She incurred the debt from the 3 Rai if land, fill and house, getting masters degree, raising 2 children alone, car, living expenses,  living expenses and books for sophomore in BKK University for science degree ( on scholarship), filling in more land and building carwash. But after 5 years car wash lessee moved or went out of business.   I have no idea about how much the land or house is Worth.  Getting accurate information out if Thai women is like pulling hens teeth.  She   Probably did a fair bit of living above her means.   There is an image thing.  So much socializing fir big wig government workers.

I guess these 3 loans are through the teacher  education co-op or something like that.   Directly deducted from her pay.  The Interest I calculated from payment amount and time period looks to be 6%>. But she says it's variable so didn't give me that bit of standard loan info.   I assume the interest rate is tied to  the national rate or something.       The main loan expires 2045.  The other ones sooner but not soon enough.    She would be like 61 when last loan expires.

She defends herself by telling me all government workers have debt like this.   I told her that is definitely untrue.    So far advice on how bankruptcy works in Thailand.

Nothing adds up to me I think 99% of her side is BS.  Because there is not one mention of mother or father in all this and just the debtor has said she has a uni degree and masters.  Her parents paid for that. Thailand has a very very close family structure. I simply dont believe her. She probably is a salt of the earth women who lost 3 million baht by blowing it somehow. My guess would be on some "easy money" scheme.  I also do not believe there is some technical rule that government workers face all the penalties described.

  2. My kids to to university in California and have been doing this for 3 years now, plus all the times we travelled to the states for holidays. We live in Thailand, so leave Thailand on Thai/arrive USA on US.   Leave US on US/Arrive Thailand on Thai. Never had a problem off either end. In fact they both went alone at 13 to the US for a summer visit and there was not a problem one.

Thai police make up their salary (legally) in receiving 95% of the fine of the ticket issued. The money is pooled with other officers, from their station, who are likely to have office bound jobs. So really no need for the police to request tea money if they were to do their job and issue fines. I suppose by obtaining tea money they get to keep the lot instead of sharing.

Where the heck did you hear that bunch of malarkey? That is just hilarious. Not true in the least. They make up their salary by excepting payments from very small to very big from those who do not want to go to a police station for a variety of reasons...

What? We had a wonderful cool season this year. 3 different stretches from December to mid February with temps below 20.

Yes he knows. I also said to him to return it but he got a bit carried away with himself. He also said one amount was 1000 short. He said to the cashier what it was for and they added the amount straight away without checking in. He said he thought he was being cheated because the first amount wrong was 1000 less then they over corrected by mistake. He also said the rate being shown was higher than the one he was given so he left. He proved that the rate he was given was lower than what they were offering which is why he doesn't want to contact them. He said he would have lost 5400 baht. He was being honest and said because of that he doesn't want to speak to them. Like I said some guy has convinced him there will be repercussions.

From reading this you cant see his is a very dishonest person and is trying to keep the money.  Almost anything he can think up to keep the money he had covered. If he does keep the money he is a thief. One can only hope that he does get stopped and thrown in a Thai jail for a day or two. Simply to see what life is really like.. He needs a shock to wake up. <deleted> would be a good thing to call the guy in question.

Have you sat at a restaurant table as a guest of Thai people who have ordered the food . The food arrives often in a large bowl or platter . The Thai people then launch into the food with their own spoon then into their mouths and back into the food repeatedly .

I must be running with a different crowd of Thai's as I have never encountered this unless on a picnic. In fact I have been admonished for not using the spoon provided to get the food from a communal bowl to my plate.

How do you feel about a drinking fountain?  All those people who have had their mouth near or or it.  I think you have other issues bothering you as well.

  7. Perhaps 10 years minimum. No plans have really even been started. The one most likely to come down up to Nakorn Ratchasima has now slowed to a crawl as the government has now decided that the fast train is too expensive and is looking at slower alternatives... To Hua Hin in reality when pigs fly.

  8. Thai food show for several years now. Very popular on the beaches. Its for the Western crowd. But its nothing to do with cold stone. Its not even ice cream, but its a cold concoction made with some milk and liquid nitrogen cooling the "grill".

I think its quite clever, but it did not look nice enough nor were people raving enough about it to justify a buy... You could see the ice crystals. A big no no in a good ice cream. Besides I only like chocolate....

That can looks like a rebranded version of Cheers.  With the same alcohol content, it wouldn't surprise me.

Nope not at all, I picked up a couple of each. Not the same at all. I liked the Trapper a bit more body than most Thai beers. Going to pick up a few more today
