How can he get 51 more votes in one week?

This is his chance to transition from Mr. Rolex to Mr. Sleepyhead.

Police Prepare For Nationwide Protests, Parliament Heavily Guarded
Personally, I don't see much happening as many Thais are disillusioned by the fiasco, They will stay home and feel they tried but the powers that be put an end to that dream. I am hoping that the armchair warriors promoting armed conflict will wheel their armchairs out to parliament.

Anyone else have an irritable wife this morning after election result
Misread the heading as Anyone else have an irritable wife this morning after erection result. My partner kept telling me she just felt exhausted after all the effort put into it and has lost hope.

Thailand is facing a deep political crisis as Pita loses key vote and top court takes up complaints
I was wondering why only royal defamation and not defamation as a whole. I understand that the highest institution is revered here, and many countries have a lese majeste law, but for a member of parliament to say no one should be jailed for defamation opens up a much larger debate. The penalty for defamation in general constitutes imprisonment ranging from one year (Section 326) to two years (Section 328). Journalists are particularly prone to custodial sentences if they "defame" anyone with reporting that damages someone's reputation. A Thai court sentenced a reporter to two years behind bars for criminal libel for a Twitter post about exploitative working conditions at a poultry farm. Remember - it is about making the victim look bad. If only MF had found it interesting that defamation is a criminal offence here, unlike other countries where it is a civil offence.

Thailand: Pita’s loss is Thaksin’s gain
Better for MF to push for another election but this time win all the voters they need for a landslide and don't depend on anyone

Move Forward Party’s Thai PM Candidate Pita Fails First Round of Voting
Better for Move Forward to go into opposition and a minority government take the reigns. Then do their best to force a re-election and win more votes so they don't need to rely on the Senate.

Thai Airways scandal sees corruption charges dropped against ex-PM Thaksin
Well if he had paid the case would have ended 10 years ago, wouldn't it?

Pita’s chance of becoming next prime minister shrinks on eve of Parliamentary vote
Tactically, with Pita out of the way, the junta will be looking to dissolve Move Forward Party next. Supporting a change to 112 has made this a death match. Recordings of their rallies in which they discussed changing 112 could be used to show lese majeste. The People(tm) may demonstrate. The army will shrug its (well-armed) shoulders..

So Thaksin was innocent all along?

Thai private sector braced for impact amid political unrest and government delays
Peta has been very disappointing. Couldn't plan his way out of a paper bag. Best thing to hope for is a minority government then and early election where MF win an overwhelming number of votes.

When living in Thailand what VPN are you using?
NordVPN. Provides ad blocking and malware scanning. With one NordVPN account, you can protect up to six devices. Fast. Extras include double-hop VPN and Onion over VPN (slows it down though). Works out of Panama so pretty neutral. Doesn't keep logs.

EC sends Pita shareholding case to Charter Court
Absolutely. In fact I wonder why his lawyers have not given him better legal advice from the beginning, such as return the shares or give them to the relative his father had instructed him to give them in the will.

EC sends Pita shareholding case to Charter Court
Yes, I see your point but I think they can do so only if it were against the law. For instance, the question was raised whether Pita's books were media. This would make Stephen King/Tomayanti journalists so i don't believe it can be used. Having said that, what else could they find?

EC sends Pita shareholding case to Charter Court
Somehow, not surprised. Having worked with and known personally several government officers, they are frankly afraid of being sued if they don't follow the law, no matter how petty it seems to foreigners. The law states that MPs are not allowed to hold shares in a media company. It doesn't differentiate between 2 shares or 42,000 shares. * Thanathorn ignored this. Banned. * Peta ignored it - off to court. Peta held the shares for many years as an executor. Years during which he could have disbursed them to someone at any time. Finally, he disbursed them this year. As if somehow he just realized the sh*t he was in. If the constitutional court finds him innocent of holding media shares, the court could be in trouble. As many here want to ignore the illegality, perhaps the court will too and everyone will be happy. Personally, I think Peta has been too naive by not understanding that the old guard would check everything about him to find a tool with which to remove him. Footnote: Wikipedia says: There were recent (from 2022) attempts to revive ITV with the aim of attacking Pita. ITV's description was changed from “a holding company principally engaged in the non-financial business” to “television media” in 2022, despite the company being unable to carry out television broadcasts. The description was changed again in 2023 to “advertising media and returns from investments”.

So, tough on staff in private, sweet and polite in public. Typical politician. He should run for president. Um... wait...

Facial recognition - and other Thai banking fiascos!! - YMMV
Off topic but I wonder how many problems for foreigners in Thailand would be solved if those foreigners spoke Thai? In the UK and US locals get angry when hearing people speak foreign languages, "speak American" has appeared in many articles (not condoning racism). I know Thai education is not good so learning the national language makes sense for doing business here.

El Nino will expose Thailand’s lack of defense against climate change: experts
I remember what happened the last time the Democrat Party was in government in 2011 and told the water authorities not to release dam water. This was just before Yingluck took over. Maybe a coincidence. Now the junta is leaving office just as a new government enters office.

Surprised her mum never asked where she got all that money, and never wondered why she was high all the time.

Plan is to rally parliament behind the people’s will to elect Pita Limjaroenrat as Prime Minister
Hoping MF will not rely on the constitution alone to end coups but create a law stating the death penalty for coup makers. Then another dozen laws regarding misuse of state funds (the military belongs to the state) and ancillary laws that can’t be quashed easily.

Outgoing Thai PM found guilty of neglect of duty over PM2.5 pollution
Met Prayut once to ask (together with many others) for him to take action on waste management. He got upset and declared, “Don’t you know, I’ve got a country to build!”

Ex-DSI chief Tarit resorts to Charter Court to delay reading of verdict
He is accused of malfeasance. The article makes no attempt to explain further what the articles mean is unhelpful.
