  1. Hm, yes you may be right, but I didn't want to be on hold for half an hour with the airline. That's exactly what happened with Turkish and when I finally did get an agent, they told me that only my vaccination certificate is needed and no test. From reading on this forum, I gathered that for my flight on Vietjet CNX to BKK no test is needed either.
  2. Hello, I will be flying soon from CNX on Vietjet to BKK and then Turkish to Germany. From my research I do not need a Covid test on either airline since I am fully vaccinated. Is that correct? What are your experiences?
  3. As far as I remember, the speed of transfer for FTT transfers has a lot to do with the time of day it is being initiated. I think the cut off time for same day international FTT transfers is either noon or 2pm Thai time, probably noon. So if you are an early bird the FTT will probably arrive same day, maybe even within seconds, and if you are doing your transfers in the afternoon, the FTT transfer will arrive the next day. With FTT I mean transfers for the purpose of long term stay, which you have to give as a purpose in one of the last steps before initiating the transfer. In a Bangkok Bank savings account this will then be marked FTT, other banks may mark it differently. Another thing I noticed affecting transfer duration is the amount: Higher amounts may take longer, smaller amounts go through quicker. I believe this has somehow to do with Wise's matching algorithm, because they try to match in- and outgoing transfers to save on the conversion rate. If they have similar amounts for in- and outgoing transactions they can do the transfer internally without paying a foreign exchange commission to a bank or broker. So they seem to wait sometime until they have enough going on the other end before sending the money, though the exact details of this mechanism is probably one of their trade secrets. Furthermore I remember that there are only three banks they work with directly: I believe they are Bangkok Bank, SCB, and Kasikorn. Transfers to other banks may have to go through an intermediary and this may also add to the duration. I even seem to remember that transfers in excess of 50.000 THB can only be sent to the above three banks. Of course these rules may be subject to change. That's just my experience with them and could explain the different experiences of our members. YMMV
  4. Hello, I have a signed loan agreement by a Thai person from Chiang Mai which is overdue. Part of the agreement is a signed copy of their Thai ID card. I really don't like asking people to pay money owed to me, and I will also be leaving to Europe for the summer in a few days. So I would like to hand this matter over to someone to do the collection for me. I have the original loan agreement signed in duplicate, so I could give someone one set and still have an original for myself. What are my options? Lawyer, official or unofficial collection agency, or going to the police directly? Can you give me some hints what I should do, with as little hassle for me as possible? These things always upset me a lot and make me have sleep bad. Looking forward to your advice.
  5. DHL's web site is a bit confusing. They quoted me 611 Baht for their cheapest option express worldwide when they pick up and I prepare the shipment online. Their drop-off at the DHL office actually is 180 Baht more expensive. Does that seem right or did I maybe do something wrong? Their price is the same, if I put 100 gram or 500 gram, and with different envelope options. Seems high to me!? What do you think?
  6. Hello, I need to send a notarized document from Chiang Mai to Hong Kong. So that means a.) Where can I get it notarized at a reasonable cost? b.) What is the safest yet cost effective way to send it? I vaguely remember that the post office didn't deliver to Hong Kong for a while or if it did, it took a veeerrryyy long time. This document should get there soon, but a day or two delay is not an issue. So therefore I probably don't want to pay huge FedEx prices, but nevertheless would like to get it there trackable and maybe by the first half of next week. I don't need pick up but can drop of the document myself at the carrier's office if it is somewhere not too far from the moat area. Thank you for sharing your suggestions. ????
  7. Hello, I tried to get a yellow vaccination book to use internationally through the Mor Prom app. I wanted to pick it up in Chiang Mai. There were only two locations allowed to be chosen in the app - both in Bangkok. What can I do to get the yellow book? I am leaving soon.
  8. I would recommend visiting a doctor of Traditional Thai medicine and (s)he will prescribe you some applicable herbs and maybe a regimen for your condition. There are different body types, different kinds of sleep impairments (f. e. not being able to fall asleep vs. waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall asleep again vs. not being able to wake up in the morning) and different causes for these symptoms. A professional TTM doctor will be able to determine the proper treatment procedure for your individual condition - something a doctor in Western medicine is usually not able to do. TTM doctors undergo a thorough university training in this country. Why not use this blessing Thailand can give you. For me it helps to get a pack of WHOLE (not ground) fenugreek seeds and take a teaspoon at night with water and without chewing. This gives me a better all around quality of sleep after a few days of intake. I can recommend TTM doctors in Chiang Mai and Bangkok on request via PM. Good luck.
