Him telling you to go back to China sounds a bit ignorant, but not racist. For pulling the race card a bit too quick, I think you should go back to Australia.

Another resource for listening skills. Weekly words with Ja on youtube. Two to three minute videos with vocabulary and sample sentences.

I'm glad I went back and gave this a second look. At first, I mistakenly thought it was all geared towards learning Isaan which I don't want to confuse myself with just now. But a deeper look revealed a variety of topics and short videos that perfectly match my attention span. I can understand her pretty well, but it takes full concentration. I watch a video once at 0.75X speed, and then a couple of times at normal speed. Brain fatigue sets in and I have to take a break. Doing that a couple of times a day is great practice for listening comprehension. Excellent resource. Thanks.

The man is simply pointing out his unhappiness with loud music when he goes out for a nice dinner. Should he be asked to leave the country over such a trifle matter?
It is well known that when anyone complains about anything on TV, common protocol dictates that others , in turn, will complain about said complaining. If you have a complaint about that, kindly direct your complaints to the complaint department.

In some areas people enjoy noise (of their choosing), and in other places they do not. In Salvador, Brazil they have groups of drummers in the streets constantly pounding so loud it echoes through the city. It's deafening. I once talked to a guy that grew up in Salvador but moved away. He told me what he missed the most was all the noise. To each their own. If you don't like it, go some place to be with like-minded people.

An unhappy girl pointed out to me that she had pimples. So I asked her why do you have pimples. She said she was allergic to her cheap makeup and it gave her pimples. I asked what she would do. She said she would apply more makeup to hide the pimples. I asked why she didn't stop using the makeup. She said she had to use it, because she had pimples.

Context Two: Judges were expressing opinions or giving feedback on the meals, and many times started with ความคิดสั้นๆ. I'm thinking it's like saying, "In brief my opinion is..." or "A quick thought of mine is..."

Now that my brain is tuned into it I seem to hear it often. Below are some examples of how it was used in combination with a verb. Sometimes the verb was before and sometimes it was after ความคิดสั้นๆ. Judges were choosing between dish-A and dish-B. I typed it up the best I could after hearing the dialogue, I'm sure there are mistakes. The verbs are 'I like', 'I have to go with', 'I believe'.

Yes, thanks tgeezer. That fits very well with context one, and you explained it much better than me. I still wonder about context two where they often began a sentence with ความคิดสั้นๆ, and then went on to express their opinions. It's possible I misunderstood what was happening.

I recently heard ความคิดสั้นๆ used multiple times on Master Chef Thailand in a couple of contexts. I would roughly translate it to some type of brief/short thought or idea, but would like to understand it better.
Context One: Competitors were deciding how to prepare a meal and were told that ความคิดสั้นๆ is not good enough. I'm assuming they needed to put more thought or deeper thought into it. Not just settle for the first quick idea that came to mind.
Context Two: Judges were expressing opinions or giving feedback on the meals, and many times started with ความคิดสั้นๆ. I'm thinking it's like saying, "In brief my opinion is..." or "A quick thought of mine is..."
I'm hoping somebody here can give a better translation or do better justice in expressing what is meant by this phrase. Thanks

It's not just about living longer in the future, but also quality of life now. Who wants to carry around a 50 pound belly 24 hours a day. You might as well strap on a pack full of rocks and never take it off. Everything is more of a struggle when your fat, even just putting on shoes and socks. Walking around or up the BTS stairs makes you short-winded. It can limit recreational activities you might want to do. Sex is less enjoyable as is self-esteem.
Even doctors will take your weight into consideration when treating you. After a bad lower leg injury the doctors told me if I was diabetic, a smoker, or overweight they would have amputated at the knee on the first day. Because I was none of those things they chose to do everything possible to save my leg and foot.
Being obese creates a daily struggle for normal activities. I'm too lazy for that, I'd rather diet and exercise.

While I sympathise ( I'm partially deaf myself and hate wearing a hearing aid ), does it not occur to you that going to a public place and shouting is somewhat antisocial? Can you not write things down that have to be conveyed, and keep the shouting till in your own space?
I used to visit my aunt and when she was past age 80 I had to yell for her to hear. She was lonely and loved to be taken out to eat and she loved to talk. Writing notes when your fingers are covered with hot-wing sauce is less than convenient. I had to talk so loud the entire restaurant could hear me and probably people up and down the block. I didn't feel 'antisocial', maybe embarrassed at times, but she was my aunt and I was happy to do it.
However, in general I do agree that loud people are annoying and inconsiderate of others.

What are some other countries where 180 cm guys have to constantly duck their heads?
Peru. I'm the same height as you and was once married to a Wild Amazon Woman from Peru. Outside of major areas, in markets and on sidewalks, I often have to duck and weave even more there than in Thailand.

My girl cleared it up once and for all, she says, "I call me". Then she gave me about 20 more examples none of which made any sense at all.????

Had a girlfriend years ago that watched Thai TV. I asked her about all those stupid sound effects and she got excited saying, "They make the show even better!".

At 11 years old I was arrested for throwing a snowball from a moving vehicle into the windshield of another vehicle moving in the opposite direction. The windshield shattered and wicked chaos broke loose from there. I was charged with Assault With A Deadly Weapon. Perhaps the OP, and others here wanting protection, could carry a few snowballs in their pockets. However, beware, the worst part is having to call your dad and tell him to come pick you up from jail.

When you look up words on the thai-language.com online dictionary it often gives sample sentences.

Owned my own place in the US for 21 years and loved it, but it's a lot of responsibility too for upkeep and maintenance. It's also restrictive, as I liked to leave for 6-8 months at a time and had to find someone to take care of it while I was traveling. Retirement for me means as little responsibility and as much freedom as possible. I also enjoy not owning a car and all the expenses and responsibilities that come with that, and parking hassles. Why assume people are bothered by not owning?

I've heard the same, so it is generally used in a negative way towards men obsessed with sex or some type of pervert. And snakes do fornicate, that's how they reproduce. Males have hemipenes making them capable of the double-whammy.

It seems like you could just hang some signs up around your neighborhood saying that you are a foreigner visiting Thailand and you would appreciate it if the residents of this country could tip-toe around in the morning and be quiet like little mice so that you can sleep late. Surely they will respect your wishes.

been going on all day.
Why are you guys still lounging around in bed at 6:30 a.m.? By that time you should be returning from your morning run to fix a big, healthy breakfast before you do some strength training and then get on with a productive day. Gees, lazy people expecting the rest of the world to revolve around them.????

It's also called the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, which is experienced by most males.
I understand there is a Thai expression saying old cattle prefer young grass, applied to old Thais and their mia nois.
These seem like three distinct ideas to me. Grass is greener is a comparison of your situation to others and you always thinking that what others have is better than you. Better job, better life, better girlfriend, etc.. Midlife crisis is more of a self-reflection and unhappiness/confusion that your life didn't turn out the way you anticipated or seems to be going nowhere as you approach your sunset years. I think Old Cattle preferring Young Grass simply refers to older men liking younger girls.
Deserted...your OP is your 555th post, so I believe in Thailand many believe that is good luck for you, or maybe just happiness and laughter.

Except for the one small detail that vasectomies are not retroactive, it won't solve a problem already created 20 years ago. If you'd given this advice BEFORE the deed was done it could be problem solved. But you didn't. So, problem not solved.
