Hello, a girl from Laos working at a restaurant I ate at told me she has to work 2 jobs from 10am to 1am every day 7 days a week to pay for the extension of her work permit. She said it costs 15.000 THB. I asked her if she is using an agent and she said yes. Her English is not that good but her Thai is excellent. So I wonder: Why is she compelled to us an agent? Why can she not do it herself? Is it ignorance of the process or are there compelling reasons to use an agent? I asked her to show me her passport and she has a Non-Immigrant Visa in Category L-A issued in Nov 2022 which is stamped "used". She also has a work permit card expiring in February 2023. I wonder if she cannot save a lot of money and her health (because she seems totally exhausted from her work schedule and mentally discouraged) by going to immigration herself and extending the work permit without an agent - or are there certain circumstances which I am not aware of. Could you please tell me what she can do so that I could relay that information to her or explain the reasoning why she should use an agent? Thanks for your help.

Ah, I think I understand now why you recommend to do two transactions a few days apart for 400k each 3 months into my 1st extension: Because for 3 months I need to show the full 800k, and after that I only need to show 400k in the account for the next 6 months. So this way I can show for the full 3 onths 800k and afterwards always can show I have the full 400k, even if they may find fault with the short transfer periods, they cannot complain that there was a very short point in time when the 400k wasn't there. Ok, that's a good idea to play it safe like that. Thank you everybody for your explanations.

You are saying the bike will be unregistered if 7 years of unpaid road tax have accumulated? So basically 7 years from now? And what about the rolled up certificate in your picture: Can I get this from the insurance company after paying the premium, or can I only get this after having paid the road tax AND the insurance premium?

Now something isn't clear to me here: When I apply for my 2nd extension in more than a year, I will need to show that I adhered to the 800k for 3 months in the bank rule. So that would mean, I then need to still provide a 12 months statement from my Bangkok Bank account (to show that I have 800k after the 1st extension - so I don't get around this annoying 1 week wait to get 12 months statement from Bangkok Bank) plus a 12 months statement from my new bank, since you advised me to transfer 400k (why not the full 800k?) after 3 months in from my 1st extension.

That's exactly the problem. I do not have a copy or the actual green book. So that would mean, I cannot get the sticker to pass a police check point, correct!?

Hello, I have a Non-O based on retirement with 800k in bank. I wish to change banks away from Bangkok Bank, because their 1 week wait to get a 12 month statement is annoying for me. My Non-O was issued in Chiang Mai in September, and I plan to apply for my extension a few weeks early in November. What do I need to consider when changing banks now, or would there be a better reason to change banks and transfer the 800k after I got my first extension? Thanks for your help.

Hello, a friend left me a motorcycle while away on a trip and said I can use it, if I want. Now the absence has become more extended and the insurance ran out by the end of August. Since I would like to use the motorscooter once in a while, I wonder if I can go to an insurance company in Chiang Mai with the rolled up proof of insurance affixed to the license plate of the bike and just pay for an insurance renewal, which I think should be around 300 THB and get a new proof of insurance with the huge year printed on it, so that I will be fine again. Can I do it? Any pitfalls to watch out for?

Hello, I booked a flight at the end of August from Vienna to Chiang Mai on one ticket from Austrian Airlines. Flight numbers are OS for Austrian Airlines to BKK, and PG for Bangkok Airways from BKK to CNX. Layover 2hrs 35 min. Will my luggage be checked through from Vienna to Chiang Mai and will I be able to go through immigration and customs in Chiang Mai instead of Bangkok? Thanks for your help.

OT question: Did VJ weigh your carry on? I think they allow 7 kg and they have been getting pretty strict about it, right? I would like to get my check-in under 20 kg, let's see if I can succeed. I always book luggage less than 24 hour before the flight, because I never know how much it will be and if VJ cancels or I change my mind, I won"t be out so much money.
