Satire. Satire about unneeded submarines from the Chinese of all countries. What a Faustian deal with the devil that would be.
But to your point, if I'm not mistaken, I think the money was only unwillingly temporarily removed from current budgets after extreme criticism from high profile non military public figures & academics. If not for the covid issue turning extremely serious now, I believe the military government would still have it in their current budget.
So I disagree strongly with your assertion that the submarine issue needs a rest. I feel that the submarine issue deserves to remain front & center in peoples minds. Unless people continue to object strongly to it, the current decision makers will once again attempt to make it a priority.
Let's see what happens.
You should give the sub issue a rest. It's old news and you have a better issue with the decision to purchase 2 T-50TH advanced trainer jets with this years budget for delivery in 2023.

Fascinating report on how the main vaccine manufacturers created new global manufacturing and delivery systems in record time. Details the various setbacks that each experienced and explains why Pfizer/BioNTech was able to dominate. Also details the vast amounts of money that the US and UK spent.

You do not need to do a 90 day report until 90 days from the day you apply for your one year extension of stay.
THANKS! Glad I saw your first post because I just made a reservation for MTT that I'll now cancel.

That will not be needed if he applies for a extension. The first extension is equal to doing a report according to the rules.
Ubonjoe, I arrived in BKK on April 1 with a new passport. Previous extension had expired. Applied for a new non-O on April 22 and valid until July 22.
Did the 90 day clock start on April 1? If so, then my 90 day report should be due June 29. If I go to CW next week (either the 29th or 30th) to file my annual extension, I don't need to do a 90 report?

But, yes, I started the immigrant visa process after the second denial. Then gave the visitor visa one last shot to try to avoid the cost of the immigrant. Not going to play the "reapply when your circumstances change" game again. See how we go there, but I expect it to be a hard go. Buying or renting will easily take half my income.
There are a few upsides. I have 3 grandkids I have not met and a couple of kids I have not seen in 5 or more years. If we make the 3 years to get her citizenship OK, but no big benefit other than she can travel more freely. If she accumulates 5 years with me there, she qualifies for surviving spouse benefits under social security in the future.
Good luck! A couple of people have posted in the past that while it takes more money and a lot more time, getting the immigrant visa is a more straightforward process with better chance of a positive result.

17 hours ago, Rick Bechard said:I will differ from the other two replies. Your status here has nothing to do with your wife getting a visa. Your citizenship is apparently a big negative as well. The denial letter from the embassy, (my wife has 3) states that no matter which visa you are applying for every person applying is considered to have immigrant intention. The reason your citizenship makes a visitor visa harder is that if she gets into the US on one, after 90 days she can apply to convert to a spouse visa. They see this as her trying to jump the long line and waiting times to get a CR1/IR1 visa in Thailand.
My wife and I have been married 4 years, living here for 2 years. She lived with me in Australia (I am a dual citizen) for 15 months after the wedding. She has travelled in and out of Thailand to Australia a couple of times. She has a business in her name here, purchased 2 years ago. I am retired. At her interviews, she has supplied a packet of documents on our relationship, photos of us in Australia, her degrees, employment letters from when she worked for the Narcotics Bureau in BKK, marriage license, both our home registrations here, etc.. They really didn't even look at it. At the third interview, the officer did not even open the packet. Just handed it back to her. At the first interview, she was asked, "How many cars do you have and where will you park them when you are gone". "Where is your website for your business".
To an outside observer, it appears that after you both decided you didn't want to live in Australia anymore, you tried living in Thailand for 2 years. Now you both want to live in the US.
Both of your statuses are big red flags. She left a government job and went to live in Australia for over a year soon after being married. With only living in Thailand for just 2 years, I doubt that your wife will be able to show any compelling reason to return to Thailand. In addition, you're retired and can easily decide to live in the US and have no compelling reason to return to Thailand. Looks like your best bet to have your wife "visit" the US is to apply for an immigrant visa.

A friend who is still in Thailand since over 1 year now said to me today that he will go back to Europe and told me not to come in July as I was thinking because everything is closed, people have to wear the mask even in their car, and on motorbike or face heavy fines, and Phuket, Samui, Pattaya, everywhere it's like ghost cities, nobody in the streets... Nothing to do....Unlike Europe where everything is reopening now.
Also, when I look at all the formalities, certificates, bank statetements (no printing), expensive insurance etc etc to finally obtain a visa and "sesame" to enter in Thailand, I start to think to go somewhere else either in Europe or to Domenican Republic on holiday ....
Check the rules before you go to Dominican Republic. They still have a curfew. Started more than 5 months ago. Earlier this year the curfew was 5 pm - 5 am Mon-Fri and 3 pm - 5am Sat-Sun. Those breaking curfew were arrested and spent a night in jail. They didn't fool around with just issuing fines. Steep fines and a night in jail!
Now the curfew is relaxed to "Monday to Friday, starting at 10pm until 5am, with two-hour free circulation until midnight. On weekends, curfew is from 9pm to 5am, with the free circulation a.m., with free circulation again until midnight."

