Thai subsidies for Chinese EV makers wreak havoc on auto sector

Thailand now has 490,000 unsold EVs, according to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), equivalent to 63% of all vehicles the country turned out in the past 12 months.

That is an insane level of product dumping.

They are going to have to price them cheaper than a Honda Wave to try and shift them.

The "deleted" cars you get from Europe or USA?

Are you kidding? My 3 latest vehicles, BMW 320d M Sport, 520d M Sport and Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0, V6, are immaculate cars. Love them to death. Supreme quality, supreme tech, supreme transmissions, supreme engines and power, subpreme suspensions, supreme safety, supreme road handling and ride.

You wanna know the range of the BMW diesels? I'll tell you: In excess of 1400 kilometers. And if you want I can tell you how long it takes (in seconds, and in 20.000 places all over the country) to "charge" those BMWs for another 1400 km. Just ask me. :-0

    EVs can burn in hell.

    "EVs can burn in hell."

    They don't need much encouragement.

You should find it on the Electric Vehicles in Thailand thread. It was my work actually, and IIRC compared a few vehicles.

There is also the experience of a couple of us who have sold EV’s, I have sold 2 and another member here has sold 1.  We didn’t notice any different depreciation.  Well, to be clear I did on one of them, it lost only 10% over 2 years, but that was an unusual case.

No point in looking at the "worked example" when it is so obviously flawed.

And praying in aid a sample size of three with one obvious outlier doesn't really further your argument.

But well done you for unloading your Porsche Taycan without getting seriously burned.  So many people have got financially wrecked on that car.

unless both you compares ICE and EV are from the same seller on one2car

That makes no sense to me.

In many cases the vehicle in question may have been advertised yet remain unsold.  It is daft to base a "worked example" on such prices.

A lot of EV pricing on one2car is pretty speculative.  As one example it is quite common for grey import Teslas to be advertised secondhand for more than the new price of an officially imported car.

I didn't bother searching for the "worked example" but I suspect it is not your work.

This discussion is about BYD  - see the title. As I previously posted BYD's LFP batteries aren't toxic (see the link I posted)

My replies  to you all have links supporting my assertions - you on the other hand are flying "Link-Free"

You seem unaware what the L in LFP stands for.

Have you ever seen what Lithium mining looks like?

It is pretty much the poster child for environmental destruction and reduced life expectancy.

Road Tax, Servicing Costs and Fuel costs for EVs in Thailand

We have already discussed insurance costs for EVs in Thailand and thanks to all those who shared their quotes, do please keep them coming.

The example I will be sharing is my 2023 BYD Seal AWD Performance and I will be comparing it to my previous ICE Car a Mitsibishi Triton 4 door.

    Fuel Costs:

The Triton: ฿5,000 per month. The Triton was a thirsty beast. I  should point out that Surin has an excellent 4 lane ring road system with protected left turns at most junction lights, meaning that if you turn left at every junction you never have to stop at any lights. It does mean that you can clock up the miles as nearly all driving is done at highway speeds.

BYD Seal: ฿0 per month. Apart from the first week of ownership when I did some test charges on different chargers I have not paid for any driving as it has been 100% charged from excess home solar production.

    Road Tax:

    Triton ฿4,761

    BYD Seal ฿380

    IMG_4312.thumb.jpeg.809f8d34a41c2313030f9525f8222dc2.jpeg

    Servicing:

    BYD: ฿0 per year

My BYD comes with 8 years of completely free servicing (parts and labour) I have had only one service and it cost nothing. I watched the guy do the service from the customer lounge and it seemed to mainly consist of checking torque setting on some key bolts.

    Triton: ฿9,283 per year

Mitsu insisted on 6 monthly servicing to maintain the warranty. You can see from the invoice that the biggest ticket items are #6 + #7 both for engine oil.

    The solar system was free?

It seems to be in your calculation.

  7. I fitted the mirrors from a Honda Scoopy to my Ducati because they were much better than the OE Ducati mirrors.

It used to really annoy the people at Ducati Thonglor which I viewed as a bonus.

There are many many parts you can use for your bike.  Just don't expect them to come in a bag labelled Honda Rebel 500.

If that does not work get parts made to your spec.

I was replying to someone implying TH uses a lot of coal, and has little to no hydro.

It's a work in progress ... less oil & coal is a good thing.   Don't you think ?

Not too bad for a 3rd world country ... IMHO

Making huge strides in solar, or at least trying.

Less oil and coal is good but natural gas is also a hydrocarbon fossil fuel.
