  1. Let's see: 62 people @ 10,000 Euro each = 620,000 Euro

At exchange rate of just 30:1 = 25,330,000 baht (approx).

Could have lived a very nice, quiet life here, and never had to worry about a thing, IF he had really wanted to. Like one poster said: It's not the money, it's the game.

    Idiot.

    620,000 x 30 = 25,330,000 ?

    clap2.gif

since when is the euro down to 30, should be 40.24 as today

  2. This was inevitable and predictable before the floods.

The floods and the way the Thai Government (mis)handled them was the tipping point that made the pain of staying greater than the pain of leaving.

The Japanese have experienced training an uneducated workforce, dealing with corrupt Governments and putting their faith in lying officials when they came to Thailand. No doubt they made mistakes and would have done things differently. Now they have that chance.

That experience will bode well in moving to Cambodia or elsewhere and they will be much further ahead of the game.

Good time to invest in high end Karaoke Bars in Pnom Penh...as these companies will not be the last to go once the Cambodians get their pitch right.

Thailand is looking for some deap crisis in near future as the reality from the flooding surfaces, foreign companies in Thailand may no get insurance renewals on their factories or supply disruption.

"Insurers and reinsurers may limit the coverage they offer for supply-chain disruptions and negotiate higher prices after record claims from natural disasters in Japan and Thailand."

  3. I have good friend from Hong Kong whom was also druged at a bar in bangkok while on holiday here in Thailand.

He was taken to hospital after falling unconciuos and was in a coma for 10 days, he has the same symtoms as a stroke, but medical report says no stroke evidence found!

His whole life is destroyed, only left with despair and sorrow, for no reason at all!

    :(

  4. Thank you for your thoughts on this matter!

I am planning to talk and to resign. If they bring up the money, I will just make a run for it then. ;)

  5. In trying to justify the non action by the British Embassy and Consul M/Chief(a poster above) says amongst other things:

"But, embassies/consulates cannot by their country policies and local laws rely on these activities, nor by officially contact them or support them, as this would conflict with mission policies and local laws that foreign embassies and consulates must abide to."

-With respect this is a load of tripe and reads like civil servant clap trap. I do not care what fanciful excuses are raised for non action. A body such as the British Embassy and its' agents have a moral if not legal duty to attempt to protect and rescue one of its citizens when a life is at stake. There was a total and disgraceful failure to do so and it was left to a brave woman to intervene.

The Brit Embassy and Consul should hang its' lazy and cowardly face in shame.

If you were passing a lake and a person was drowning in front of your eyes and you had the ability or means to try to save that person, what would you do?

Sure one would help in a direct action by jumping into the water and save that soul, but what do you do when that soul does not want to be rescued or saved? By force?

How can you help people in your own home country? people who have no home nor money for everyday living? How can one help the baglady, the needle pusher at the substation, the drug abusing hookers at camp Pendleton if they do not want to be saved or rescued?

This case here in Thailand does not want the help he needs, so how to help?

The UK embassy is not an social wellfare office and have no rights too act as such, in due respect of the legal freedom its citizens have, to do with their lives almost what ever the citizen wants!

Some kind hearted expats have tried several times to help in this case, but how far can it help?

This is a social wellfare issue that all countries face, how to help human beings that do not want their help?

  6. Maybe all Brits should send and email to the consular enquiries email here:

    http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/our-embassy/contact-us/

They make take note and assist him in contacting his family who may not be aware of his circumstances.

Have you read my post here #180?

Believe me when I say that no one is left alone by the UK embassy, staff have sure called direct family and the social wellfare office in the UK.

    ;)

  7. This is how embassies and honorary consulates work with these repeatedly "returning social cases".

First I must mention that "embassies and consulates are established by the foreign ministry of the representing country. By official representatives through the acting/hearing of the government of one state and in the territory of another, normally acting to assist and protect the citizens of the embassy/consul's own country, and to facilitate trade and friendship between the people of the country to whom he or she is accredited and the country of which he or she is a representative".

So far straight forward, serve and protect their countrymen!

They will be there to assist if you lose your money or property, passport, have an accident, get arrested or loss of life. But these are very restricted duties.

    - Loss of money or property.... Contact the local police and report the incident, contact your insurance provider, contact your financial institute, contact your lawyer if further assistance is needed.

If these actions fail, then you can contact your embassy or consulate for assistance.

The embassy or the consulate will not provide you with money or replace your property, if you need means of contact to your family or friends (to ask for financial assistance) this can be provided.

If all of these actions fail, you can borrow money (depending of country) for travel home. Not to continue your holiday or living abroad status!

    # you left your home country on your own free will and must take responsibility for such by yourself.

The embassy or the consulate, are not a social care institutes!

    - Loss of passport, renewal or temporary passports…… yes of course! Report the loss of passport to the local police and bring the police report with you to your embassy/consulate. Other administrational duties are welcome.

    - Accidents…. Contact your insurance provider, contact you family and friends, contact your embassy/consulate of your current status.

International hospitals do have international staff helping out with many issues, (talk friendly to them, they are great helpers.)

    - Arrested…. Contact your lawyer, contact family and friends (some cases will not do this?) contact your embassy/consulate.

Embassy/consulate will not provide with legal aid if crimes committed by yourself. If you are arrested due to other reasons, then maybe legal aid can be provided (depends on country)

In prison food, utilities, hygiene articles are not provided by embassy/consulate. You must rely on family and friends for this.

    - Death… Family or friends must contact your insurance provider and contact your embassy or consulate.

