  1. Protesting farmers leave Nakhon Ratchasima on foot to Bangkok

Nakhon Ratchasima: -- Over 200 farmers left this northeastern province on foot heading to Bangkok to highlight their demand for the government to tackle their debt.

The farmers led by Prapas Khoksungnoen, president of the Northeastern People Network, gathered in front of the Suranee Statue, at 10 am and began the journey at 11 am.

Prapas said the farmers planned to walk to Government House and camp there to pressure the government to draft a contract tht the administration would absolve the farmers' debt.

Prapas accused the Surayud administration of ignoring the plight of farmers while focusing on political issues.

Hmm. This one could warm up the on-off couter coup.. Are they a trojen horse for Thaksin's mob? Is is the Caravan of the Poor under a new guise? Be interesting to see if they are joined along the way and what happens to them outside Government House. I somewhat doubt that they will be offered tea and buscuits... :o

  2. Realty may drop 20% in 2007 if blasts set by insurgents

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's property sector business this year may retreat as much as 10 to 20 per cent if last Sunday's bomb blasts here were caused by southern terrorists, according to a senior property business executive.

Thai Appraisal Foundation president Sopon Pornchokchai said the blasts on New Year's Eve may impact the property business sector in 2007 more severely than an earlier projection that it would either remain steady or decline not more than 5 per cent.

An estimated of 60,000 new units are projected to be constructed in 2007 with the total value of approximately Bt160 billion.

The extent of the negative projection depends on whether the southern insurgency is actually spreading to the Thai capital, and not on political conflicts which could be settled in the nearer future, Mr. Sopon said.

According to Mr. Sopon, the property business segments most likely to be hardest hit are office buildings and shopping centres, as foreign investors may delay their buying. Hotels and resort construction will also be hit as the number of tourists dwindles.

Prime Minister Gen. Surayud Chulanont and military leaders of the Council for National Security (CNS), which launched the coup last September 19 against the elected government, said earlier that the southern insurgents were not behind the incidents.

What planet are these people on!? :D

Foreign investors delaying their buying? :o They are being prevented by new rules on company formation/nominees, witholding taxes and visa regulations (buy it but don't come here).. :D

  3. Not sure if the results contain many shocks, other than Macclesfield scoring, liverpool going down at home and Newcastle going to a replay.

I feel sorry for Spurs going all the way to Cardiff's Ninian Park and not the Millenium stadium......hey guys the Final is at Wembley ( London ) :D

Ta Ra Tottenham, we'll sink you in the Taf :o

I predict 3-1 Spurs. Undefeated in Europe so far, Welsh Rarebit for supper..... :D

    Watch this space...yakky da.... :D

And looks like we have history on our side:

  4. Is the Cardiff game on telly tonight?

    Not tonight....sunday on star..4 o'clock there-10 o'clock here

And by the way, you have no chance in hel_l...

    There isn't a '1' in the year :D

Wrong on both counts - the game is at 11pm our time and.....

Using the Cormyr Reckoning calendar from the Calendars in the Forgotten Realms, the year is actually 1351, which actually has two "1's" in it! :o

Perhaps we are on for the double!!! :D

    Check for yourself:

  5. I never go into locked rooms. Sniff.

What if the door is locked after you enter the room ?

That sounds like a question for John Malkovich or Grace Slick's Alice to answer. I guess I would die in the room, too. Maybe pen a memoir and then stick myself in the heart with the Bic.

What, so this could turn into a suicide thread? :o:D:D

  6. Best:

The builder, come handyman that actually fixed all the broken tiles in the bar I used to own in the correct coloured cement about 5 minutes after asking my manager to attend to it (she spotted him passing by). It was even done whilst I was in the toilet so he had gone before I could get his number (cursed that on many occasions since). I was even still talking about how much it would cost when I came out of the loo, when manageress said " but its finished and it cost 200 Baht!!! :o

    Worst:

My condo block maintenance, took them 2 years, 7 months to enable my shower to function with hot water. over 10 attempts by about 8 different staff, with more replacement parts than you could have manufactured several complete units!! :D

  7. LOok at the ironic Factor here
    bkkandrew Posted Today, 2007-01-07 03:33:11

It does seem uncanny that, whereas suicide jumpings are somewhat of a rarity in most countries, in Thailand they are a daily occurrance... ermm.gif

Also, if one was to top oneself, would you really want to do it "entirely naked"?? blink.gif

  8. He was drinking in my bar a few evenings ago but get this, after the 8pm happy hour ended he check binned and stormed out muttering something about not paying more than 45 baht for a Heineken to some rip-off Farang!

