For me, we have a Wave, a N-max and planning to get a lower capacity "proper" bike when the new models come through e.g. if we get the CB350H, or RE 350 Interceptor or maybe the existing RE Meteor...

forgot to mention the Yamaha XSR300, can't find any availability details for Thailand yet but it's supposed to be imminent as well. The current 155 is a nice little machine if that's enough cc for you.

  2. Does anyone know a decent watch repair shop or "little-geeza", that is still functioning, who can do a reasonably priced repair on a quartz watch?

It's not an expensive watch, I could replace it, like for like, for £200 second hand but it does have sentimental value and is a favourite in the watch drawer.

It's a Tissot that needs replacement hour and minute hands and a new battery retainer.

A Bangkok place would be ok if they speak good English and can operate via post and phone.

At a push I could even do the repair myself if given the parts.

  3. I've ridden all sorts of bikes over 35 years, 7 of those here.

Although the Clicks are great for carrying stuff they are also uncomfortable, heavy for the type and handle poorly on bad surfaces. Skinny wheels, flex in the frame and the "granny" seating position are not nice.

The Yammy equivalent gtx is a little lighter and slightly more nimble. Of the step through type the Grand Filano is the best compromise.

For riding comfort I prefer the PCX/N-Max, still agile around town, more stable, broader tyres plus a smidge more power for getting away from potential sticky moments and much smoother at speed.

Half way between the two are the semi automatic Waves and similar. Amazing value for what you get, if looked after or even abused for that matter, they go on forever and are much more fun than the step through.

  4. I was looking at the possible launch of the Honda CB350 Hness and RE 350 Meteor in Thailand next year.

Most details are coming from India, where they are both on the road already. Unfortunately you also see the Indian prices, roughly half that intended for the Thai market!

There is talk of them being assembled/semi-assembled here but no mention of improved pricing...

  5. All our open light fittings have LED bulbs, Panasonic have worked best for us.

For sealed fittings, like the fan domed downlighters, we've found the little spiral energy savers, like crossy pictured, to be best.

Earthing is another issue, if the lamp fitting has the provision for it then it should be connected. Something that is still rare in Thai properties, especially the lighting circuits.

Some of the actual ES fittings can be pretty nasty too, easily rusting or breaking their feeble connections to life when changing bulbs. Change these connectors to something decent or junk the entire lamp and buy better quality.

  6. Thanks for the answers.

The SATA brand looks a dead ringer for Kamasa, which are decent enough.

The Euro King tools I've met before and they really don't last or put up with any force, had half a spanner head break clean off with only hefty, bare hand effort.

Had to research King Tony which seems to have a good rep. A coin flip between these and Sata....

  7. The time has come to purchase a metric, half inch drive, socket set.

Major preference for Hex over multi-tooth.

Not looking for uber quality but don't recognise the brands sold here. Use will be for bicycle and old scooter maintenance mainly.

The in store prices seem a bit nuts, Lazada has prices all over the place for the same items making it difficult to judge their possible quality grade.

As a guide I used to have a Halfords set (lost during move) that was very long lasting, only breaking one socket due to my own misuse.

    What's good value out there?

  8. Phuket is very nice right now. Yes the night spots are seriously thinned out but without tourists what do you expect.

Plenty still around for the reduced number of visitors. Good deals everywhere , hotels, eateries, clubs etc.

Phuket town is good, you can get around easily and go to all the places you avoided before because of weight of traffic and hordes of £¥€$.

  9. Phwor,  gotta try Marmite Guinness!

There is also Marmite Cheese, although I think V'mite did that first.

Marmite deffo stronger than V'mite but latter ok too.

British beer, of course it's the best, another empire building tonic the colonials and ROW are denied, so there! After learning some had escaped to Europe, we're cutting ties.

Tizer, tried recently and agree it's not the same as memory.

    IrnBru, not tried for eons.

    Vimto, error, no thanks.

Cream soda, not keen but love the Marinda Green Cream Soda.

Anyone remember "Quatro" tropical fruit drink, it was great and dumped on Lilt from a great height. Sadly gone.

No visitors = no good stuff ????

  10. That's a shame.

On Chromecast it works well although I will state the TV used is not a large screen type (32") so the observation by Amplish

should be considered if using large screens. (Did try on a 40" and still looked good to me)

  11. Your TV must either be "smart", have built in Chromecast or be able to accept a separate Chromecast unit ( HDMI & USB sockets, HDMI essential ).

You then download the 3BB Member app. to your smartphone. Select English and proceed to create your account on the app

At this point it is wise to set up the Chromecast if not done before, including the Google Home app for your phone. Once done you then install the HBO app. (select HBO from the within the 3BB app, it gives you correct instructions on the very quick set up). After that yoi simply cast your HBO content from your smart phone to your TV. There are two more channels, MonoMax which is similar to HBO but has Thai subtitles on everything and sets up the same way. Then there's Eko which is a fully Thai streamer.

For 39THB a month it's a no brainer if you don't already have TV streamer.

There is higher package that gives a full "on demand" facility.

  12. Have you done a proof of residence before i.e. you have the slip stapled into your passport?

If yes you only need the usual pertinent copy pages from your passport, as long as nothing has changed since your previous proof slip to obtain a new proof of residence.

I was given the same malarkey as the OP by the "guys on the right hand side". Another officer from "the left hand side" intervened and overruled the other IO. He even apologised for the first guys "incorrect demands". I then had my new proof of residence in about 2 minutes.

My experience is far from unique according to many other "victims" of the-right-hand-side ????

  13. Went yesterday to Phuket office and was told the same " from today " extension.

I showed the IO the from27th announcement, she got huffy and said it wasn't real!

As the "from today" still fits my needs I rolled with it rather than risking the wrath of the IO, especially as she had swallowed my excuse for not having a Kor Ror 22.

  14. Went to my local Amphoe to obtain a Kor Ror 22 ( married outside Thailand...UK 1996).

It was my understanding that all I needed was the original UK certificate and copy, all the usual ID for myself and wifey and all would be good.

However, Amphoe want an official translation of the marriage certificate stamped by the British consulate.

I thought original certs in English were exempt from that requirement.

Plus the UK embassy doesn't do it, I have apply to the UK home office and Thai consulate in the UK to get it.

Which version is correct, it's driving me nuts with every dept. saying something different.
