  1. Not about first or last, just the volume.
  2. Chinese gangsters acting with impunity. I hope they don't buy their way out of this... It's bad enough this fifth gets in without them also trying to payoff people.
  3. This country attracts the worst foreigners... always has, and always will... when your claim to fame is prostitutes and cheap alcohol until all hours, you reap what you sow.
  4. How we got here is no mystery... everyone enters visa exempt now, and never leave. But really. All you have to do is arrest and deport any foreign beggars. Problem solved,
  5. If it's not handed to them, Thai people just don't seem to know how to help themselves.
  6. Worthless reporting... you can die anywhere, for any number of reasons... maybe the death was sauna induced, or maybe it wasn't.
  7. For departures. But only people with ePassports (microchipped passports) can use the fully automated Smartgates on arrival
  8. They will change their minds soon enough... And they should. They are leaving a lot of money on the table. It's not a 300 baht ($10) one time entry/exit tax that keeps international travelers from traveling to Thailand. Hell, make it 500 baht. Don't believe the tour operators cries. Easy to collect on departure too, just reintroduce the kiosks of old. Everyone has to buy a "exit tax ticket" at the airport via the kiosk (or buy in advance on online using your phone) before passing security. Kiosk could even take credit cards. So so easy. And it doesn't burden the poorest people from neighboring countries who entry/exit by land.
  9. Already left the country but hired a lawyer... Seems he really wants to come back some day. I hope they keep him out permanently. When the garbage is out, you don't bring it back in.
  10. As of May 2024, all foreign visitors to Singapore can use automated immigration lanes at Changi Airport's arrival terminals without enrolling in the system beforehand. https://www.timeout.com/singapore/news/all-foreign-travellers-arriving-in-singapore-can-now-use-automated-lanes-at-changi-airport-051724
  11. My first thought was the girl was involved in the scam to get money from her parents... Might still turn out to be the case. We'll see.
  12. It's a start. Departure passport control checks are the easier of the 2. Full passport control automation on arrival is a bit tricky. I think Singapore is probably the only one doing so for ALL arriving passengers.
  13. That's how budgets and revenue guidance work... In every corporation and government agency the world over... Missing a projection is not the goal, nor considered a success. EVER. Believe me, they care (and it creates concern for those involved) when there own projections are missed.
  14. So are they or aren't they going to recriminalize, and if they are why do the need of a petition... Makes no sense. Oh, sorry, TiT 😂
  15. It's a 15% shortfall, certainly not de minimis, but better than missing the goal by 20%, sure.
  16. More tourist, spending less. Not what they were hoping for, but here we are. My opinion... letting tourist stay longer (on 30-60-90 day visa exempt) translates into those people simply stretching their finite budgets (buying their own groceries, etc.) to cover a longer period of stay. They don't necessarily spend at the rate they would if they were only here a few weeks.
  17. Thailand's looking to jump start their flailing economy by taxing more... Great idea 🙄 they better rethink those tax tables and rewrite the foreign tax credit rules or EVERYONE (who can leave) will leave this place. On its face, this type of massive shift in taxation approach looks like something beyond their depths of understanding or capabilities.
  18. What does this even mean? "Platforms" with an income of 1 billion baht?
  19. It really is true then, UK citizens are a problem group (broadly speaking). Even your own government has to issue a warning 😂 which of course will be interpreted as a challenge to behave worse 😂 does this mean all the whining about Brit bashing will end (seeing as there is now confirmation of the truth by your own government).
  20. Pita is ready, the people are ready, but the dinosaurs who control this country aren't.
  21. Indians. That's the new target market for Thai tourism authorities. Any country with 1B+people always looks attractive... filling the tourist void left by the lack of Chinese.
  22. Thais tend to like those foreigners more who are just plain tourist because they tend to go with the flow (even when it's against their own better judgement), and then simply leave... Long stay expats (and those here just for the partying) are a different lot... and Thais love calling them out (by nationality it seems) for their bad behavior (which there is no shortage; and a lot of it alcohol fueled)... seems certain expats/foreigners have a tendency to grow tired of the constraint frustrations associated with living in a very different (sometimes unusual) country. Makes you wonder why some choose to come/stay when it seems they might be happier else where.
  23. When I said have the son escort her though the airport, I was referring to the entire trip (end to end), though to final destination. May all be moot if her condition is respiratory or heart related and it's dangerous for her to fly.
