Since Thailand is the world's no.1 for traffic fatalities, and 75% of those are motorcyclist, there is a certain logic in preferring to ride on the pavements (or sidewalks for the colonial cousins), where the worst that likely to happen is a punch on the nose from an irritated farang (the local don't seem too bothered by it).. A good reason to wear a decent full-face helmet to reduce this risk.

Well on the phone yesterday they said that they WILL NOT STOP PROVIDING IT LIKE EVER however they may change the document itself way off in the distant future but there are absolutely NO PLANS to completely stop providing this service as the British Embassy is doing.  They said on the phone yesterday that it’s just a British Embassy policy ONLY, NOT A United States Embassy policy.  So actually no there really isn’t anything to worry about even if they do change the document in the distant future as they said on the phone yesterday MIGHT HAPPEN THEY WILL STILL BE PROVIDING IT NOW AND FOREVER at least for the foreseeable future anyway but who knows what will happen 5 to 10 years from now everything changes with time.  I could be dead in 10 years for all I know so don’t worry about it they aren’t going to stop providing it even if they do make changes and that information came from the United States Embassy so no actually it’s not to worry.  If you’re a British citizen you should be concerned next year.

Tell the UK Embassy to announce the l are running for PM in the next election..l need media coverage please.

See the attached email from the United States Embassy I also spoke to them on the phone yesterday and I was told that there are absolutely NO PLANS for the United States Embassy to stop providing this service, now someone please tell the British Embassy to please speak for themselves only and not us!!!!  They say there maybe changes way off in the distant future but they are not going to totally stop providing the proof of income affidavit service at all the British Embassy is wrong and they obviously don’t know what they are talking about and clearly don’t know what they are doing based on the position they are putting their own citizens in.  British Embassy speak for yourself and you ought to be ashamed of yourselves for putting your citizens in the position you’re putting them in it’s absolutely unacceptable.  If I were a British citizen I’d be extremely angry.

Additionally I also went and spoke to immigration in person this morning and this policy of the British government has absolutely nothing to do with Thai immigration.  Thai Immigration has NOT changed their policy regarding acception of the proof of income affidavit and that information came directly from an immigration supervisor I spoke to in person this morning!!!  So please everyone stop the rumor mill and focus on these actual facts.  United States citizens we have nothing to worry about it is confirmed by the United States Embassy and I’ve even attached their email I received from them this morning!!!  I can only tell you about my phone call with them yesterday.  I hope this helps squash all of the misinformation going around online....

As I said yesterday the UK Embassy should stop representing other countries and concentrate on mad May and the citizens

Why do people order food and have it delivered to their homes when they could walk 500 meters in any direction and find loads of restaurants (and cheaper prices) ?

Some like variety. Some like the "no hassle" browsing where you can (usually) view dozens of profiles without constantly being pestered to buy them drinks (and drinks for their "sisters"). Some are maybe just tired of the "bar scene" and as we know, some really, really hate paying a bar fine even though they want to take a girl out of the bar for the rest of the night.

If I walk to the main road near my home and turn one way, there are a couple (4 ?) "beer bars" one way - one of which is a "biker bar" and most of the girls have boyfriends in that motorcycle club.
If I walk 500 meters the other way I will go past a couple dozen small "shophouse" beer bars. I stopped at a couple some time ago, just wanting to have a quiet drink (I don't drink at home when I'm alone). Before the first drink arrives you literally have the entire staff of the bar sitting around you and you barely get a chance to take a sip before they are trying to get you to buy them drinks as well (after all, you are using up their time - even though you didn't ask them to join you and they were all just sitting around with their noses glued to their phones).
Each time it happened I just checked the bin, put the money in the cup, chugged my (Jack-Coke) and walked out. Quite frankly, the Jack-Coke was the most attractive thing in those places as well.

I haven't met anyone on any of those dating sites (I think I've looked at a grand total of 2 of them) as I suspected that most of the profiles were fake. I actually only looked at the first site because I'd met a girl on Facebook (she was a friend of someone I was friends with and sent me a friend request). She told me she had a profile on one site so I looked her up.
Then, out of curiosity I clicked on another site I saw promoted on another site. Browsed a couple of pages and lo and behold what did I see ?

The same girl had a profile on that site as well. Different name but the exact same pics. Literally the entire profile was identical to what she had on the other site except for her username - and age (she had magically gotten 2 years younger on the second site). Never talked to her again after that (because I'm sure she was still lying about her age, even on the "younger" profile).

Once in awhile I might browse one site - I figure one day I'll see someone I know on there. I don't visit very often though as what usually happens is within minutes of logging in I start getting "likes" and messages from a lot of women in their 40s and 50s from all over the country.
(Yes, there are a lot of "real" women that are also browsing those sites. Most of them are probably nice and honest. Most of them wouldn't be able to get a job in even the cheapest beer bar though.)

There are a lot of attractive women listed, more attractive than can be found in your average beer bar and with less hassles than your average beer bar.

That is why I think there are probably a lot of guys surfing those types of sites - instead of walking 500 meters down the road and then returning home disappointed. Again.

All ratty edited pics and all want money

No it doesn't.  The proof the British Embassy is talking about is incoming transfer info to Thai bank accounts from extension applicants that they seem to think is going to satisfy Thai Immigration in terms of proving monthly income.

The British Embassy is saying they're getting out of the income letters business, period. They're saying it's going to be up to the extension applicants to prove their monthly income directly to Thai Immigration.

    Better just sell the embassy

They have just recently introduced a clampdown on long-stay foreigners, introduced mandatory work permits and stopped the 12 month multi-entry visa being readily available for anyone with money.

No cakewalk in Cambo any more either, although still easier than Thailand.

If you are a US citizen Mexico is worth a look.  Plenty of nice safe reasonable resort towns and just for arriving at the airport you get a 6 month visitor pass.  No 90 day reports or location reports etc.  I went to MX last year in the early winter before I came to Thailand.  This year I am not sure I am going to visit thailand at all.  My retirement visa is just about to expire and I have already had a terrible reception at the big immigration place in bkk the last time I tried to renew it.  I ended up returning to Chicago and having the consulate do it.  I could use the extra money I wasted to enjoy nicer digs and food in MX.

We are not welcome.  The powers that be think an endless supply of wealthy tourist staying in 5 star hotels and eating at 5 star restaurants and taking limos to medical tourism (butt, boob and face lifts) and then buying some expensive jewelry and renting a villa by the ocean for a month before concluding their holiday is available to them.  Let them recruit these people then.  Those high spending high quality tourist will make the thai tourism industry really blossom.

My regular hotel rental every winter and health club membership and touring about the country and shopping evidently is not valuable enough.

Patients the regime will not last the elections

Believe me l speak Thai and so many Thais want them gone. All that Isan promotion was a show. Staged paid up. Come elections they jump ship
