Many Thais are ignorant/oblivious to the situation with many carrying on 'normal' life regardless. Songkran to some extent will happen in the provinces and there will be gatherings of Thais.
They need reminding at every opportunity - as do many Farangs who also fail to recognise the potential seriousness of the situation. On Wednesday this week in my locale a bar (that has a food licence) held and publicized a party for the owners wife. I understand 20+ attended (Thais and Farangs).
Do you put that in the aware/smart category ?
Many Thais are ignorant/oblivious to the situation..."
Really, says who and where has that been reported? Interesting that your crystal ball allows you to see into the future and make allegations around Songkran events that haven't yet happened. Well done.
So you're quoting hearsay about a bar that held a party that you did not attend and, obviously, could not see the attendees and the proximity they may have had to each other or the precautions they may have taken and from that you deduce that they represent "the Thais"? They don't, they represent the the people at that party, not "the Thais" as a nation. Well done, again, and do you put that in the aware/smart category?

Who on earth do you think needs reminding of it right now?
The Thais................................. have you noticed them by any chance?
Yes, I have.
You can't mean that Thais aren't aware of the situation, obviously, so perhaps you could expand on what your profound statement actually means?

Why? What's the rationale behind your belief?

Have to be careful of fake news and I can't get the link but my daughter has just told me it's being widely shared on Thai FB groups that staff at Lotus Thepperasit, 7/11 in Kao Talo and a mini Big C in Nong Yao have all tested positive for Corona...what to believe.
"Have to be careful of fake news..."
You're not being very careful re your own warning about sharing fake news, are you?

A few days ago, I asked a customer with a cough to wear a mask at Makro supermarket. Then somebody butted in and said 'it's not necessary to wear'.
Are you a cashier there? If not, don't you think that you were just butting in also?

I posted weeks ago that everyone should stock up on some masks but as expected, got shouted down by resident medical experts.
I think all public places (BTS, malls, supermarkets etc) should ban entry to anyone without a mask. How many do you have?

there have been masks floating around recycled from hospital waste
washed in a washing machine by the 100's - ironed and repackaged
very hygienic
There was one case reported a week or so ago, are you referring to more recent examples that there's evidence of?

I think irrespective of the facts about how a virus is transmitted, wearing a mask is a visible message, and a reminder, of Covid-19 and may just keep people's attention.
Who on earth do you think needs reminding of it right now?

They have asked their commuters???? Just put up a sign, and use the guards. No mask, and you don´t get on the plattform.
...and hand out masks to those who are unable to source them.

Want to ride the train, wear a mask.
We all know it makes no odds but just do it, it's not like it's going to cost you much.
Assuming that is, you can actually find a mask to wear.
The cost is hadly the point, availability is, perhaps they'll be handing out masks.
This does seem to be a request from the BTS and I doubt that anyone will be refused access to the trains but maybe your position gives you access to what they actually mean? Any clarification?

Brings to mind a very recent topic here on the forum where a person paid cash to the sales lady, she did a runner and the company denied responsibility !
LAND OFFICE WITH CHANOTE !
It's academic now as the purchase has been completed but they weren't being asked to pay cash to any individual, they were being asked to deposit cash into one of three developer bank accounts that they had already paid the deposit to...
"We are asked if possible to pay the cash in to one of three different bank accounts given to us when we made the deposit".

If you believe the customs when the said the correct paperwork was in place then you probably still believe in the tooth fairy.
And with your having no evidence whatsoever that your assertion is correct, your allegation (and lame attempt at mocking) has even less credibility than the tooth fairy itself.

I saw some reports stating ALL nationalities (im UK) must show a medical cert and an insurance cover for the virus,
What you are referring to is all nationalities (and citizens) arriving from the named high-risk countries, the UK is not on that list:-
"The government has announced that citizens of and those arriving from South Korea, Italy, Iran, as well as China and two of its territories Macau and Hong Kong, are to experience the kingdom’s most stringent screening.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam announced that the government has stepped up its measures to screen all incoming passengers, while placing major emphasis on those arriving from the listed high-risk nations.
The new measure requires all nationalities arriving in the kingdom [from South Korea, Italy, Iran, as well as China and two of its territories Macau and Hong Kong] to show a medical certificate, issued no more than three days prior to their arrival, have purchased an insurance plan for COVID-19 and giving consent to allow authorities to install a monitoring application on their smart phone".

All the taxes are laid out, in English, on the Customs Dept website.

What you are missing here is that it is not common sense and it is not respectful and that Thai people are not "really getting fed up with Foreigner BS right now".
I could tell you who is "getting fed up with Foreigner BS right now" but that wouldn't be polite or respectful.
Is this the same guy who asked me to buy him some masks, ship them, and I agreed to help? Do I have you confused with someone else???
Edited 39 minutes ago by bangkokequity
Yes, same person, taking up your suggestion to wear a mask, and I did say I'll pay, I'm not asking you for any favours. What's the problem, do you have a issue being polite and respectful to someone whose opinion differs from yours?

When Thailand cracks down on foreigners, raises the funds in banks to stay here, requires health insurance for ALL Foreigners regardless of visa or duration .. don't cry, OK? Promise? Just keep thumbing your nose at the actual citizens of the country you are (a rather ungrateful) GUEST in. Spinner2020 gets the trophy! He got it!
So wearing politeness masks will stop all that doom that you are speculating about?

Why are they not charging B7.50 (for three) for them as required by law?

Duh? So lots of Thais on the BTS, who don't know you from Adam, have congratulated you on your politeness for wearing a mask? Yeah, right, of course they have.

Pattaya: Dozens of foreigners flouting virus regulations getting drunk in a bar - owners arrested

Perhaps because it's a Thai business therefore the owners obviously have to be Thais?
