Outrageous? They just caught a German national overstaying 19 years.
I basically overstayed out of convenience, and since I'm not returning to Thailand I could not care less about a ban.
Now I am in Cambodia, legal with entry stamps, and I did not have to pay any overstay-fine.Thanks everyone for the advise!
didn't have to pay an overstay fine? doesn't sound very legal to me mate

Does that mean you have to respect the Law to Avoid The Law ?
nope, certainly not here. just avoid the law here best you can i'd say.

no hisos involved just people with money?
yeah, the hisos would have been erased by now and those with money but not well connected can enjoy a good fleecing.

What is your reason for such an outrageous overstay?
would be more interested as to why he can't go back through vietnam, seems a bit suss. but normally i think he could just book a flight through a different airline and he'd be ok. i was refused in HCMC by Air Asia because of slight water damage on an old passport, booked a flight through nok air and was no problem so it may just be down to that airlines policies

On most modern trains, the train will not be stopped mid-route, as it is difficult to deal with any problems on the viaduct. Instead, the train will be held at the platform for the problem to be resolved, which is what happened here.
held at the next platform. the trains doors are open whilst moving between platforms. not sure all modern trains but i know that underground trains in the UK would stop. the operator would then have to go down the carriages to fix the problem. most problems can be sorted from under the seats and floors on the carriages and the operators training is mainly fault finding and fixing and a small amount is the actual driving the trains which is a piece of piss if they have to even drive them at all. if the operator couldn't fix the problem he would isolate that carriage and sort at the next station. not sure the BTS trains but there's a serious flaw there, that's seriously dangerous especially during rush hour. luckily that carriage didn't look too packed as they often are

Bank Robbery Rules;

yeah, he thought that robbery through alright. what a plum

that's pretty shit poor performance. i know most trains, certainly London underground trains have a circuit running through the doors and if the circuit breaks the train will come to a stop. so on old trains even that had guards, the guard would give the driver the bell(electric circuit confirming all the doors are closed) on the newer trains they would often announce not to lean on the doors as although they certainly shouldn't open as in the case on the bts, it could break a saftey circuit and the train may keep stopping during rush hour for example. something tells me as well as usual bad maintenance they may also have a few design flaws.

nope. Yank. live abroad long enough and one starts to mutate though....
so i'd definitely need a visa for VN, but they're super easy, you buy it online and pick it up at immigration. i like Vientiane just fine, but VN is spectacular. i'll definitely stay more than one night.
missus i had you as a brit, freaking i had you as a yank but in this case thought you were a brit avoiding using the f word 555. yeah, i love HCMC, worth staying a while if you have the time

That depends upon his nationality. Those from many countries do need a visa.
the slang in post #5 kind of gave him away as a brit 555, but yes no visa required for vietnam *depending on nationality

Happy enough... with a letter from the Missus i can get a year at HCMC?!? i freakin' love VN. this is real? wow. strongly considering.
yes. all same as savannaket except just need the letter. if you are in bkk you can fly early enough to put the application in and pick up next day and fly back in the evening. cheap flight, only one night hotel and no visa required for vietnam. and yes hcmc is a much better place to be than anywhere in laos that's for sure, well IMO anyway

if you don't want to go to Savvannket and want a one year ME then you could fly to HCMC and get it there with the docs you mentioned. only additional thing you'll need is a letter from your mrs requesting the visa. can also be done in one night. may be worth considering

another amulet story for the buddhist holiday.
similarly to the other amulet story today, the fact that your son in law was shooting at you and that you now have bullet holes in your motor proves that your amulet doesn't work.
all it proves is your son in law can't shoot for shit and you were a jammy git.
if you're so sure in your amulets magical powers, go to your nearest shooting range, stand down next to the targets, put your amulet on ask someone to shoot you.
if you are not in a morgue, i'll buy the bloody amulet of you.

if you're amulet was so great you wouldn't have smashed your car up in the first place, clowns

poipet and 'denied entry' in the same head line, no surprises there.
if it's a visa run just don't go there whatever visa you are holding.
even if they let you through they make sure you know they don't want you doing it there before they let you back in.
just not worth it, plenty of other borders

Amount of time in jail: 2 years
Amount of time he would have lost doing visa runs: 2 years
10 year ban at the age of 60 in a country he has lived in for nearly 20 years and no doubt all his friends are here and perhaps even a family. he won't be able to come back until he's 70.
got to go IDC and somehow get back to germany a country he hasn't been to in 20 years and find work at the age of 60 after living here for so long is not good, in fact, if i was him and given the option of 2 years in jail i'd probably take it depending on his full situation support wise in germany

Your head is filled with farang court nonsense. Poor thai vs thai is what it is ..no buying a verdict here
my head is filled with no such thing, what are you talking about? didn't mention any court or anything to do with farangs.
doesn't matter if you're thai, farang or anyone else, if you honestly respect the law here be that the courts or police then it sure as hell doesn't take much to earn your respect
** respect the law? . . . . avoid the law

Yes may well be true.
But cant he go back to Germany , change his name legally via deed pole
get a new passport and return to Thailand. ? don't think the face reconition
camera computer systems works in Thailand. that well, or at all at the borders
Only saying.
not that simple anymore and if caught trying to cheat the ban then i would assume he'd be looking at jail time and then another deportation probably with a life time ban

i don't condone the guy killing his wife obviously but at the same time it must have been really hard to take that after at least 35 years i assume (their daughters age) that he was to be left alone aged 77.
and who knows what his mental state and health may have been like at 77.
no excuse but with his anger, fear and then probably hatred consuming him and with what would seem nothing much to lose he decided to do the worst thing possible

He saved himself a lot of money and hassle in the past 19 years.
Well done, mate.
but now having to return to germany with perhaps no where to live and where he may find it difficult to find work.
perhaps he has family and all his friends are here after almost 20 years without leaving.
either way i'd say he's pretty screwed and should have cleared his overstay before the bans came in, that was his real mistake IMO, he had got away with it long enough could've have paid only 20k and stepped straight back in.

Funniest part is when they get rid of the helmets before they steal the bike. Kids here really have no interest whatsoever in safety.
i thought they were stealing the helmets at first but i guess the little rugrats were smart enough to know there's no market for them so because someone was stupid enough to leave the keys in the bike they just opportunistically thought no more walking today boys and off they went.
trying to work out at the start of the video if the tyres in the road are to reserve parking or if that's supposed to be warning of a massive hole in the road.
hate to say it but i think most of those kids if not all are destined for a pretty shit future.

just invite some bloke you met out on the street into your house, little bit too trusting there me thinks.
most people would get the bloke a water i reckon but i'd sure as hell make him wait outside for it.

of course he is in the wrong and the risk he took has caught up with him. 19 years is a pretty impressive run though.
i'd have been constantly paranoid so wouldn't have been comfortable at all maybe he just got used to it.
don't know his circumstances but i kind of feel for the guy, must have been a massive shock to realize his life just turned upside down, i hope there isn't a family being broken up because of this.
but he knew the risks especially with the banning coming into place a few years ago
i suppose he made his bed . . . just not worth the risk
