Policemen ‘Using Free Time To Escort Chinese Tourist’
hioctane replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In the US, off duty police do private security all the time but not in uniform. -
"Owners of so-called girly bars also fine the sex workers heavily if they fail to show up at work for a day or two." So there shouldn't be a penalty if they don't show up for work? If they don't do that, girls will not show up for work half the time! If you can't fine them, then the only option is to fire them and soon you will have no employees. "Sometimes, operators deduct money from the commission the women make on drinks bought for them by customers, hoping they will be too drunk to notice." This is impossible (at least very hard to do). Girls get a commission slip every time they get a drink. Girls watch out for each other and it wouldn't go unnoticed. They should worry more about drunk customers bills being padded. Where is the protection for us??

"left on the floor helpless for 40 minutes until an ambulance finally arrived". You are not supposed to move someone if they might have a broken back.

Their map is not perfect (no map is) especially for out of the way locations. You have to play around with pickup points that avoid the dead end street. As for them not moving. It usually means they are "finishing up a ride." There should be a notice. They can't show you where they are due to privacy reasons. A "hello" let's the know you are waiting.

I was responding to a suggestion about non alcoholic drinks after 2 before closing at 4. Might as well close at 2 if they can't drink liquor because no one will stay. -
If you must use a taxi, don't ask how much. Ask them to turn on the meter. If they refuse, get out. They are more likely to turn on the meter during the day than at night. That said I always use rideshare, Grab or Bolt. Bolt is cheaper. Tip.. Don't request the ride at a taxi stop or area with lots of taxis! Walk further down and maybe to a side Soi before you request. Taxi mafia is real and rideshare drivers get threatened. Drivers will drive right on by if they see a lot of taxis.

How about no parking in entertainment zones after midnight forcing people to take taxis. -

This applies to immigration in every country though. It is "at their descretion." If there are red flags, think you are trying to circumvent immigration laws, think you can't afford your stay, they can deny you. If I was an immigration officer, getting married back to back is certainly a red flag. He got off lucky. -
Will the gentle approach rid Thailand of its drug problem?
hioctane replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Arresting users is not the way to go. It just leads to overcrowded prisons and more violent criminals on the streets.. -
It isn’t so much as overcharging but changing the fare in the middle of the ride. If he had said 300 up front and they agree to it then fine. Personally, I would just get out and not pay when he stopped in the middle.

Foreigner Kills Two Teenage Girls In Songkhla Crash
hioctane replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
If it is a straight road, how can you not see a motobike coming? Even if a mototbike was speeding, it would be in your field of vision. Besides, who in their right mind would make a U turn on a road with fast traffic? Something doesn’t add up. -
Because a tourist visa has more requirements such as round trip ticket, money in the bank, proof of hotel, etc. Meanwhile, the visa exempt has virtually none. That is not simple! Should be. I “should be” be able to stay as long as I wish too, but we all can’t have everything we wish for can we. Seriously, have you done any international travel before?