Arrived Visa Exempt on April 1. Stamped in until May 15 (45 days). Did my "7 day" quarantine.
Went to CW on April 22 and applied for non-O based on retirement.
Picked up my visa on May 7 with the non-O dated April 22. Stay valid until July 20. Will go back to CW late June to apply for annual extension.
No lines and minimum waiting at CW for section C1 but can make an appt. Relatively easy if you have all the paperwork. Area for annual extension was jammed with people on May 7 at 9:15 AM. I"ll definitely make an appt for the extension.

thanks for the addtl info and input. it looks like the online appointment site now works with browsers other than explorer, not sure that was the case last time i was looking into it. having the appt service is a huge improvement. it looks like quarantine is back to 14 days, but that still gives me two weeks to do the exempt to non O process. have bank account already and money is in there. so probably down to choosing an ASQ hotel and flight. saw some low prices on roojai.com for the covid insurance (much lower than a quote i got from another entity).
Visa exempt was changed to 45 days about 6-7 weeks ago to allow people more free time after they get out of Quarantine jail. This was back when 14 days was still required for everyone. I came in on April 1st and was stamped in with a stay until date of May 15.

I suspect they are just being cautious.
IF your CoE was issued before 1st may and you are arriving in Bangkok on or before 6th May, when you arrive at Suvarnambumi airport make sure they stamp your arrival card with 10 days Quarantine:
IF you CoE / Arrival window is outside of this 6 day period the 10 days quarantine cannot be ‘grandfathered in’ and 14 days (15 nights) is mandatory.
Note: ASQ hotel will follow whatever is stamped on your arrival documents.
When you arrive and step off the plane you will be seated in a queue, your documents will be checked at this stage (but nothing stamped).
You will be called forwards in groups of 10 to a ‘processing queue’ at which point your temperature will be taken and you will queue (smaller queues) for your documents to be checked. It is at this stage where your ASQ bookings will be cross checked, your CoE will cross checked against arrival records etc. Your Quarantine duration will be stamped into your arrival documents (Keep hold of this document !!! ).
The staff are friendly - talk with them and ensure you receive the 10 day quarantine stamp.
The hotel should refund the additional nights if you only have to stay 10 days.
I came in April 1st and at the 1st stop where everyone is seated and paperwork is originally reviewed, I received a paper with a 10 day stamp. When I asked why since I have the vaccine shots, I was told that at the next stop they review and will change if all the paperwork is correct. At the 2nd stop they took the paper that was stamped 10 day and gave me the 7 day stamped form.

I posted a report on applying for a Non-O retirement yesterday.
The first section of items you need to bring won't apply to you because I had a new passport with expired old passport and expired non-O.
The biggest obstacles you have will be to get a bank account, get the money transferred to the account, show proof of where you are staying and if renting then prove rent payments, and they will look for a filed TM30. Immigration in Bangkok didn't ask about any insurance.

thanks for the report. i'm debating whether to do this, get a non O, or non OA right now (from los angeles consulate). probably return in june or july. i did the change visa from exempt in 2017 so i'm leaning towards repeating that process. as i recall, i had a bank letter, bank book plus copies of it. no bank statement. i also had a copy of lease but no proof of payment. the best part was there was zero wait, alot dfferent than three months later when i went for the one year extension.
i assume the bank statement is the most recent, either mailed to your apt or obtained at the bank when you got the letter ? (i use a combo of foreign currency account and THB account), it is not a 'year end' or 'last twelve months' type of thing. i'm still on my original lease so i should be good to go there (easy to show proof of payment). seems the TM 30 is always a crapshoot.
thanks for the hotel tip, i'll take a look at that online. did you have a microwave in the room, i want to be able to reheat the meals.
The reason I didn't go the O-A route in 2017 is because of the physical and lab tests (my doc wouldn't sign the physical form without the tests) which I would have had to pay for because my work insurance wouldn't cover that as a necessary medical expense. Doubt my Medicare would cover that this year.
I don't think I needed the bank statement but since I was in the bank that morning and the teller asked if I wanted a statement I said yes to both. As others have mentioned in previous posts, make sure you can show that the funds came from outside the country. With the foreign currency account that's no issue but if the Baht account is large and there were substantial funds added to it lately, may or may not become an issue depending on the IO.
No microwave in the Anantara regular rooms but I think the suites have them. Contact them about possibly ordering one for your room. I didn't need one. I'm a foodie (owned a gourmet deli and worked in the gourmet food industry for a decade) and the food ranged from good to WOW. Plenty of food, incredible range of choices and almost always on time. You have a range of times you chose for delivery and it was delivered very warm or hot 20 out of 21 times.

