  1. I guess there is good and bad everywhere and Nigeria is just one example. However, don't forget, the Mafia is Italian.
  2. Didn't Steve Jobs die because he used herbal nonsense to cure his cancer?
  3. Let's hope none of these companies does research into the educational level of Thais.
  4. Not surprised the school threatened to expel him for revealing the truth. They only think of their "reputation". On the upside, the boy's member doubled in size to half an inch.
  5. I used the departure and arrival automatic gates as permanent residents can register their passports (no tourists). Believe me, it is much faster. On the other hand, the automatic gates also have staff standing there to help so it doesn't really free up many immigration police.
  6. The Chinese have been here for generations, and many of the Thai billionaires are of Chinese descent. Some grandads and grannies living near the Hua Lamphong area that I have met don't speak Thai but have been here for 60 years or more. I don't understand why the RTP can't find Chinese speaking graduates. It is a popular language here these days.
  7. Worse, hospital restaurants don't serve healthy food without sugar (though I remember the kluai Nam Thai hospital does but it is very far from home). Was chatting to two management representatives of another well-known hospital and asked why they don't have any restaurants for diabetics and they looked like it had only just been brought up to them for the first time. Mind you, keto food is available in some hospital restaurants my doctor told me. Maybe whoever knows any hospital restaurants that serve healthy food for diabetics they can list here. I may change hospitals as usually before an examination the say don't eat or drink before coming so I feel hungry once the blood/urine tests are done.
  8. Yet another way to extort tourists who don't know the law and thinking if a bar is open it is ok to drink .
  9. I have long felt that if everyone could drink water from the tap it would actually stop the need for plastic bottles and home water filtration. There may be an issue there.
  10. Thailand has historically been cautious of China, which as recently as the 60s and 70s funded a communist insurgency here. Now that their relationship is such that the military needs their assistance, and the government needs their tourists, the local diplomatic mission is flexing its muscles. As Thaksin once said to the nation after being informed the U.N. would look into his war on drugs "The U. N. is not my father" will he or his lackeys say the same to China?
  11. Apparently there is some buyer regret. As for Thailand, it is always a bit behind the West.
  12. While good to read the myths published about EVs, insurance companies are nevertheless increasing premiums for EVs. And no, it isn't just for Tesla cars. This may put people off buying if insurance soars to £5,000 a year. https://www.insurancetimes.co.uk/news/john-lewis-pauses-offering-ev-cover-after-underwriter-decision/1445752.article https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2023/10/10/insurance-costs-could-cripple-european-electric-car-sales/?sh=41991475ae68 https://www.theguardian.com/money/2023/sep/30/the-quotes-were-5000-or-more-electric-vehicle-owners-face-soaring-insurance-costs https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/24350279/drivers-pay-more-insure-evs/#:~:text=Several insurers have begun refusing,Model Y's earlier this year.
  13. All so familiar... Elvis shaking his hips? Lewd. The Rolling Stones? Lazy long-haired layabouts. What goes around comes around.
  14. Slightly to the side of the topic, but counterfeit goods would only start to diminish if Thailand produced its own intellectual property. The, the police and government would really crack down on pirated goods. After all, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton all owned pirated copies of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
  15. The news is very confusing about "Did he, or didn't he?". A doctor could assist by testing whether she is still a virgin. If rape was a capital offence, may on AN would have hung the driver by now.
  16. It would be helpful to understand who are the military threats he is talking about. Honestly, it looks like the southern insurgency is the biggest issue and tanks, submarines and F16s have yet to be used to solve that problem, and never will. The fact that Malaysia allows insurgents to hide in its territory doesn't mean it will declare war any time soon.
  17. As JosephBlogs suggests, a wooden barrier that raises and lowers with flashing lights would stop cars but I can image they won't stop bikes.
  18. If she rejected his advances how explicit could they be?
  19. For goodness sake which century is this?
  20. Most AN respondents don't get one important point - all beers in Thailand are made for Thais not westerners. Alcohol content decreased over 12 years ago to meet the wants of a younger generation of male and female Thais who didn't want to get drunk or fat on 6-7% alcohol (high carb) beer. Asking if they will make a flat, warm beer for Brits is dreaming. As for making a version of Coors, ahem, why?
  21. It's perfectly safe - until it isn't. But will banks return money stolen from an online account? Nope. Like expensive french gateaux it is all bolleaux.
  22. At least no one accused him of smoking weed.
  23. I doubt many political parties would be so strict. Good on them.
  24. I would recommend all genders carry condoms when going to a bar. You are right that pausing does take a few seconds more, and young kids feel their partner doesn't trust them if asked to wear a condom. Having worked with kids born with HIV I do understand that they are often afraid to tell their partner they are infected. Worrying that while the total number of HIV hasn't changed a lot there are more 12-14 year olds getting it than ever.
