the police order (very vaguely written) says 2 months before and then must maintain the 800K for 3 months after and then not less than 400K.

So your balance needs to be:

    800 K for 5 months (2 months before + 3 months after)
    400 K for  5 months
    Then
800 k for 2 months to prepare for the next year's extension

BUT be forewarned that some Imm offices still expect 3 months before and there is indeed a case to be made that this is what the police order actually meant - not 2keep 800 in  months before and 3 months after the extension,  but rather season 2 months before 1st extension and then season 3 months before subsequent extensions (as has long been the case).  The majority interpertation seems to be  that 800K has to be in the bank 2 months before and 3 months after, though.

Safest thing to do, unless you have specific info from your IO, is to season it for 3 months before.

Given the hassle of keeping up with the days to insure the balances are what they need to be at different times in the year, and that at no time can you spend more than 400K of the 800K (which you will then have to top back up in just a few months anyhow) many of us have concluded it is simpler to just park 800K year round in a FD account where it will gain moire (though still low) interest than in a regular savings deposit.

The safest thing to do is buy previlege using an agent to avoid all the nonsense.

Did not know defaulting on a loan in Russia is a warrant-able crime. Glad I borrow in the USA and if it is unsecured, I can walk away damaging my CR and if it's secured, they can take my secured assets. In the worst scenario, I can declare bankruptcy to clear all debts.

  3. This is the post I was responding to.  "I prefer to keep my money invested in the US. I can blindly pick some conservative bond mutual funds and generate 6% in the most stable country of the world"

    I posted,
"The past year has been a tough one for fund managers. The vast majority of equity markets fell in 2018 on growing fears of a US recession, worries over the health of the global economy and a trade war.

A cursory glance over the performance figures of funds rated Bronze or better by Morningstar analysts shows just how tough it’s been professional investors. A shocking 91% of the 429-strong list ended the year in the red, with just 38 making money for investors."

    Make sense now?
Yes last year it was down but it has picked up since. Just investing in S&P index fund will generate at least 6% per year. I am still thinking if I bring few million or not into Thailand and keep in BHT or not to hedge against baht appreciation.

If you are betting the baht will rise in value , and are happy with the Thai political system, that's your choice. My choice is to keep the majority of my assets in Australia, where they are safe.

That is the exactly same reason I prefer to keep my money invested in the US. I can blindly pick some conservative bond mutual funds and generate 6% in the most stable country of the world. For the last one year, I'm vacillating between bringing a few million bahts to park in  a Thai bank and keep my investment in the USA, though in the process I am losing in currency conversion. My greatest fear is the legal system of Thailand.

Cambodians have been sent back there from the USA for years, it's not just Thais

I think the Cambodians migrated with asylum status to the USA. People who went through the process and got the residency, they were not sent back. It is only the people who did not take the initiatives to go through the process and whose asylum status were rejected, they were sent back. Of course, some children (now grown ups) were caught in this limbo state as they did not know their statuses and never bother to find out and legitimize.

Sorry perhaps a silly question but should rental agreement not include owner ID and copy of tabian Baan to confirm ownership of the property ? All my rentals always has owner ID and TB signed by the owner . If someone refuses to attach it to the agreement I refuse to lease it as I have no idea to verify i am renting from the actual owner

All rental contracts have owner ID signed by the owner. But that is not a guarantee that the place belongs to the person who claimed it to be the owner. I generally verify the owner with the condo office.

I know a Thai lady who arrived in USA with her American husband ( they were legally married) and she had a valid visa from the US Embassy in Bangkok. They were stopped at immigration and separated. After 30 minutes she was told that she was denied entry and would have to return to Thailand. She asked to see her husband as he was carrying her money in his bag.

    Again denied.

She was put on a flight without any money. Unfortunately for her she had a stopover in Tokyo on the day of a Tsunami so her flight to Bangkok was delayed.

Now they live together in Thailand.

If it is true, it is an extremely unusual case unless she lied in her visa application form. What was the reason for her denial?

When you factor in exchange rates and inflation many things are now cheaper in Europe. Som Tam might not be of course

If you have a place to stay, you're right. And in exchange you get better air, water, and food quality. The little extra that you have to pay counts towards the quality of products you buy. Health care is expensive.

UK is behind the times when compared to Thailand's effective response in nabbing illegal immigrants. ID card helps, sadly UK is still embracing the square wheel, where the country has become a criminals paradise. Hell, they can't even afford a proper police force, and they call it a 1st world country?

UK does check work places routinely for illegal workers. The problem in the UK is if they nab you, they will ask for your passport and if you cannot provide  a passport, they cant deport you. They cant detain you also for the first offense. Many illegals will throw their passport as soon as they successfully enter UK.

  10. I have been saying this for years, what they need in Pattaya is a few clubs. Proper clubs. Let whoever you want in, but actual clubs with good music, based in selling alcohol and not tush. Music, dancing, clubs, you know, real clubs. The kind people travel the world to come to, the kind top DJ's get flown to play at. As it stands Pattaya is an absolute bore. It is the world's most pathetic senior living community, Get some clubs in there and change the entire vibe and image!
Without open brothels and Thais/farangs pimping girls, why somebody will come to pattaya?
