  1. Just change the word Chinese for British or English and the case is the same. How many western expats speak Thai (no need to sound offended if you do), and how many go for an English breakfast still? Moreover, Thais sometimes don't know which of their dishes are originally Chinese, or Chinese influenced, like Ba Mii (บะหมี่) clear egg noodle soup, Khanom Jiin (ขนมจีน) fermented rice noodles with curry sauce accompaniments, Guay Chap (ก๋วยจั๊บ) a pork flavoured soup and Guay Tiaw (ก๋วยเตี๋ยว), Jok (โจ๊ก), a rice porridge called congee sometimes, Salapao (ซาลาเปา), steamed buns and Khao Kha Moo (ข้าวขาหมู), fragrant stewed pork with rice.
  2. How can Parliament wait until May 2024 without a prime minister? Announce an interim PM maybe? Maybe possible as Belgium went 592 days without a government at all so I guess it could happen. But the entire period will see more cases against MF that may lead to its dissolution.
  3. Look at the profits oil companies made and the profits of a Line motorcycle messenger I guess. ????
  4. Shell, Exxon and BP are all backing away from the goals to reduce carbon they once trumpeted as they made record profits last year. It is all about money, so tax them more for not driving the switch to alternative energy.
  5. I'm sure many will say it is all fake news.
  6. Thailand is becoming a place where diabetes skyrocketed and people don't know they should test for it. The habit of putting sugar in all foods and drinks is one cause. It is really hard to find food in supermarkets without sugar or salt. I doubt whether the meeting will solve this - note the emphasis on money, not results.
  7. A lot of Thais are useless with money. I assume she thought she could return it. Use an agent as suggested by others.
  8. I doubt anyone cares except for the people whose job it is to help immigrants.
  9. Most get a minimum 6 days of paid vacation in Thailand. The government holidays compensate for that.
  10. Are you sure the senate will change its mind? Can't win without them.
  11. Hard to raise tax-to-GDP rates when many don't pay the tax in place at the moment.
  12. The tanks are fueled, the guns are loaded. Just waiting for an excuse.
  13. Renominated but rejected by the Senate. What's changed?
  14. If I remember correctly, Britain also embargoed Germany in WWII. The U.S. has called them sanctions ever since. Just surprised the Russians hadn't done this earlier.
  15. Credit card companies can cancel credit and debit cards, but they won't. What happens if they keep allowing people to use the cards who can't afford to repay? Are they looking at the interest rates they charge and think they can make a bundle? Not if people default and they get zero.
  16. Best plan is to call a new election asap. This time win by a landslide. Some news agencies claim MF wants to scrap 112. Better start clarifying that is not the case.
  17. Every time some idiot with orange hair says use the death penalty. I remember that since 1973, at least 190 people who had been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S. have been exonerated after it was too late. Maybe the number seems low but what if your father, mother, son or daughter were wrongly executed? Feel good?
  18. The next election, lets see if MF can get 370 seats.
  19. Brilliant. Just what the generals need, a provocation to take over the country for another 10 years.
  20. If you go into a bank with a driving licence they won't open a new account without a passport. It may not be the law but they have their own rules. The problem would be if the OP went into a bank and demanded they accept some other form of ID. "A guy called Lucky Bones told me" isn't going to cut it unfortunately.
  21. They say it is the law. I made a recommendation of passport or photocopy. You may not have been here long enough to know that the police don't care. They ask for passports. You can argue "I know the law" but they have a reputation for asking for a passport. I just came from the bank and the passport was the first thing they asked for. I showed my pink card but they took the passport as it was used and registered with them when I opened the account. My recommendation is always carry the passport or a photocopy. The embassy recommendation too.
  22. As embassies also recommend carrying your passport or a photocopy I don't understand why you deny this.
  23. Appears that they don’t enjoy meeting real voters.
  24. Seems people who have been here a while know what to do. https://www.richardbarrow.com/2013/08/always-carry-your-passport-or-a-copy-while-in-thailand/ read the identification paragraph near the bottom. https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/thailand
