On AIS Fibre 500/200 plan...but I'm using their SpeedToggle capability to run at 700/50 instead.  No problem/change in international speeds.  I just tested to San Jose California at 8pm Thailand time (peak usage time) and got a 105Mb download speed.

The engineer's response of an ".....undersea cable line problem..." may have just been an excuse....a catchall excuse ISPs will frequently use.

Thanks, I tested this morning and Vodaphone London and Orange Paris servers coming in at speed. So I guess whatever it was is fixed, cross fingers.

The 'cable dragged by an anchor' was my suggestion, used to happen in the UAE occasionally, the phone support guys in 3BB wouldn't have the naus to think of something, they just avoid the problem with 'we don't guarantee international speeds'. OK, don't guarantee it (apart from to their own servers overseas), but admit when there's a major problem!

I just hate the lack of transparency. If speeds are down for three days solid, there's no way they don't know it, they just hope most people won't even notice (which is true), but at least they should make the info available for the people who do care.

  2. For 3 days my 200/200 3BB fibre has been getting wired LAN speeds of 10-15 Mbps from major IT and university servers in Italy, UK, US and Canada. Wireless 5-7 Mbps, and fine for streaming TV but not much else. Speed from Singapore Singtel is fine. I usually get 50-60 Mbps wireless to UK and US servers, for 2-3 years now.

Upload speed is still close to 400 Mbps (I guess I was upgraded free to 400/400 when I renewed in December, vaguely remember they might have said this).

After the usual 'we don't guarantee speeds to servers outside Thailand' speech from a 'special engineer' (which came after the usual 'this is a normal speed for connections outside Thailand' speech from the call-out engineers), he admitted that if there is some problem with (for example) a subsea cable link under repair that they cant route around, or other problem, then they should know and be able and prepared to advise customers. The special engineer says his system only shows quite a few problems with their link to their HK server over recent weeks, but nothing else.

Anyone else notice problems with their ISP since Tuesday? I told him politely that my complaint stands and I do require further investigation and explanation. I won't eat until I get it (you may read about my death in the news after a few weeks).

You came on the Pub for information? Now that is funny.

Actuslly, no. I just receive an email digest every day and follow occasional links from that. I guess you sit at your keyboard poring lovingly over TV Pub forum looking for opportunities to take the rip out of people. Each to their own, pal. Merry Christmas.

Feel free not to come on here and be offended.

It would take more than Level 1 troll/moron hybrid to offend me. I just find it all horribly childish. Anyway, you might find it strange to learn that some people read this forum for information not school-level humour. Weird, huh?

Different to what? You sound like the kind of guy who gets what he deserves. Thinking he knows a bit about someone after one meeting. Or three,. Of five. Yes you need good luck, for sure, and I do wish it for you. Be careful out there, it sounds like you're ready to send 500,000 baht to her mum next week...

Scroll down the terms and conditions and you will see a box to accept them. That is needed to to click accept.

For the apps to use on a phone or tablet go to here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/tm47_mobile_service

Yes thanks (also to treetops) I'd forgotten that, mainly because strangely when I tried it last week I didn't even get the 'accept' page, from a web search I was taken straight to the form page. That website is indeed very strange.

Ubonjoe quite correctly said the online application was over 4 years old.  The post you just replied to was talking about the app.  Which one are you trying to use?

    https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

Which page now has the 'accept' button greyed out now so I can't even get to the page where you enter your details before being told instead to contact your local IO. Is this an 'app', I have no idea, I thoughts apps were only for phones.

The message means your record could not be found in the database the system checks to verify the info entered on page one that is generated from you last entry to the country.

Most of the time it is a simple error when completing one of the the required fields.

Maybe I have a new passport, but it's not new since my last TM7. Seems a poor system.

For most people it is getting past page one of the application due to the check the with your local office popup message (or a blank page it is blocked).

That has been discussed in the pinned topics many many times.

I can't do them due to a old entry (pre 2013) and new passport. I get the popup message every time.

Yes, so it doesn't work. I managed it once I think, in 2017. I didn't try it again for a long time as my Imm office is a reasonable bet to be quiet-ish, but if a system is in place I expect it to work, even in LOS. Since my first success online I had no visa or renewal issues but get the pop-up message when I enter the pin at the bottom of the page.

It has been possible since April of 2015. That is over 4 and a half years now. See the date on the pinned topic about online reporting.

Thanks I wasn't aware it was that long. But 'possible' is another matter. I became aware of it early 2017 I think, and it hardly worked at all then. Forum users were quite vocal about it. I tried three days running this month, nothing doing.

    Yeah,

That will work as long as you don't mind getting shot or stabbed.

I think we're taking about normal market or shop haggling, not backstreet drug buying.

Sorry dd, you will meet all kinds here, like me, a sarcastic old timer.

If someone asks you for a higher price, just tell them to <deleted>off and go somewhere else.

A sensible answer amongst the dross. The other alternative is if you like haggling then go for it, but always with a smile.

I don’t understand the crystal ball talk. You just have to weigh the effort and expense of switching to an O against the future possibility that the insurance requirement will extend to other visas. Even if you believe it will extend to O visas why would switching to an O now still not be a good choice? There is no announcement now. The nearest change would be 2-3 years in the future. If your insurance problem/issue is now then you have to make a decision now.

I guess I am also suggesting that the effort to switch is not that great give the importance in terms of getting an extension of stay.

If you actually want decent insurance cover then the higher expense is on the OA side. The cost of cover from one of the int'l insurance companies on the approved list is tens of thousands of Bht more than I pay now, and I have 3 million cover. The hassle of renewing an O visa is a consideration though.

Whatever you do, I would strongly advise you NOT to cancel your present health-insurance if that policy suits your needs,  There are several options to escape the expensive and basically worthless thai-approved insurance.  The main one being to switch to an O type retirement-extension (which involves a border-run and application for a 90-day Non Imm O - retirement Visa).

Attached a link to my post #93 in a different thread in which I outlined the reasons why I don't think thai authorities will also require health-insurance for Non Imm O - retirement Visas anytime soon (and even less likely for Non Imm O - marriage type Visas).  And if they do it will not be done in the incommunicado bulldozer way they mishandled the present debacle.

Thanks, it's kind of you to provide this clarification. I find that I'm lucky enough that although I have an international policy where the insurer is not on the approved list, a local insurer is their Thai representative and both names are on the policy. But I worry for others who may not be so lucky. Cross fingers that the O visa will remain a viable option, as you suggest.

Logic and consistency don't apply to IO regulations, and there are many reasons why 'eventually' might not happen at all, or will be designed and rolled-out in a very different way than the present farce.

Yes of course. I don't have a crystal ball but there's little reason to suppose they won't bring O into line with OA. None at all, especially when they wake up and see that their shiny new insurance scam, sorry plan, is being avoided by the simple expediency of visa change. Unless they truly intended it to apply only to new applicants for visas from outside Thailand, which has been suggested. In the meantime OA holders must live with the current mess, cancelling perfectly good insurance plans that don't comply, and spending many thousands on new ones. Shoddy, indeed.

I was thinking to switch to O from OA to avoid having to purchase getting a second insurance (mine not in the government list). An insurance friend feels they will eventually make insurance compulsory for O also, because there's no reason to do for one and not the other.
