  1. It might be an idea to eliminate retirement ages, as opposed to raising the retirement age. There are people like me I am sure who enjoy working and carry on for the fun of it.
  2. The UN and EU forget that the USA has weapons sales targets to meet.
  3. Went to Lopburi once. Vowed never to return due to monkeys trying to snatch everything. Same for Khao Takiab in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Waited while some friends took an elephant ride and didn't notice animal cruelty first-hand, but domesticating wild animals is clearly not a good idea (I am not counting dogs and cats etc., as that ship has sailed) The problem is, Thailand is so dependent on tourism for GDP that the uneducated majority are willing to use elephants as an attraction without really being aware of, or caring about, the problems they cause. Money is king.
  4. It seems they knew Malaysia wouldn't stop them. I wonder why?
  5. Bit like saying, why didn't the Europeans leave America to the native people.
  6. Exactly what they did saying it was the promised land, given to them by their invisible friend in the sky. Palestine was a British protectorate at the time and was dead against giving it to Jews as their Homeland. The Jews there at the time did nothing. David ben Gurion was Polish.
  7. Duh, because prior to 1946 there was just one state that belonged to Palestine. What would one state be called? Greater Israel?
  8. Palestinians seem to think the region belongs to them. Bloody cheek. After thousands of years of ownership why can't they accept that European Jews now own their land? A two state solution means they have to accept their land became someone else's in 1946.
  9. There's a logical explanation, which makes sense if you understand Thai logic. I did a small job for the owner of one of the largest road contractors in Thailand. He explained that if they were to follow the specifications the government gave for building roads they would make a road that would last 10 years before requiring maintenance. As he explained it, that's 10 years without revenue. So they make the roads with below contract quality so that they require maintenance every 6 months and the revenue stream is continuous. Apparently, the government doesn't question it.
  10. Perhaps instead of looking at Thaksin the anti corruption agency could check the assets of the corrections officer who keeps signing off on the extended bed rest. Being unusually rich is still an issue worth examining.
  11. I have the same problem, which is why I only use wired earphones. Why would you keep replacing them?
  12. It is a bit puzzling as the government is talking about income. I have a savings account that is so old money can’t be transferred electronically. So if I go and withdraw it as a cashiers cheque then how do I prove in Thailand that is not income from a job? I doubt the Thai government will do its own research.
  13. Yes, utterly braindead rubbish.
  14. Yes, he went to prison. Three years for fraud. He and his driver were also shot while in his car. Such an arrogant fellow.
  15. It is always a good idea to support allies. While Israel did not officially support its allies militarily in Vietnam or Korea or Iraq (Desert Storm), they sent thoughts and prayers. They have always amply proven that they are true allies and deserve help.
  16. I remember it was Sondhi Limthongkul mainly who closed the airport whole proudly showing off to the press.
  17. The Bank of Thailand perhaps doesn't get the concept of free money, no paying back. It will be difficult to backtrack on this free gift.
  18. Weed seems to be the cause of all violence these days.
  19. Every new government tries to change things. The lack of consistency and longevity always creates failures. The education ministry received a large portion of the budget but the corruption eats up most of it. I know a school that has computers but no electricity to turn them on. Having soldiers and policemen at the helm doesn't help at all.
  20. This is very confusing as all other news reports state homicides in states, not counties.
  21. Tried to delete my reply but AN wouldn't allow that. I did see them mentioned. You were right.
  22. Er, no, they are not. See the list here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Aligned_Movement They are not listed.
  23. People forget that Thailand has been part of the non-aligned movement since 1993. That means it is not supposed to align itself with one country or another against others. Hopefully, it wont get dragged into a war between the USA and Russia, or the USA and China.
