  1. Everything is used in order to make a quick buck in this "Buddhist" country...
  2. Saw that too. Chinese family of four spends the day at a mall, but, instead of buying food at the food court, or one of the dozens of restaurants, they bring and carry around their lunch in tupperware.
  3. Damn. Billionaires; exactly the kind of tourists Thailand is vying for. If it hadn't been for the overlord party poopers who wanted them back...
  4. Fair enough. The boss already went to Cambodia...
  5. A few Vietnamese were recently busted for illegally selling food (and were prominently mentioned in the media), and I met a number of Vietnamese girls online, who came here to do, well, let's call it 'social work' that doesn't officially exist in Thailand... I doubt that any of them came as 'contract workers' here, but most probably as tourists.
  6. True. Back home the brand 'Thailand' lost appeal years ago, and high living and flight costs don't help either. The country seems to become popular with single Indians and Russians (for very different reasons) though, so, if they are smart and don't just bet on China, they might get lucky with short-haul tourists.
  7. That's like saying: "Thai households will stop amassing debt..."
  8. Thailand had a good run with 28 million or so tourists this year. Attracting 39 million again won't be easy. Probably not achievable in 2024 either.
  9. And? With all the cameras around, didn't they find out about the license plate? (Works when there's a robbery...)
  10. Interesting. I'll read up on that.
  11. Yes, I know Thais who don't know the difference between King Mongkut and Mang-Kut (mangosteen)...
  12. The thing is that in Thailand and also other Asian countries not the Hindu version is used, but very often the Nazi one... (I know many Thais who adore Hitler and Nazis.) As for the 'wrong' direction in other countries (e.g. Malaysia), who knows...
  13. I was very surprised to see Nazi swastikas in Kuala Lumpur recently. As there are many Indian-Malaysians living there, I would have expected to see the Hindu version, but no, they really pointed to the 'wrong' side Nazi style.
  14. Not surprised in a country where parents name their kids Hitler, or Nazi... https://thethaiger.com/news/national/should-you-name-your-baby-hitler-nazi-the-n-word
  15. And I thought many tourists came from neighbouring countries... My guess is that most Malaysians do not come here for a beach holiday.
  16. He probably expected to be pardoned within 72 hours.
  17. Taxi drivers seem to be recruited from the bottom of the barrel... I remember, 20 years ago, they were friendly, didn't refuse as many passengers, and could even hold a simple conversation in English! - Nowadays, many taxi drivers seem to come right from a farm, don't know Bangkok, or routes, and, despite GPS and smartphone, seem to have trouble finding destinations. They can't understand a word of English, don't lift a finger to help with luggage, and sit behind the wheel like zombies...
  18. Why tip if the driver doesn't help with the luggage? My experience is that taxi drivers usually want to 'take the highway' if the destination is not close, which often makes the distance longer (even though it circumvents jams). As for "location is difficult for a regular taxi to reach", what does that even mean; that drivers don't have knowledge how to get from A to B, which, in many countries, is required to get a taxi license? Not only do drivers ask the passengers for the way, but they also do not speak or understand English. Thank god there's Grab and Bolt these days...
  19. Nothing on my weather app, besides some 'rain' around 5 p.m. today.
  20. Thailand loves the Chinese, esp. Chinese tour groups, with which a handful of Thais can make big business... What's the news?
  21. Cast of "The Sopranos"?
  22. What the military government didn't do, the "democratic" one will...
