  1. Yes, three of my Thai neighbours told me that they were each 15,500 baht (1.084 trillion : 70 million) richer now (or was it 15,500 baht more in debt?)... Well, big numbers!
  2. Maybe she told him she'd only be away for a couple days, but never came back.
  3. What would be the odds that she was hired by the TAT...
  4. LOL. Nothing about stealing. Just a stupid vendor who couldn't remember giving back money just a moment ago, so she gave it (first the customer's banknote, then change) back twice. Vendor at fault, unlike common scams in Thailand: charging an extra item which customer didn't buy (and not giving a receipt, 7-Eleven), or intentionally giving wrong change (Lotus's, banks...)
  5. Well, political insecurity, limited freedom, unliked jobs, chronically and above-head indebtedness (just to name a few)... - Funnily enough, a couple weeks ago, I went swimming, and a Thai bloke said to me: "I like how you're smiling." Took me aback at first, but then I thought, well, I'm doing okay, so being contented, I was smiling just because I felt good, and it had nothing to do with other people.
  6. Yes, smiles from Thai people were much more common 20 years ago, but have steadily decreased since then. Not just younger people smile much less, but older ones too.
  7. A smile in Thailand is more about social interaction and status, not necessarily about 'friendliness'.
  8. Problem is that Immigration will neither accept a balance spread over 17 bank accounts, nor keeping the sum in your home country.
  9. If they waived visa fees, but still not many came, they'd have to find other factors to blame.
  10. 'July 31' was mentioned. But, personally, I was disappointed not seeing any pics of a reenactment, and finger-pointing. A nice styrofoam board showing details of the crime would have been nice too.
  11. Lots of Indian travellers already, but many 'ifs' to even get half the 2019 number of Chinese tourists. With many in China cash-strapped, perhaps Thailand could offer them all-paid-for zero-dollar-tours*.... (*Beware: sarcasm!)
  12. What's the latest dreamed-up total? "85%" of 39 million (2019) = 33.15 million? - So, where are the remaining 25.15 million supposed to come from? Still not many Chinese coming, so, perhaps half (12.6 million) from Oz, and the "rest" from Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives?
  13. So, if numbers are still (well) below those in 2019, was there 'overcrowding' back then, and, if yes, what have they done in the four years since then? Or did they expect the pandemic to go on forever?
  14. Same in Bangkok. Often "heavy rain" announced, but then, at best, we get 10 min. of drizzle rain...
  15. This 'mafioso' looks pretty strange in the pic, like wearing a mask, or, possibly, having half his face covered in whitening cream...
  16. Damn foreigners Not to mention that 'intimidating tourists' is a job description reserved for Thai taxi drivers, cops, etc.
  17. Slightly off-topic, I just read in "The Thai***" that Bangkok, according to a survey, has been voted "The digital nomad's #1 destination", so, where can I apply for a 'digital nomad visa'? LOL
  18. I was wondering about that too. So, either it was an outbound flight via Bangkok, or he didn't have the overstay fine in cash at hand. Makes you wonder, whether the mantra 'turn up at the airport and you will be fine' even applies to airports like Phuket, or only to the Bangkok airports...
  19. Wrong. The deciding factor is actually your scheduled flight departure, not when you walk through Immigration. - I made that mistake once when my flight out was shortly after midnight. I thought passing through Immigration at 11 p.m. would be safe. However, I got a stamp '1 day overstay' into my passport. (No charge for 1 day overstay at the airport though.)
  20. That always confused me. Those people not only pretend to be tolerant, and want to be treated "equally", but, at the same time, they only accept one opinion, theirs! Not to mention that they want their own privileges.
  21. And the ripp-offs just after arriving, e.g. taxis not using meters... (Well, maybe that's why many Chinese tourists are bussed around so that they aren't scammed right after arrival.)
  22. I watched some reports on YouTube recently saying that Spain is currently pretty expensive, esp. the hotels.
  23. Anyone expecting me to call them, i.e. only one person, 'they' or 'them', would hear from me: "We (l) don't do that."
