date of issue. -
Yes indeed - another reason to abandon my previos loyalty to Thai Airways - all tatty cramped Boeings these days on the LHR-BKK flight that vibrate and sound like they're falling to pieces, especially on take-off.

Non o multi London, wrong name.
London Lowf replied to kelboy's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
On the contrary, I've found that the IOs at BKK scrutinise my visas very closely. I wouldn't chance it! -
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Seatguru has not been updated since before Covid? Anyway, last June I flew economy LHR-DXB in a 380 and then DXB-BKK in a 777, with the reverse on the return two mnths later - the 380 was far more roomy and comfortable.

Exactly the same problem last year with a TV30 - one letter wrong - and same response from London embassy - nothing that they could/would do. I started all over again. (The previous year I applied and paid for a METV - they replied saying that they are currently only issuing SETV and that's what they sent me. They didn't refund the +/-£100 difference. It's all part of the Thailand experience!) -
Always a pleasure to watch Parkinson, even when I had no interest whatsoever in the interviewee. I particularly enjoyed his lengthy and insightful conversation with George Michael - I'd always enjoyed his music and videos but gained a new respect for the guy after that.

Single Entry Tourist Visa problem
London Lowf replied to rockyysdt's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My last trip was exactly sixty days and I got a visa - far easier to sit on my computer at home for a while than to lose half a day of my holiday travelling to immigration, queueing, maybe not having all of the correct documents, the IO may be having a bad day, etc. -
Single Entry Tourist Visa problem
London Lowf replied to rockyysdt's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Getting an extension is a PITA, especially if you are touring - far easier to get a TV60. OP - apply with that booking, I think that you will be okay. If not there's little lost and the above can be plan B. -
I returned to the UK a couple of weeks ago, but when I am on Phuket I do often pick up discarded rubbish on Layan that the local picnicers have left. However, the amount of waste plastic blown onto the beaches and carried on the tides is a mountain too high to climb for me. During the high seasons the beach traders and local authorities do a pretty good job, but at this time of year not so much.

The musician in my local UK pub always performs either Lola or Sunny Afternnon in his weekly gig, and both bring a smile to my face. The first record I ever bought was You Really Got Me - in Woolworths if I remember correctly. A catchy song but not particularly deep, but I never reallly listened to lyrics when I was young. Now I do appreciate the gentle wit of those two - Layla is particularly relevant to anyone who spends time in Thailand's RLDs, and Sunny Afternoon is poignant for the many expats on here who have escaped a failed marriage and the oppresive tax system back home.

That's three of my favourite beaches - what with the plastic that gets blown/washed up at this time of year that will be a very sad sight. I hope that they can clean it up soon - not only for me, but also the unfortunate wildlife.
