Answer 3 gets a lot of support but it's stupid to say that an open ended cheque can be written for many millions of people. However the current arrangement is horribly inadequate even for now, long-term jobless restaurant/massage staff to live, let alone the very, very poor. And the 'handouts' reduce the individual's final retirement lumpsum anyway. The government should be truly ashamed.

Absolutely will not be accepted. And also can't be used in Thailand. So aside from meeting visa requirements as discussed below he needs to factor medical costs into his financial planning.
For the initial visa he can use a foreign (i.e. non-Thai) based insurance IF the insurer will sign the foreign insurance certificate shown on the tgia website
But for incountry extensions of stay he must have a policy from one of the 13 companies listed there. As long as he is under 75 and has no major pre existing conditions, fairly easy to purchase online. If over 75 impossible. If pre existing conditions like diabetes, heart disease etc may also be impissible but can try.
Unfortunately these are poor value for the premium cost (compared to a good international expat policy) so in addition to one of these will still need to get "real" insurance.
What some people do is get the cheapest option for the visa (LMG with a 200k deductible so essentially mo real cover) and then separately take out a real policy. For the real policy needs at least 3 mill baht cover preferrably more but does not need outpatient. So quite diffetent from the 400/40k visa requirement.
Anither option is to come in visa exempt or on a tourist visa then change to a non-O visa in country. The O unlike the O-A carries no insurance requirement.
The comment about poor value is certainly not true. April Insurance via local partner LMG give very good value for far, far less premium than companies like AXA or BUPA or William Russell, and cover for millions of Baht basis inpatient only is very affordable. If you want to place a small deductible on the policy (say 30.000 Baht) it comes down even more.
Rather than ask on a forum why not talk to a good Hua Hin insurance broker and get several quotes from insurers asking different premiums, with you COMPARING THE ACTUAL COVER yourself?

Always give it a try , if not good use it for cooking or give it away. Nice Vodka also for only 260.- named Bezo , Kulov vodka also nice and dirt cheap but a bit sweeter.
Cheers.
I've bought two bottles. Will be giving it a bash this week. Thanks

Formerly married women are better, they are usually anxious to please, and determined not to spoil a second chance at security.
The problem with married women is their husbands might be bigger, stronger or more skilled. Not a good recipe for an intact skin.
The actual problem is the gun many of them keep. Applies to jealous exes also, so beware recent Thai divorcees.

I live in the sticks, 2 hours drive each way to and from immigration with hours at the office each time ... and my officer requires 3 visits for a marriage extension.
• FIRST VISIT is to physically present oneself TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. During that first visit documents are reviewed. (Even IF everything is in order, including bank certification and all photocopies, they will not be accepted.) Come back again when an appointment is granted on the officer's calendar. Get new bank certification, get new Kor Roh 2 marriage document within the date usable for the new appointment. (No, the IO will NOT answer their phone.)
• SECOND TRIP go through each document again, a return trip set for 30 days later after the marriage documents are reviewed and returned. Ideally the second trip appointment is earlier than 30 days before the expiration of the prior extension. If not, the officer does provide a temporary extension to cover those 30 days. The first trip should be done BEFORE the 45 day window, but I've no knowledge of how long before would be agreeable for making the appointment. Catch-22 if I show up too early, I can hear the IO chastising me for my presumptuousness now.
• THIRD TRIP to have the stamp added to your passport. DON'T attempt to arrive earlier than those 30 days, don't even attempt to arrive in the AM for a PM assigned appointment (my error last year.) This is all rather nerve racking because a traffic accident, illness, whatever... means your extension in your passport has expired.
PS My step daughter drives and my wife accompanies me on these annual episodes, so 3 days effort for each of us... to an office that still has a waiting room with the 90-day report line and other people making appointments.Utterly shocking.