I offered him a free one if he told me a few juicy political stories. He stayed. But half way through insisted on a free Sang Som to continue. I bit the bullet and gave him a free whiskey and then some. Anyway, he's getting more and more pissed and true to Thai form, wouldn't leave knowing there was free piss on offer.

To cut a long story short he stumbled into his SUV at about 3am and sped away. I couldn't say where he was going or where he is now. So I guess this hasn't been very helpful with regards to the original question.

I suggest you go back to Zanzibar for a last nightcap.. :D

I think that John was raising a serious point. :o

  9. Well if this is true then it is significant. I would suggest that someone go and see for sure as the 60-20-20 may apply.

I dont know what bkkandrew has seen, but Thaksin aint coming back!!

    Like I said 60-20-20

    <deleted> is 60-20-20 ?

I wanted to ask that, google didn't know, but I didn't want to sound thick... :o

You really are a bit thick. You do not need google for that, a calculator is what you need.

    Equals to 20! :D

But I thought that the meaning of life, The Universe and Everything was... :D

    49

  11. Well did anyone else see the news bulletin in question?

On the Ch7 website, the latest news story (timed 12.55) is that Thaksin has no plans to return to Thailand at the present time.

Oh, and they checked with his neighbours as well just to make sure that rumours of his return were untrue.

Yes, they have now added the word "rumours" (Th: kharlour) and interviewed his maid now:

    http://www.ch7.com/website/news/news06jan_1255_02.html

Thai journalism at its best... :D

Go for a news bulletin, splash an exclusive, then cover your tracks by interviewing the maid and change the story! There again, TIT :D:o:D

    ...OK tony.....

Great for the theory.. Now for the facts:

My wife worked for them 1997 - 2000. Always on temp contract, as the "perminent" staff were always the ones that got the job (oh yes, anyone can apply). The irony was that she was the PA to a director, who made hiring decisions, so she actually prepared the files for applicants, which were clearly marked as n/p for non-perminent, i.e. to be rejected and for successful applicants, whose files were marked with "P", unsurprisingly.

Also, unsurprisingly, she left what she viewed as a hopeless career when preparing the file for her own job....

  14. I found the following on the Post's website at 10.10 AM (??)

Rumours of Thaksin in Thailand 'untrue'

    (Bangkokpost.com)

Thaksin Shinawatra's legal advisor Noppadol Pattama denied rumours that the ousted premier entered Thailand through Cambodia and was now in Trat province.

"Mr Thaksin is not at Kong Island in Trat," said Mr Noppadol.

Mr Noppadol also denied rumours that Mr Thaksin was behind the bombings in Bangkok on New Year's Eve -- by providing more than one billion baht to former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to conduct violent activities.

Mr Noppadol demanded those who "accused" the ousted premier to prove that their words were true.

Well Channel supplied footage of the house in question and a definitive report of him having returned...

I was 100% on the translation, not one word I was unsure about, as it was a factual statement, rather than one of the normal, wishy washy, touchy feely, nonsense you get on news reports...

  15. Just watched a news bulletin, timed at 12.55 on Channel 7. Thaksin flew in last night and is currently at his house in Bangkok, scene of the "attempted bombing" last year, whilst still PM.

    This will stir it up!!

  16. What's the problem in the Comp?

My brother is a computer maniac- he'll do it. Knows a lot of Linux stuff too. :-)

I have already told Alex about his bathtime habits. One time he tried to bathe 150000 times in a day, :D perhaps he took the computer with him... :o
