  1. True. I remember a hamburger costing 19 baht, a cheeseburger 22 baht, and a Big Mac less than 50 baht. That was less than 10 years ago. (In comparison, you can often get burgers in Hong Kong for 10 HK$/40 baht.) McDonald's in Thailand nowadays seems to target more the middle class, with many restaurants usually not too busy.
  2. I always wonder why products from the UK are usually quite a bit more expensive in Asia (e.g. in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong), compared to imported goods from other European countries, the U.S., or Down Under.
  3. I remember that it was very popular among school kids in the early 2000s too, till there was a crackdown.
  4. That's why I put it in quotation marks. ???? Meaning, it won't be considered, as it comes from across the border, otherwise some officials would probably think about promoting it too... ????
  5. What happened to good ol' yaba? - Oh yes, can't be "grown" in Thailand, so, at this time, not considered...
  6. Supply and demand, lack of competition (of imported avocadoes)? As long as people pay that much for avocadoes, why should they be cheaper?
  7. Will depend who gives the bigger brown envelope, the ex-president or Sri Lankans who want him back. Money is #1 in this "Buddhist" country...
  8. More and more beggars, and people just 'hanging around' with no jobs, more and more people moving from Bangkok back upcountry, yes, I totally believe such a report. They probably did the survey among the 100 richest families...
  9. Rather than 'shutting down' piece by piece, why don't they just disolve the business?
  10. If she has... (She'll certainly say that she has!) Also, wonder why the cops needed 7 years to catch her.
  11. Just downloaded the Wise app on my phone. - The following questions came up... 1. Why is there no 'Thai baht' option, but instead only the remark: "When they go life you'll be the first to know."? 2. How can I transfer or receive Thai baht? 3. How can I transfer to overseas recipients (e.g. AUS, NZ, Malaysia)? 4. What does 'Account number', 'IBAN/SWIFT', etc., in 'Account details' mean? - Can I only receive that currency if I have a bank account in that country/region, e.g. US$ only with a bank account there? 5. How does receiving money in my bank account or debit card (as opposed to Wise app) work?
  12. I will have a stopover in Singapore in September (ca. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., not incl. travel to the city centre, so, 12 hours...). - What are the 'must see and do' things there?
