  1. When I apply for my marriage extension I usually go 2 weeks before the current one expires.

I am then stamped as under consideration for 30 days, that's 2 weeks after my current extension has expired.

I go back to the IO to receive my new extension according to the date stamp to return for it.

I then receive my new extension for another year which starts and finishes on the dates of the previous one.

    What proof do they need?

When my proof of life form came to me here I had to get signed and with a official stamp.

I went to Pattaya beach road police station where there is a officer who is assigned to do this and paid 200 baht plus a tip.

He duly completed the relevant section on the form in English and plonked the official Thai police stamp under his signature.

Lawyers, doctors etc can also do this if you can find one.

DWP send out the proof of life forms at random to your official address you registered with them, there is a time limit for you to respond, no response and your pension payments are stopped.

  3. Proper legal marriage in Thailand is recognised by the UK.

There is no requirement as I understand it to register it with the UK government.

I have registered my legal Thai marriage with my company pension provider because my wife is entitled to 50% of it per month when I die.

This is also included in my Thai will along with my UK bank accounts.

I've renewed my passport since my last 1 year extension, and had all my stamps transferred by immigration. Today I went to Songkhla Immigration (Hat Yai) to renew my extension, as I was assembling my documents this morning I thought, will they want the old passport? I put it in just in case, lucky I did as they requested it, and copied all the pages from the last entry on my original visa.

Is this normal and will it be a continued requirement going forward?

I had to give them my old passport last year too because it contains my last entry into Thailand in 2020, which ties in with the white arrival card stapled into the new one.

Thailand and Thais have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot, never look a gift horse in the mouth it might kick you and spoil your day.

They are going to try and tax money I bring into this country every year, I won't be liable for tax in thailand but its the extra hoops I'm going to have to jump through just to show that, they think trying to tax retires will earn them billions - they really haven't thought it through

The Thai never think anything through it just knee jerk after knee jerk, mumbo jumbo statement after mumbo jumbo statement...