  9. You can originate the call from anywhere. And by the way you can also set a number that the calling party sees on their phone, after you verified one or several from which you can choose, and the service also allows you to send SMS, though not receive, and sending SMS is not free. And I did mention worldwide top ups before, didn't I? ????
  10. Thank you very much. What kind of a rough estimate of an hourly rate would I expect? Just to get an idea. Or how are billings handled in Thailand?
  11. Please note that VOIPbuster as well as VOIPraider mentioned by @ChipButty and VOIPdiscount mentioned by @OishiRefill are listed in the price comparison chart I talked about in this post: Actually they are all owned by the same parent company Delmont which uses different brands to target different (regional) markets. I have been using them for many years with their windows and Android apps and it works as advertised with decent sound quality. If you get the 90 or 120 days (for some brands) free days, your top up credit stays untouched and you can use it later to make calls to countries not covered as free. I have never found am overall less expensive provider than the Delmont companies. My favorite all-rounder of the Delmont brands is FreeVoipDeal - it gives you the 120 day free days deal if you top up 10 Euros and if you only call the free countries like Thailand, US, Canada and many more, your 10 Euro credit will be there forever and not become invalid. This way I accumulated a good amount of credit which I used to distribute to my friends in the form of mobile top ups which you can also do with these providers worldwide, f.e. to mobiles in the Philippines. Thailand or even Uganda. F.e. I use the service for 360 days (=3x 120 days freedays = 3x 10 Euros = 30 Euro accumulated credit) which i can then transfer as mobile phone credit - though not 1 to 1 - to the delight of my friends. Disclaimer: I used to be in the international phone business with my own company many years ago.
  12. There are many free or cheap options available when calling the US. But when you want to call to other countries, the situation becomes more complex. Here is a price comparison service for some of the least expensive Voip operators: http://progx.ch/PROGX_WEB/UK/all-rates-voip-comparator.awp Good luck.
  13. Hello, a real estate deal in which I loaned someone some money seems to be getting sour. Could someone recommend a decent and affordable lawyer in Chiang Mai who can sort things out for me? Thanks a lot.
  14. Where can I get booster shots this week in Chiang Mai?
  15. Thank you. TM30 and 90 day can be done up to 7 days before the 90 day due date. Correct?
  16. Hello, last year I filed my first 90 day report ever in person at CM IO. Since then I moved to another apartment in the same city. Can I now file my 90 day online, or do I have to go to IO again, since I moved?
  17. Very true. I had the same thought a while after my first posting and regretted my omission. I live close to the moat around the North Gate in Chiang Mai. And I have a bike to travel. I would also like to get an idea what other members paid for their ceramic bridge.
  18. Hello, today my ceramic bridge fell out. One backside broke of, and I think it is beyond repair. It was a relatively standard 3 teeth bridge on my molars. Could you recommend me a dentist, that is a good craftsman and is patient - since my crowns/bridges are always very difficult to adjust due to my very tight bite? And of course I would also like to pay a fair price, and not a farang price. Thanks a lot for your help.
  19. Most places will charge you 200 THB for one. After much searching I found one doctors office that did it for 100 THB 2 or 3 months ago. This is the place: คลินิกหมอจรัล 053 327 251 https://maps.app.goo.gl/epd4ggUVuahyqyoe9 You do need one certificate for every license. I don't know if they can be copies or they need originals, in my case I asked the doctor's office for 2 certificates and paid 100 THB each, whereas at other places I would have to pay 400 THB total.
  20. Hello, Has anybody experiences to report about the D D Park Rental Apartments? I am considering renting from them. Thanks.
  21. Did everyone notice the big caveat on the linked website with the chart: "NOTE: All 2020 and later data are UN projections and DO NOT include any impacts of the COVID-19 virus"
  22. I was thinking about the same topic. What I came up with as a solution was that a mortgage doesn't mean I will own the property but that I could force an emergency sale or auction in case of a default. Then obviously the mortgage would be paid back to me first and all money on top of the mortgage would go to the owner. I would think that would conform to Thai law of a farang not having ownership. What do you guys think?
  23. I couldn't find English information on the site re. yellow vaccination booklet. Did you just go (where?) and applied?
