  1. What I don't understand is how used car values can hold up very well under obvious oversupply. Every car yard I see in CM or CR is full of unsold vehicles.
  2. I don't worry too much about oils, they are mostly esters of unsaturated fatty acids. There's a lot of argument in academic circles about the merits or demerits of each. I use canola, olive and sesame oils in cooking. IIRC there was a scandal years ago about adulteration of Spanish olive oil. OTOH, I don't eat anything with trans fats, which is in quite a few margarines.
  3. The Canadians presumably would be chopping into softwoods such as cypress and pine. The guys in the video are cutting into eucalyptus hardwood. The axe blades are as sharp as razors. I remember an accident at Rutherglen, when a competitor lost his grip on the handle. It flew into the spectators, and severed the arm of a woman. I understand the Issan lassies in Pattaya are a bit heftier than the Thai norm, I'll stick with my 40-42 kg GF as far as any carrying goes.
  4. I must admit Kiwis ( New Zealanders ) are actually better shearers than Aussies. Some years ago, I watched a shearing competition at Omarama, in the middle of the South Island of NZ. The shearers were using hand shears, not powered machine shears. They were nearly as fast as the latter. One Aussie sport, which may not get much exposure elsewhere, is wood-chopping. Start the video at 4 minutes.
  5. Not true. As with many other posters with Thai wives on ASEAN, she is the CFO, with an MBA from Harvard.
  6. Easily explained, Owl. Australia has truckloads of sunshine and outdoor activity. OTOH, most of the chess champions come from cold climates, where the inhabitants have to stay indoors, or freeze their nuts off.
  7. Trump is the most dangerous threat to democracy in America since the days of McCarthyism. He strums the same chords of bigotry, with racism thrown in. He would love to be a dictator like Xi, Putin, Kim. He is on record as admiring Hitler. Maybe you don't understand that, fortunately the majority of Americans do.
  8. You'd rather a dictatorship? Trump didn't make it, but there's always China, Russia and North Korea awaiting you if you don't want to live in a democracy.
  9. Amazing Trump still has defenders after everything he has done before, during and after his presidency.
  10. There is recent research indicating the brains of dementia patients are magnesium-deficient. The problem with most cooking oils is the level of refinement, which removes anti-oxidants. OTOH, virgin olive oil is rich in them, and is a part of the Mediterranean diet.
  11. 54 was the average life span in Russia in 1950, due to rampant alcoholism. It has now improved to about 72 years. I was reading recently life expectancy is quite strongly correlated to IQ, based on a study commenced in 1932 with young students somewhere in the UK, and followed up 50 years later. The study concluded the smarter you are, the longer you will live, on average. Of course, there will always be outliers. This may be uncomfortable information for some ASEAN posters.
  12. As I understand it, the problem with veganism is getting enough protein. Humans were hunters before they developed crops. My son and his wife were vegans for about a decade. They went back to eating meat when they found they were becoming anemic. Soy is a very common source of protein for vegans. It is also rich in phytoestrogens, which are endocrine disruptors.
  13. Ingesting plastics of any kind is not a good idea, because of the additives in them. Some may even alter gender, have you gone from baritone to soprano recently?
  14. Someone please pass me a bucket.
  15. You should not complain, she will be driving you around when you no longer can. That's my plan with my GF, anyway. You may be right about everything being CVT, although apparently Mazda has stuck with the torque converter auto gearbox, even in 2023 models. I like the gearbox, because it can be switched to manual mode.
  16. Chinese brands drop more in used price than others because there is uncertainty about their reliability, and also the reliability of after-sales service. Both the Japanese and Koreans went through this phase, until the durability of their vehicles became evident.
  17. The older Nissan 4 -cylinder engines had an enviable reputation for longevity. I've seen a couple rack up 400,000 km. Be careful with the March, the record on Nissan's CVT gearboxes is unenviable. They require strict adherence to maintenance schedules, and are quite expensive to replace. IMO the older torque converter gearboxes are better.
  18. Your spelling of the word drivel is an indicator of your education level. I'll think of you as cake, in preference to pudding.
  19. White people should support Biden ( they did ) because he has restored rationality to the Presidency. He has surrounded himself with well-qualified advisors. Trump surrounded himself with cronies and toadies because he is a narcissist. Brain farts - COVID. A trade war with China - he lost. A beautiful wall - unfinished, with some corruption mixed in. Pardoning convicted felons. Inciting an insurrection. Illegally appropriating top secret files to show off to any visitor. Trump patriotic? You obviously have not heard of Dr. Samuel Johnson's aphorism " Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel".
  20. I did not have to eat less in losing 15 kg. I did it by reducing sugar and carbohydrate in my diet, and bulking up on protein. It's a common myth fat is bad for you. It's not. I eat lashings of cheese, 35 - 40% fat. True, eating less is one way. IMO eating right is more enjoyable.
  21. Trump is a white supremacist. I have to wonder at the gullibility of minority groups or individuals that support him.
  22. I like to choose an aisle seat, and always have hold baggage. I agree it's a lottery which is cheaper. IMO anyone ordering a meal on a one-hour flight is a masochist, or has tapeworms.
  23. If you want to go to Suvarnabhumi or vice versa, there is a free shuttle bus. I only have to show ongoing ticketing.
  24. I seem to have no problem on Nok Air pulling up prices for flights a month ahead on the DMK - CEI route.
  25. FAIK the woman sitting next to you in the car is not your wife. She could be anyone. I am creative, and have a world patent to prove it. You'll have to take my word for it, as I am not posting the number. You only seem to be creative in making mean-spirited posts.
