British Tourist Injured in Gang Attack on Bangla Road, Patong
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
But you're not. You assume far too much, think you actually know people that you don't, and feel harmed by their comments. You're fragile, and you suffer in imagination. -

No problem. My pleasure. Stay safe, and while traveling about, don't run your mouth off to anyone anywhere in THA at 4am. -
British Tourist Injured in Gang Attack on Bangla Road, Patong

You assumed he engaged a group. You have no idea what occured in that 7-11. A group was present, sure. Who engaged who, and how, to what degree is 100% unknown. The fact is, he got stabbed for arguing with a Thai. A common occurrence in THA (and no, not like EVERYWHERE else, as you incorrectly asserted). The point being... don't be a fool while in Thailand. Don't argue with a Thai man at 4am in a 7-11, especially when everyone -- including the foreigner -- is likely puffed up on alcohol. Thai's are thin skinned. prone to emotional outburst and obsessed with saving facing (and probably, as in this case, armed with knives). And if you are not carefully, the attackers friends will gladly pile on (again, a very common occurrence in THA, pack mentality). Now you are caught up. -

Maybe you just moved here, or are unaware about the culture... Thai men are a unique breed. Their thin skin, propensity for emotional outburst, exasperated by a constant need to always save face... Argue with most anyone else (non-Thai), and it turns into nothing physical, or at worse a 1:1 battle, argue with a Thai and all of a sudden you get jumped, joined by a group (armed with knives). Try paying attention to current events and newscast in this country. It might save you some pain and suffering. Idiot foreigner argues with a Thai and gets stabbed... News at 11. Rinse and repeat. -
British family leaves UK for Thailand for lower costs of living
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
She is doing her daughter no flavors by enrolling her in the Thai public educational system (unless enrolled in private, and hence pricey). As a young unmarried person living with her "partner" her only long stay visa option is an Elite Visa, nonB, or as a parent/guardian under her daughters ED. There is more to this story than is being presented... Sounds like they are people with money to start with. Which just means privilege has its privileges. But living in another country is not a walk in the park, and the grass is never as green as in the brochures. -

Always an unwise decision to engage in any type of argument or disagreement with Thai men (especially in a group at 4am in a 7-11 after a few drinks - downright stupid). -

Just another scam in the LoS (Land of Scams). Numerology, superstition, and ghost are all part of the national fabric. -
Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Ganja has never been, nor will it ever be, difficult to find in Thailand. And this latest flipflop changes nothing for the thousands of Thais who already grow their own (even before decriminalization). This about-face on recreational weed only affects foreigners and people in urban areas who have no Thai friends. -
Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Now all of a sudden the Thai government is worried about mental health. Just end this charade... everyone knows where this is headed... don't need to keep trotting out government hired doctors/experts to support their self-fulfilling prophecies. -

EU-Thailand Pact: Visa-Free Access for Thai Passport Holders
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Classic Thai... announcing something before it's finalized as if it's some sort of accomplishment. The only people that benefit from a visa-free EU travel scheme for Thais are Hi-So's and prostitutes (and of course their customers/pimps). -
Kiwi held in Pattaya for overstaying visa by six years
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Just to clarify... I was not living up there, just visiting. I live in Bangkok, and no one here looks twice. In high traffic tourist areas, I don't think it would be hard at all to avoid detection for years (without having to be "in hiding"). I seem to recall years ago reading about a 70+ year old farang in Bangkok finally being caught out on 5000+ day overstay. -

Kiwi held in Pattaya for overstaying visa by six years
Cabradelmar replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
In my 8 years living here, it only happened to me once... in the very first year... I was in Roi Et. Police came right up me and asked to see my passport. All I was doing was eating ice cream in the shade with my lady friend. -

Same can be said for most any country... they know who entered when and where, and have no record of them leaving, but their now in the wind. I'd love to know how many people Thailand believes are still here on overstay (seems like a simple Db query of immigration's system)
