  1. What a good week for English footy. Celtic as well. Well maybe Merseaside not too happy.

Ok then, what about this w/e?

    2-1 Huddersfield v Spurs
    0-2 Stoke v Saints
    2-0 Irons v Swans
    2-0 WBA v Watford
    1-2 Man U v Palace
    1-1 Bournemouth v Leicester
    2-1 Chelsea v Man city
    4-0 Arsenal v Seaguls
    4-0 Toffees v Burnley
    2-1 Geordies v Liverpool

This week could see a few surprise results.

I do like the new Everton c/f Niasse. So much energy and enthusiasm. Reminds me of a Toffeeman way back. Move over Roon; new kid on the block!!

Biggest game for me (outside EPL) Ipswich T v Bristol C

If you look closely at practically every culture, there is a dominant ideology telling everyone what to do and think. You're not any more enlightened (in the grand scheme of things) than Thais.

I also find it hard to be believe that you've never been offended due to a disagreement someone else had towards something you believe in. In just this thread your beliefs have been challenged and you're not coming off as being totally fine with it.

Anyone can say what they want to me and about me if they wish. I'm not offended in the slightest.

I am a Darwinian. Proud to be so.

Show me evidence and I'll make up my mind. I don't have faith in, or believe in, religion any more than I believe in ghosts on the moon or flying unicorms.

Just leave my cat out of it!!

You keep blaming this on religion but thats not really the issue here. The image of Buddha is a cultural icon that just happens to be based on a religious figure. But people who are not religious generally will still respect something other than themselves and hold it in high regard. Nowadays that can be an Apple logo, a sports figure, or a parent. If a community reveres a person who made significant contributions to that community (we will always need leaders and people to look up to its human nature) they usually will erect a statue of that person. If an outsider comes into the community and happens to like the look of the person's head and starts to collect sculptures and paintings of his head and eventually places several of them on a wall and tells everyone it's for decoration only, I think he would experience something similar if not worse (if in America).

I mean just look at whats going on in America with the NFL and the flag. That's not even a person, its an object but its still a symbol of a community that is revered.

I don't mind if he put the concrete heads on the wall and painted them different colours. If they looked like they were just decoration; then that's OK with me. What I don't like is the religious nutters that are oh so easily offended. I feel the same about Muslims, Catholics, the ultra US Christians and the Jews.

If someone says something bad about my favourite cat I don't get offended or threaten violence.

Thais have been told what they must think for a very long time. Getting off their knees would be a good starting point for the country to escape from the third world.

I do actually agree, I could not be offended by anything like this myself, but I do also respect others enough as to try not to offend them, no matter how trivial or misguided I may feel the offence may be, I just make an effort to prevent upsetting people.

I am not an antithiest I'm an athiest. I treat others as I would like to be treated. I help people when ever I can. I don't go out of my way to upset anyone. But these religious <deleted> believing they have a right to be offended is against what I think.

Humans get off your knees!! Good idea for Thailand!

Then Buddha himself was one of the most backward thinkers in your opinion, as one of the first notable things he did was to sit at the feet of the greatest religious teachers of his day, he believed in the notion of paying respect by lowering oneself to the level of the feet of those you respect. <snip snip> these people are using Buddha as a cheap trinket.

Everyone is equal. Science is enough to kick all religions into the dust bin. The reason they continue is through indoctrination of children and regeims and groups holding on to power to dictate to the masses.

I don't care if the guy put the concrete heads on the wall and painted them. I don't care if they looked nice or not. What I care about is the religious <deleted> getting oh so easily offended. Sounds like the Salman Rushdie affair or ultra US Christians insisting that the earth is less than 10k years old.

    It's all nonsense.

Original Buddhism comes from a country where the head is considered most sacred and the feet unclean, and thus the placing of a statue of any revered person on the ground where our unclean feet tread is considered utterly disrespectful.

Substance before belief. Evidence before faith. Facts before hurt feelings. Common sense before myth.

The countries that think they are the guardians of religion are some of the most backward thinkers in the world.

Not all of us come from the USA.

The US have one of the biggest problems with religion in the world. Although It is the home of secuarlism it didn't stop Bush finishing each speech with the sentence "God bless America." The founding fathers would be turning in their graves.

The problems of countries that have an amalgamation of government and religion (state religion) are mixed. England has stability while others including Thailand are not so fortunate.

Indoctrination of children with religious clap-trap could be the biggest problem the world faces today.

You can likewise claim to be Buddhist....  yet show no sign of being Buddhist in your heart and mind.    Simply going throught the motions in the Christian church or the Buddhist temple means little or nothing.

That would be most Thais then.

