PM Says Weak Baht Can Help Export and Tourism Sectors
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, you need to export a lot more. Need much more weakness in the baht. -
I certainly hope this puts an end to his recommendations for the government to increase immigration income/money in the bank for retirement extensions.

There really is no need for people to constantly bring up comparisons to the US and the UK. It's tiresome and off topic. This is Thailand. You don't need to see everything through American/British glasses.

This is some funny stuff. I remember when similar instances took place under Yingluck. Police arrived and "negotiated" with suspects, giving them plenty of time to dispose of any evidence. Not saying this is true of BJ. As we all know, this guy is super clean and a credit to the force. Everybody on AN tells me so. So it must be true. BTW "he'll be back."

There seem to be a few people posting "worst case scenarios" over and over. Starting to wonder if there are some vested interests at work. People leaving links to tax firms' advertisements already popping up too. I certainly don't know how this will play out. Whichever way it goes, it's not a ringing endorsement for the new government, which looks haphazard and desperate.

From what I've seen in the past, Immigration doesn't like other departments encroaching on their turf or causing them more work. They might fight the imposition of tax documentation into their rules, (which also need to be certified by legislative acts, don't they?), and be something they will resist more than we do.

My tax office isn't too far away. I haven't got anything else to do. So, if the time comes when I need to prove no tax payment, I will be the one doing the delaying, scheduling, and endlessly explaining. I will spend days, even weeks, getting the tax people to detail, examine, refer, cite, and detail my return. I'll clog up their system.

At least he didn't threaten to tax our overseas savings and pensions.

PM admits political divide in Thailand is difficult to tackle
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What happens if village stores sign up for this wallet idea, give out the goods, accept the digital payment, and then the government fails to reimburse 6 months later as promised because, well, you know, no money and they've already established the fact that you shouldn't trust their word or their promises? -

Everybody else is getting screwed over by this government, so it's only right that the marijuana people get their toy taken away too. -

Thai Police Awarded for Anti-Crime Cooperation by China
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Seems a little unclear to me. Is this article saying that Chinese police will now be co-policing the Thai border and influencing immigration? -
It’s time for US to do more business in Thailand : Thai PM
John Drake replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I talked seven years ago with a US representative selling helicopters. He said he simply couldn't book an order here because of the bribes necessary. The US has laws forbidding paying bribes for overseas business and the punishments are apparently quite severe. He said everyone else was passing out bribes left and right. He had no chance. -
It’s time for US to do more business in Thailand : Thai PM
John Drake replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes. Why would US firms come to Thailand, where Chinese businesses are given a preference and Chinese nationals are allowed to flood the work environment while effectively ignoring the restrictions put on Western companies and their employees?
