  1. Seems Trump will win if he can keep adding roadblocks and delays until the Republicans take control of the house in January. Unless, of course, there are ten or more Republicans that believe in law and order.
  2. The Indonesia kid with a 40 a day habit strikes me as being a lot worse as he faces lung cancer. What does a bong user face?
  3. A lot of squawking here about not choosing corrupt politicians but zero ideas about who would be a taint-free PM in future. Poor people prefer anyone linked to Thaksin as he has achieved mostly positive changes to help the rural poor. Those village-managed microcredit development funds, low-interest agricultural loans, direct injections of cash into village development funds, infrastructure development, and One Tambon One Product (OTOP). Thaksin's economic policies helped to accelerate Thailand's economic recovery from the 1997 Asian financial crisis and reduced poverty. He balanced the national budget, producing fiscal surpluses for 2003 to 2005. Transparency International reported that Thailand's reputation for transparency among business executives improved during the years of the Thaksin government. He initiated subsidized universal health care and low-cost universal access to anti-retroviral HIV medication. Remember, the coup makers wanted to end the 30 Baht scheme but were prevented by public outcry. Most rich people, westerners included, prefer to remember the war on drugs as the only thing they do remember. Even though his sister Yingluck, was impeached for removing a government person who had been appointed by a former government, she was still admired by ordinary people. Now, the daughter will represent the poor, which means she will be torn down by the rich and powerful. I sometimes wonder why they bother to elect the Shinawatras.
  4. Is there a difference between Legal officers, police and law officers? Must admit I thought they meant law officers but it must be the translation I guess.

  6. Naming Israelis only as not a target ignores American tourists who are at much risk of attack in response to the assassination of Iran’s Soleimani. When America assassinated him, it was warned that retribution would follow one day.
  7. They should crack down on foreign male tourists who are under the impression that Pattaya is the sex capital of the world. Once all those guys are in prison and tourism drops by 90% the government and police can boast of their success. Of course they don't come for the temples. Either industrialize or set up official brothels.
  8. It is time for police generals to declare their assets.
  9. More interesting is that there was no warning. Just an announcement. This should hurt the current government in an election as they will be blamed by the rich, the middle class and the retired. The SET is run like a casino for the small investor but some use it as another way to save and get income from dividends, which is always better than bank savings. They won't be hurt much but will see the government as taking their pension.
  10. By chance, this morning i was reading about a US prison Warden who sexually abused women in prison, including rape. He knew which areas were not watched by video cameras. Apparently while women are a small percent of the inmates, 67% are sexually abused in America. Many don't report it. Not sure if this is the case in Thai prisons but it needs to be investigated.
  11. I assume the OP is not a native language speaker, however, i couldn't understand some of what he or she wrote. In Thailand, most rural homes have a few old shoes outside the door. I have never seen people put a pair outside before shopping. If a relative is visiting Bangkok, someone stays behind to ensure the home isn't robbed.
  12. Traffic jams. More traffic jams ????
  13. Would be good if they find out what caused it and Toyota made a recall to fix this problem,
  14. The Russians were once famous for being hardy. However, their political officers would shoot them on the spot if they failed to attack or run toward the enemy without ammunition. They won through sheers numbers (Stalin had executed the best officers). Let's see if they have the numbers to outlive the Ukrainians,
  15. The Thai cops are an example to Uvalde police how to handle a shooter.
  16. Lucky he wasn't drowned. A recidivist? Practicing Recid is wrong.
  17. If money comes, the red stains matters not, For the key to Thailand is that rubles we got.
  18. My first choice would be to use an HDMI cable to my TV. Saves having to buy a monitor. Windows 10 and 11 will allow you to connect two laptops. Windows 10 Wireless connection On the the device you’re using as a second screen, open Settings Click ‘System, then ‘Projecting this PC’ from the left pane 3. From your main computer, press the Windows Key + P, and click the ‘Connect to a Wireless Display’ link at the bottom. 4. Make sure you have your Wi-Fi turned on for this to work 5. From the options that appear, choose ‘Extend’ 6. Click ‘Connect to a wireless display’, then choose the name of your other laptop when it appears Windows 11 Wireless connection On the device you’re using as a second screen, open Settings and select ‘Apps’ from the left pane Click ‘Optional features’ Click the blue ‘View features’ button In the search bar, type ‘display’ and tick the box next to ‘Wireless Display’ and click ‘Next’ Look for "Wireless display" and tick Click ‘Install’ from the next screen. Wait for it to finish installing, which should only take a few seconds Next, click ‘System’ from the left pane, then scroll down and choose ‘Projecting to this PC’ Adjust the settings here to your liking, striking a balance between security and accessibility. On your main device, hit the Windows Key + P to open projection options, then choose ‘Extend’ Choose your second screen laptop, and the two should now be connected Hope this is helpful.
  19. I guess the Chinese are more aware of what goes on in the western world than we thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they got it from television - though that doesn't mean the Chinese are copying but perhaps feeling more empowered.
  20. I just wonder how they find these numbers. I don't see people counting visitors at the roadside. I doubt whether all small Thai hotels participate in providing data. I cannot imagine roadside noodle stalls counting people. I wish these people would reveal how exactly they counted Thai travelers.
  21. You can burn diesel or you can use electric buses that get their electricity from coal fired plants. There is a lot of natural gas, which of course maybe better than coal, BUT in November 2021, during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, the Thai delegation announced ambitious plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. Five months later, the country is adding four new coal-fired power generators to its grid (to power those electric buses I presume). The cabinet has approved the first two plants, that will have an installed capacity of 660 megawatts. They are scheduled to operate from 2026 to 2050, and will form part of a series of coal-powered generators in the Mae Moh power plant, probably the dirtiest plant in Thailand. As the world increasingly recognizes the need to phase out coal, Thailand looks to be moving toward the fossil fuel. That should make Thailand the hub of CO2. When we read about these electric vehicles being introduced, the first thought should be, where is the electricity coming from?
  22. Amazing attitude to Thai people. Not surprised no one wants to talk to you.
  23. Often wondered why British people retiring in Thailand can't speak Thai. Was here three years and thought that it was time to learn. Bought a book called The Fundamentals of Thai Language. It led me to get jobs for Thai companies and i have no interest in retiring now. Native language speakers have a distinct advantage. Everyone in my current company speaks English but is happy to know i understand when they speak Thai.