In general embassies or consulates do not pay for repatriation to home country, this is a case for the insurance provider. The local authorities and the embassy/consulate will do the legal paper works.

This is how it worked also during the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami. Some countries paid for this, but in general, no!

#These are the general rules and regulations(with variations)embassies and consulates follow.

When travel to Thailand you must have a return or outbound travel ticket, sufficient financial means for your stay in Thailand, have adequate insurance policies and common sense as a visitor to a foreign country.

For these visitors who visit Thailand with mental or physical illness, may come here for reasons hard to explain, could be nice climate, good friendship, easy style of living, no social ranking or distance to domestic problem! Same as all other “healthy” travellers reason to visit or stay in Thailand.

Every country with Thailand as a tourist destination has cases with citizens not able to care for them self. Every country has their cases of these repeatedly "returning social cases".

Most hard hit are those whom have extended vastly the hospitality from family and friends, not able to have financial funds to stay on in Thailand. Leading them to be asked to leave hotels or rentals. Living on the street or at nearby temples.

Police will arrest them if they are first time offenders for overstay of visa, the embassy/consulate will be contacted. Thai immigration will place them in their arrest, awaiting court sentence and deportation. Travel tickets must be provided by the offender. Respective country embassy/consulate will be contacted by the local police to inform about their case. If the embassy/consulate manages to get the fines paid and provide with tickets paid by the offender/family/friend then the offender is deported back to country of origin.

If the embassy/consulate cannot find funds for fines and travel tickets for the offender then further problems come fast. Thai immigration arrest facilities are not meant for long stay prisoners.

So the offender will be sent back to the police station. The police station will now face problems with the mental illness that the offender has, everything from suicidal, self-mutilation, dress of naked, aggressive behavior to police staff and cell mates, hygienic disabilities, self-starvation, malnutrition or medical conditions. The offender will be sent to a local hospital care, from there the offender walks out to care for themselves again, as the local police have hard time to care for these cases.

Now, if the offender gets his fines and travel tickets paid, then deported back to country of origin. All well if the case not decides to visit Thailand again, again.

To, humanitarian persons or organization taking care/helping in cases like these. They are wonderful people in their efforts to help people in distress and are very appreciated by all parties.

But, embassies/consulates cannot by their country policies and local laws rely on these activities, nor by officially contact them or support them, as this would conflict with mission policies and local laws that foreign embassies and consulates must abide to.

Hope this may clear some of the issues in this treads case and mentioned Thaivisa tread.

For clarification, I am not involved in any foreign mission here in Thailand.

  8. 91.5 FM air only one channel stereo sound now a days, horrible sound quality.

  9. Just an interesting point; your insurance premium is less if you live in a detached house.

Less likelihood of a fire spreading to your house from a nearby property.

Maybe I have a lousy policy , but when reading all the small print some years back i found alot of exclusions which I was informed are pretty standard for Thailand.

Interested to know differences in coverage as mine up for renewel. I am with ayudhya insurance. Maybe time to look at the bigger company's , if they have any money left to pay out that is...

    Nirvana

I use an insurance broker for all my subjects, he knows all the pros and cons about all insurances in Thailand, information you never get from insurance agents or the insurance company.

  10. I was at a bar on Sukhumwit yesterday and I can still not stop laughing.

The live band was playing "I gotta feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas.

Everybody loves this tune, p-p-p-party all the time. It is great!

As so did a group of Syrian guys dancing along to the tunes, "fill up my cup, mozeltov" "lahaim"

    dam_n great tune hahahahaha

  11. Interesting how far ahead some countries are in this respect. I remember when I was hanging out in Amsterdam 35 years ago people brought their own reusable bags to the food stores.

Don't forget to reuse your Tesco, etc. bags for your trash at home instead of buying special "trash bags" that just add to the problem.

Charging for plastic bags still does not solve the problem with the ones left in the land fill. Recycling is the solutions letting people bring bag their used plastic bags to convenient places for recycling is the answer

Well, by putting a public price on the plastic bags will now make a recycle business of the previously refused plastic bags.

  13. That should go for all then, right? Saxena is called, "Scum, scumbag, ect" he is not even convicted?

You seem to forget something... "guilty until proven innocent." What... is he supposed to have REAL rights?! lol

Indeed, any Thai politician or corporate sleazebag is presumed guilty until proven otherwise. TiT so that's all there is to that.

Those who want to cite the US Constitution or Western law should take a look out their window right now.

Got it? I hope so because you're not looking at the House of Lords or the US Supreme Court.

I this case, all we hear are alleged cases abroad and rumors, he has done this and that!

-Never any case charged or convicted abroad.

Someone here at this forum even said that he just got convicted for not paying +16k for services rendered!

-He was deported before the case was in court.

And in Thailand, he was deported to Thailand from Canada, the prosecutors do not even have a case built up, no concrete charges. Only allegations, how did they even get him deported on allegations?

Thai press and forum member are jumping around with only allegations, where are the court presentations?

How many years they have had to present facts and charges from the prosecutors, still nothing?

  14. Here is some secret information for the MIB,

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Has been there for a long time, when are the special task forces coming? Ohhh all involved have got their shares, so nobody reports it, sorry!

    Corruption at its best.

    edited due to safety, hahahaaha

  15. Do you guys really think that this guy as a foreigner to Thailand was the main reason for the bank fraud? Do you really think that he could as an adviser start this huge scam without the knowledge of the bank directors?

They all was on it and he is the scape coat for the real con masters.