Last night I was at a dinner at a friends house.
it was mostly couples, and a few single thai guys.
Everyone at the dinner was Thai except myself.
As the night grew on and the drinks got slung back , the topic of 'mia nois' came up.
It turns out that every single Thai guy at that table who was either in a relationship or was married had 'a bit on the side.'
Some had more than a bit on the side
and some were just downright greedy... ????
My wife then looked at me and said 'you dont, do you love?'
to which I replied 'of course not darling', but in a very sarcastic way.
I suppose what I want to know is if you are married, do you ever play away from home?
Considering the numbers last night and the open admitting in front of their wives, I would say that it is very common in Thailand for the man to fill his boots whenever he gets the chance.
And none of their wives seemed to give a monkeys.
To my mind, if the other person involved says its OK then more power to them I say..
and as for the demographic of the people at the dinner, all of them were well educated with good jobs and good social circles.
What are your thoughts? ????
Thailand is stuffed full of women with kids whose husband just upped and walked out. Philippines is the same (just as an aside).
Without going into the male mentality here, I believe women may be putting up with a bad job by accepting that their husband screws other women, so long as he brings in money and comes home most nights. ????

Sounds like this is only for Bangkok, I'm supposed to do a 90 day report very soon but I'm in Hua Hin.
I would say you're correct. I need an extension to my 12 month O/A visa which would seem not to be covered in this, but I will just turn up and take a ticket as usual anyway (only a 10 minute drive).

I would agree with that. In USA you would need a signed agreement between the homeowner and community association. There would be a formal document of bylaws stating what both parties were responsible for. Also even with permission a person would not be allowed to live in areas not meeting code for living quarters
Yes, not relevant. So why are you droning on about US law, cluttering up the thread? ????

Hi
I tried to apply for 90 days report through the immigration online website but after completing the first page and trying to move to the second one i couldn't do it and received a message that say
Contact immigration office in your residence area.
Does someone know why the system wont let me continue to do my report online?
If you are one day over the 90 you can not renew online and you will see this message. Just a thought.

If they change the way they do things. Ethical to tell people
Yes, yours is the correct response. A sign clearly displayed at the checkout is the way it's usually handled.

Correct there should be NO CHARGE. I was asked for 500 Baht. I demanded a normal pink receipt, and after she went out back to speak to the boss I was handed back my 500.

Well Er !! Black & Decker were consider rubbish in UK.
I found them OK and and you can get hammer drills in global house cheap just as good not underpowered at all just as good as black & decker.
My B&D has lasted decades, in fact I used it last month with a 7/8 inch bit to drill a 2 inch deep hole in masonry. No problem there.
Makita and Bosch had very good advertising campaigns over the years and possibly they are probably better crafted too (no idea, they just create the impression, like Audi....). B&D were just considered workaday, not rubbish.

Er. A friend has to borrow my old Black and Decker hammer drill to drill into hard concrete because the Asian brand he bought here was woefully underpowered. Exterior walls in good housing developments like mine are within spec.

Chlorinated tap water is supposed to be safe for plants, but I can smell the chlorine in mine clearly in the sink. That can't be right. My chlorinated pool water has slowly started killing my grass on the occasions it has overflowed regularly (over a period of weeks).
Chlorine toxicity can build up in plants over a period of time until it reaches a level where leaves start to brown, etc. You should see it coming and have time to correct it
I'm just suggesting that chlorine level is something to check.. Good luck.

What a shocking idea. There are young and healthy Thais and immigrant workers already close to starving and without jobs. All because 0.000 something percent of the population might have a slightly greater chance of dying from some secondary illness they already had. It's headless chickens in charge, all around the world. I'm in my 60s and obese, but I do not want to accept the responsibility for the destruction of so many livelihoods, just to protect my life.

No need for any worry, but what guarantee do you have you can continue to live in your small house and drive your four year old car here, in the future. Hint: the answer isn't 800k in a Thai bank or 65k transfers every month. ????
I have never listened to pessimists who keep saying that Thailand will kick out farang. And revolution won't happen, maybe a change of government (again). So what?
You are, making dark and slightly silly hints at what you want to say., but I don't believe you have anything concrete in mind at all....
Asking for guarantees? Who would be green enough to believe you can do that in any life?
As you said, no need to worry.