    I think it is important to know;

01 If the gold paint had any gold in it

02 Were the concrete heads painted before they were put on the wall or after.

  9. When the gentleman purchased the concrete heads did he cement them onto the wall himself or did he pay a local? My guess is that he paid someone. Did the Thai given the job think that someone is not going to like this; so I'll give this work a miss'? Of course not. The baht dilutes most principles here.

I am not a practicing buddhist, never was, ever heard of hypocrites? got them all over the world,  they say one thing and do another, say do as I say. not as i do.

Hypocrites!! What you did was very, very bad, but give me money and it will be OK.

are trying to sidetrack the thread.

If you like 'waifs' and pinched noses and goblin chins and wigs, I'm not going to argue. I respect your choices in ladies. I like the older (over 40) more rounded lady with an eye for a good buffalo. I also like to see natural beauty; as in hairy armpits and muddy feet.

  11. Just now, joeyg said:

The pics of the girls are nice. I agree with you there Joey. A lot seem to have pointed toes though!

Anyway back to Miss goblin chin. I know a lot of guys would like this waif but I like the more natural lady.

  12. Just now, joeyg said:

Unacceptable!! Man I love you guys... :cheesy:

    Yes it is unacceptable Joe.

She is sending out mesages to other young girls that aspire to be 'Miss Motorsale'. She is saying that unless you have a chin so pointed that it could crack open coconuts you can't possibly win.

But I am more concerned with her weight. She is obviously undernurished. Some malt bread with full fat butter and jam is required; after the dumpling stew.

I told my Thai missus about Buddhas being popular as garden ornaments in the West and she it is sacrilegious in Thailand to place images of the Buddha on the ground. So it is an altitude thing. Similarly wall pictures of the King and of the Buddha must be higher on the wall in the home than any other images like family photos or art. Also the head being the highest point in the body and believed to house the highest chakra is regarded as sacred and it  is insulting to touch a Thai  head. The feet (walking in the dirt) are regarded as the lowest spiritually as well as literally  which is why it is insulting to point them at someone in Thailand or India. In my experience I think this is rarely a concern, as in 12 yrs I have never come across it being a consideration by any Thai.

The only reason for this Thai Buddha nonsense and other stuff in the above paragraph is that Thais are constantly saturated by the proporganda telling them what they must believe. Some break free and become free-thinkers whilst others cannot break away from the indoctrination they experience since they could first walk. This is no different from the muslims (mohammed going to heaven on a winged horse) and the ultra-christians of the US (teaching creationism in schools).

Science tells us how to think and religion what must be thought.

Do unto others as you would wish done to yourself. That is enough to get started and  it is enough to dump all this religous claptrap (from around the world) into the past alongside greek gods and flat-earth preachers.

Pehaps I expect too much. Faith before facts and belief without evidence.

It was never on the cards. It's just a power struggle between different factions. It was never the intention of the junta to fix anything as is apparent after more than three years of military rule.

Yinluck gave Ch-o-ch a free hand.

    She trusted him.

What I'm preturbed about is this; there and literally hundreds of pics of them together. Well,,, so what!!?? I've seen a couple where, walking behind, he was glaring at her backside. Is it possible that he made a play for her and got rejected? Might explain his sudden obsession of destoying her.

These pics were some 6 months before the Junta takeover. If I get the pics I'll post them up.

Really may be dificult to live in a Buddhist country with negative views of Buddhism

So a person living in a different country is going to find it difficult!

I have no views on buddhism; except what I see. I'm an athiest. Yes,,, I do find it a challenge but I've got more love and respect for things in Thailand than most of the Thais I know. I find them very shallow indeed. Will change direction at a moment's notice. And principles!!! One of the posters on TVForum has this quote; "Those are my principles and if you don't like them,, well I have others." Thais all over.

Amaze me that most comments are critics of the Thailand culture and way of life.

    <snip><snip>

That is just "Thainess". If you decided to  live here, nothing better that gaining the respect of the community around you showing interest of its culture and traditions.

I do live here. And I am trying to tread the path between respect for an absurd Thai form of religion and atheism. It's not easy as most here will know.

Before Darwin westerners had an excuse for religion. What else could explain the catatrophes of life? Now they are more educated they know differently.

What I know about Thai buddha culture does not reflect on anything good in my book. It's more about greed, saving face, lies and ridiculous beliefs.

cheesiness or tackiness, is art or other objects that appeal to popular or uncultivated taste because they are garish or overly sentimental, which means that these objects are considered by other people to be ugly, without style, false, or in poor taste but enjoyed or appreciated by still other people in an ironic or knowing way or because it is funny.

What is art for one is fart for another.
