I parked my EV in the sun whilst I charged it from my solar power, and when I returned to it it, it had turned into a giant, fluffy marshmallow, covered in chocolate and sprinkles.

The moral of this is only buy an EV and solar power, if you like marshmallows

I park my EV in the blast proof bunker 500 metres from the house.

A seismic detector lets me know if there is a problem with charging.

It is a scam if they admit THEIR error but then refuse to backtrack more than four years after 15 years of over-taxation; keep you waiting for over an hour on the phone; refuse to acknowledge letters posted from Thailand; make it almost impossible to communicate with them except by phone; promise action but then don't fulfil their promise.

I think it was probably the case that the guy in the HMRC call centre could only see records for the last four years on his screen and therefore was in no position to judge years prior to that.

I would not take that that to mean there could be no claim beyond four years.

Glad to hear a positive review! From what the salesman told me, the only differences between the RS and EL are:

    17" instead of 18" alloys

    manual seat adjustment controls

    no sunroof (hurrah!)

    no fancy chrome front grille

no wireless phone recharging pad (that doesn't bother me at all)

Is that really the lot or did he miss anything out?

The other thing is that he claimed apart from these relatively minor things, the body and engine are exactly the same. So in principle, if I wanted to spend the money, I could replace the 17" alloys with 18". Is that right?

The wheels and grille must be available as spare parts for the EL so you could certainly order and fit those.  Remember to budget for a set of tyres and fitting.

No, not during rainy season, as we use 7 or 8 kWh overnight, not being conservative.  We've also had krap days, where it took all day to almost top up the ESSs, while using conservatively.

We need 6kWh a day, even if we are not home.

     not a good production day

Actually sized it just about right, though we did add a second ESS, just for longevity.  Instead of taking it down to 35%, now only down to 60% at worse.

    OK.

We use on average 7 kwh per day here.  Presumably you run air con much of the time; or alternatively are smelting steel or running a desalination plant.

    Spot on.

Our system will easily generate 50kWh a day, even on a partly cloudy day, and we only need 20-30kWh day.

Leaving a hell of a lot of excess / free energy we don't need.

He ignores the part of us buying a new ICEV at the same time.  Which of course, nobody would buy if installing solar and planned on buying an EV, when their old car was running just fine.

So fine & trustworthy, we gave it to our daughter.

We've driven about 10k kms, locally on solar in 10 months.   So 1000 kms a month, 360 per charge, 3 full charges per month = 138.9kWh/30 days = 4.63kWh a day.

That's FREE energy in my world.

So you sized your solar system wrong?

Range for me is irrelevant, as long as it’s above my desired break interval which is about 300km.

What is important to me is performance, handling, NVH, design and recharge speed.

Above all performance and handling, every drive should be a pleasure.

One of the key ingredients of performance and handling is weight; or rather the lack thereof.

Current EVs fall down in that area though I don't doubt weight will come down as battery technology improves.

To take one example the Lotus Eletre weighs more than two and a half tonnes.  Colin Chapman must be rolling in his grave.

  7. The IDSI is the one with eight spark plugs which people hate replacing because they are expensive.

Do you know the service history?  I think the plugs are lifed at 100,000 km but the service schedule will tell you.

I am not saying it is the plugs.  Based on the little information you have given it could be many different things.

It will run fine on 91 or 95 assuming the fuel is not contaminated or old.

  8. Santander are a pain.

They have tried to shut down my account three times now.  My account remains open as I fought them tooth and nail each time.  The third time I wrote to them or called them on a daily basis for over a month before they caved in.

Banks will provide statements; or to be more exact Siam Commercial and Government Savings did in my case.  The statements look incredibly Mickey Mouse.  A bit like something you knocked up at home with a cheap printer and a rubber stamp bought at a local market but they were accepted as valid by Santander.  Both banks were happy to put whatever address I wanted on the statements based on zero evidence.

Evidence of address from Immigration is also worth pursuing.  I think in theory that should be free but assume tea money will be involved plus possibly a translation cost.

I now have two back up bank accounts in the UK that I opened recently.  If they function smoothly over a period of time I will drop Santander.
