So why are you trying to suggest in your posts that she will have a problem in relation to it?

Out of curiosity, what is "a Shiela"?

There will be a problem if she is not aware of the problem. Ignorance cant be an excuse.

Shiela is a name. She is an ignoramus like myself who is trying to suggest to folks like your good self that she wants to know things before she is called out or fined.

The TM30 etc seemed to her to have been a precursor to more baffling things to come until I said lets find out all about it over here.:signthaivisa:

The lack of a re-entry permit is never going to cause anyone to be fined, or "called", as she refers to it, and that is what she wrongly thinks will cause a problem.

The Shiela I am doing this for will have no use for re-entry permits because she is Indian and for all her runs she will only get 7 days to leave the country.

I mostly agree. However, if not aware of the requirements for an extension, difficulties can arise. That is especially true for people from countries like India where you cannot simply hop across the border and get a new visa in a neighboring country. For instance, failing to have funds in the bank for long enough when applying for an extension can lead to major complications.

There is no need to worry as long as (unlike too many poor souls) you know when it is needed.

Re the underlined, does this mean one must have a bank account in Thailand and season funds before applying for an extension of visa. But what if the extension needs to be applied before the seasoning period has been achieved ( three months or something?).

  4. In all my visits to the Kingdom as a tourist I have never been asked questions. I have never had to go to the immigration office of course for form submission. Maybe I would know when I do what a fantastic learning experience I had been missing so far. Visiting this site would just give one the chance to let off steam or to rag sombody like myself to embarrassment.

  5. I dont tire of saying this but consulates embassies immigration must create a booklet to give these bits of information, to-do's, before she enters the Kingdom otherwise she will never know.  The acknowledgement chits she receives from immigration I am told she would be best advised to staple on her passport so that she does not lose them. I have never been good at stapling things.

The cardinal rule, if not absolutely sure, is to check with your local immigration office. There is no single set of requirements that applies regardless of where you are staying.

As long as the immigration officials she speaks to can converse in English, that will be fine. But if they are overworked, I dont see it is going to be easy for a Shiela to know what else she needs to do. But your advice is helpful as always. I will badger them with all my questions, wait after they clock off and seriously befriend some.

  7. The inquirer as far as this topic is concerned is visiting Thailand on a non-tourist visa. I dont think it matters whether she is on a non o visa or a non b visa. Information about the official duties she will have to perform like filing TM30, 28, etc, on time, she will not be told about by immigration before entering the Kingdom making her susceptible to being called out and fined. I think personally that is a very worrying thing.

No need to worry at all if in Bangkok within CW's jurisdiction.

If staying in a hotel on first-arrival, you don't have to worry about this - they are responsible.

For longer-term stays, make arrangements with land-lord before signing lease - as a condition of signing.  Find out from your local immigration office what the landlord and/or you will need to do, first.

In my case accommodation is part of the compensation and is free ( will be staying with my folks).

  9. When you move residence, you have to fill up the TM28 form ( No 27 in the post below) and submit it to the immigration office of the province you have moved to. I guess this form too needs the housemaster's endorsement on it like in the TM30 ( No30 in the post below). I guess before 24 hours of moving or else there is a fine. I dont know whether like the TM30 not all immigration offices in the Kingdom enforce the TM28 rule.

  10. Somebody who only knows that she needs a visa to arrive and who has not heard of this website is in for defaults 'for no fault of her own' when she arrives in Thailand on a non-tourist visa.

She must know what a TM30 is, for example.

I felt that all that she needed to know should be in one place rather than dispersed across posts.

    So have started this topic.

I am making a list of things I need to know before I arrive when I do.

My learnings are shared here without attribution therefore please dont thank me for anything you learn here.

    Thanks!

    Dear OP,
The phones are normally only on Cell 5 and in the private cells (detainees fighting and delaying extradition but sit on millions of Baht). Their is a strong chance that your BF did made the call from Cell 5 but because he didn't had any funds they moved him to Cell 2 or 3 which is hell compared to 5. In cell 2 or 3 are no chances of making another phone call and those detainees have no visitors, no extra food and have no funds to buy even a ticket. Some have been in for years and some didn't even made it.

The consulate should be your first option but I would try to call the IDC and my second option would be the UNHCR under +662 056 0000. Give the officer at IDC on the phone the full name, date of birth, passport number, citizenship and tell them you call from Europe to find out more so that you are able to assist and get him out of the mess. The second option would be the UNHCR, especially for countries such as Rwanda, Sudan, etc.

If it has been confirmed that your BF is in IDC, buy him a prepaid Visa or Mastercard and put a 100 Euros on it and send it to him via express without the PIN. He will be able to call you again to get the PIN.

    All the best !!

    Some research this!

How helpful are the folks at the UNHCR, would you know? Can somebody from that agency go along with him?

Giving him a prepaid card with 100 euros on it after he has got out, right, to buy some food and coffee in the airport lounge? He hasnt called since, dont know why.

And to comment on the common practice of accepting the visa application with fee in India, Pakistan, etc but then not issuing a usable visa without reason....I'm surprised there isn't more of an uproar about this.  Sounds like a scam or corruption that runs deep.   Do other [country's] consulates in those regions operate similarly?

This is what I have been getting at. You said it! You think the VOID stickers is part of a scam, dont you? Of course there is an uproar among millions of uproars. Nothing gets done until sunset.

Why pay an agent to look at the passport since he cannot do any more than that other than helping with the paperwork.

The OP will have to do the application himself at the embassy.

I wont mind paying an agent who will take a closer look at the documents for me. I am all of 18 and on my own and I dont want to hear someone suggesting I went to Bali instead to do this video :-) But honestly, Joe, why do you want him to reapply for a Tourist visa when he will be working in the Kingdom??
