I highly doubt that they let you do that these days. Both Cambodian and Thai immigration now require fingerprints and photos upon crossing the border.

Thailand is not what you think is. You get stopped occasionally and asked to produce a valid driving licence. If you haven't got one you'll have a problem like in any civilised country.

It is expensive indeed. At some other crossings you pay half of that for overnight parking. Also a hotel room in Savanakhet costs less than that ????

I have been there by car a few times. Very expensive car park but never had an issue. There are usually a few ladies at the car park full time because you pay on leaving so they won't want to miss the hefty parking fees.