I arrived on April 1with a 45 day Visa Exempt status. Did my “7 day quarantine” which means I was released on April 9.
Stayed at Anantara Riverside and for those who don't mind the expense, I highly recommend them. I originally paid for “10 days” but promptly received the refund to my credit card after I checked out.
Went to CW on Thursday, April 22. Had an appointment for 10:30 but arrived early so asked at front desk and they gave me a ticket. Waited 25 min and was called in at 10:10. Once again I had another very nice and helpful Immigration officer.
Had a new passport because mine expired while in the US. Naturally the retirement extension also expired same day as the passport.
Made copies of:
-
Old passport info page
-
Last extension
-
Final statement from foreign currency account that I used for the last extension
-
Copy (expired) of certificate of the foreign currency account. I canceled the account 2 days before I went back to the US and converted to Baht and transferred the money to my passbook savings account
-
TM 87 form filled out
-
New passport info page
-
New visa exempt stamp showing stay allowed until May 15
-
New 1 year lease for my condo
-
Copy of first payment on the lease (1 month deposit and first month's rent)
-
Copies of front page and last 2 pages of passbook saving acct.
-
Bank statement and bank letter.
-
Map of condo location
Things I needed to get copies of after taking to the IO.
-
The rest of the pages in my passbook. Fortunately it was only an extra 3 pages
-
Copies of the 1st non-O and 1st renewal from the old passport
-
Documentation of payment for the lease
The lease payment turned into a potential serious problem. The page with the required documentation that you can download has on the bottom in RED that they want a receipt of 3 months of rent payment. I explained that I just arrived 3 weeks ago and only had a “receipt” for deposit and 1 month's rent. Also showed my old expired lease and I'm returning to the same condo. IO said since I have been in Thailand a long time that she would accept the payment. The problem occurred that I had wired my girlfriend the money and she paid the landlord. So I was asked to provide proof that I wired the money to my girlfriend.
I couldn't access the Chase area where I wire money on the app and my girlfriend couldn't get the details from her BB bank account. Fortunately when I converted my foreign currency account I transferred a large enough sum to her and took a screen shot. Was able to use Line app at the printer downstairs to print off that transaction and IO accepted that.
Last point. The IO asked about the TM30. I explained that the landlord mailed it in on April 9 but hasn't received the acknowledgment. I told her I had previously used the online system to report when I traveled abroad and had a screenshot to show that. If your landlord sent this in, then if you don't have the receipt at least have the tracking information ready to show the IO. I forgot to ask my landlord but have the screenshot now.
When the IO said to return in 2 weeks to get the Visa stamp, I was briefly concerned and then remembered that this is the process they used before with my first non-O.

Does the vaccination have to be within 90 days of arrival in order to avoid quarantine?
If so what is the reasoning behind this requirement?
Cheers
Current rule is at least 14 days after your 2nd shot (J&J just 1 shot) and not more than 90 days.
Reasoning? Surely you jest. Governments around the world have decreed that every bizarre regulation is backed by SCIENCE.

I assume that when one arrives at BKK, you have to proceed immediately to quarantine when checked through incoming immigration. Maybe one could find a way to land directly in the Phuket airport instead of landing at BKK first? I've never done that but maybe there are flights from nearby countries where one could transit?
There are currently flights 2x week from Singapore on Singapore Air. I read that more airlines are about to announce additional flights soon but nothing official.

In general, your plans are fine. However, one little warning: the rules state that, for the conversion from tourist entry to Non Immigrant visa, you must have proof that the money in the bank came from abroad. If you do not still have the transaction certificate confirming the overseas transfer a couple of years ago, your application can be refused. Many senior officials will accept proof that the money has been in the account for some time in place of the proof the money came from abroad, but be aware that this could be an issue.
I originally brought the money over and deposited into a foreign currency account and still have all the paperwork, but It's good that you made others aware of that important point.

I'll have a first hand answer for you in a couple of months. Returning from the US in 2 weeks.
Retirement extension expired Jan 3 and I have 800K+ in the bank for more than 2 years. Also will have new 1 year lease but still at same address.
I'll come in visa exempt which is 45 days now. As soon as I get out of quarantine I'll get the 90 day non-O, then 60 days later get my annual extension at CW. Did this about 4 or 5 years ago and it wasn't that bad and hopefully won't be any worse this time.

This is brought up every year water shortages
They always seem to find money for anything to do with the Tourist industry
Maybe they should be looking at finding some for the Farmers
In better water management practices
In parts of the US, people pay big money to go to a ranch and for 2 weeks pretend they're living the life of cowboys.
Thailand can create Cannabis farms and let tourist pretend for 2 weeks that they are cannabis farmers. Of course much product sampling will be included. There would be millions lined up wanting to participate! Might even need to convert half the country to cannabis farming to meet the demand.

If you come from Sirat Expressway and go towards Sukhumvit Road, you will be on the correct side of the street. It's very close after you cross the bridge over the canal - maybe 100 meters.
Don't know if you can pull up this image in Google Maps but it shows you the car entrance on Asoke Rd just before you get to the Rutnin sign: https://www.google.com/maps/@13.746515,100.562812,3a,50.2y,94.95h,80.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sF84GtZjx8VltJWgdXwAfnA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Why are you assuming that "The incoming travellers have all been double vaxxed"?
That is wrong. Look at Phuket Facebook pages and you'll see families are in the Sandbox. Kids under 18 traveling with parents don't need to be vaxxed.
