It’s sad that so many of us like to suppress reality with alcohol and drugs. I don’t exclude myself from this as I’m a recovering alcoholic 26 years . The best times of my life have been since I stopped. I had never been to Thailand when drinking. I wouldn’t have the money. I have been visiting sometimes 3 or four times a year this past 12 years…honestly enjoying all the trips and growing old disgracefully. the best thing I of all for me is that my grandchildren have never seen me drinking or taking drugs.

The average wage in Thailand is low and contributes to the reason why it's cheap to visit or live in Thailand. If they paid a decent wage prices would have to rise but at the moment they are rising anyway from exploitation and greed. I have seen many products in 7/11 that are as expensive as my own Country, Ireland , which is the second most expensive country in the EU.yes, import taxes , which are ludicrous, do account for this, wine being the best example, but sheer profiteering is rife.

If you love visiting Thailand you tend to ignore the negative stuff that you encounter and forgive the ever decreasing sense of being welcome and feeling safe from exploitation but in recent visits I am gradually leaning towards finding new counties to visit and dropping Thailand from my list.... sadly. The whole package of Thailand's welcome, costs, service, and amenities is deteriorating and now feels like a rip off .. even the ladies are getting fatter !
