  1. Not entirely uncommon that very drunk people, left unattended, die in custody (suffocation etc.). Perhaps something similar happened here, and BiB thought it would be better if it was a suicide? ????
  2. Hi, I'm currently on a visa extension (30d). 1) Would I be able to buy a new bike from a shop? I hear conflicting statements here, that I should be on a long term visa. 2) Getting a Residence Certificate. Would these docs be enough: - Passport + Copy - TM 30 Copy - Rental Contract Copy - 2x Photographs
  3. Let me share you an anecdote. A good friend of mine, from Scandinavia, used to be a project manager for the second largest construction company in his country. Some +10 000 units under his belt. Anyhow, he retired and bought a worn down condo here in Thailand - and set to renovate it. I visited him the other day and was impressed by the floor. Turned out it was Vinyl. He made a small rant about how the technology around Vinyl had improved significantly the last 1-2 decades. https://www.mannington.com/residential/blog/2019/06/7-reasons-why-vinyl-plank-is-better-than-ceramic-tile What do you guys feel about Vinyl? Let's take a "all in" perspective i.e. price of material and installation.
  4. He was not wearing a shirt, he was at a party location and the water throwing couldn't have passed him by unnoticed. Simply impossible. If it happened at the Airport? Mmmkey, but this was The Famous Walking Street. Classic Turkish rage, that's all.
  5. To my surprise TAT e-mailed me after a couple of days 1) stating that they've recieved the complaint and then 2) told me that they have notified the local immigration of my complaint. My embassy replied that the notified my email. (In my correspondence with my local embassy I opened the conversation with saying "I know you can't do anything....but I want to report these circumstances etc.") Again, I will make no difference alone (of course!) but in the greater scheme of things I believe that if authorities at the higher levels get weekly complaints perhaps something will happen.
  6. I will probably get some laughs and ridicule from this, post - but, here we go: I filed a complaint with https://complaint-center.tourismthailand.org/en In short, I stated that 3-4 hour queues (in the sun), children waiting for their parents, old people confused of the instructions and almost fainting - for a 30d tourist extension is not worthy of any nation. I also added that Immigration had dozens of "agents" at the premise offering shortcut of service for a fee. I rhetorically asked if this was a public service. Also, I sent the same message to my local embassy. Yes, I know - nothing will happen. But, I also have this philosophy if I don't complain myself nobody else will. I encourage you all to make yourself heard. Takes a couple of minutes.
  7. Couldn't agree more. Also, the audacity of the staff to handle 8-9 "agent applications" out in the open; for every 1 legit application. I saw staff wearing legit Polo Ralph Lauren's and stamping passports with gold rings on almost every finger. It's unbelievable with kind of swamp it has turned into.
  8. Do we use Air Purifier in combination with an AC? I was under the impression that perhaps most AC had a "cleaning" system built in, no?
  9. Hi, I'm applying for a ED Visa and the school informed me that I need these two documents (among others, that I've settled already???? 2. Copies of House Registration Book of the residence (Blue book) 3. Copies of every page of Chanote (Property title deed). The juristic fell over themselves clueless and helpless by this request, but two weeks in I got a copy of the blue book where the owner of the condo was named. The second item, "Chanote", is that something a juristic office should be able to produce for me? Also, as it's not my name in these documents (I only rent), should a copy of the lease be sufficient to satisfy immigration?
  10. I stayed in VT5 and it was all fibre (via 3BB). I had 1GB/500mb of which I had stable 800/MBs in actual speed - all day. Seems somewhat strange if a newer building from the same contractor opted for cable in a recent project (VT7)? Moreover, Cable, these days, perform far above 50Mbps so there's something here that doesn't compute. How about you contact 3BB yourself and see if they have your building? Sometimes juristic office is clueless.
  11. Hi, I (finally) got the app working and I've login/password details for my residence. I can now make a new registration if I enter again. I entered last week via the border and the juristic did a registration for me, for this first time. However, the juristic didn't enter any stuff such as port of entry, visa expiry, etc. but only my name and passport. So, with that in mind, should I do a completely new entry with "full information" or would you guys think this is enough for my upcoming extension? I would like as little problems as possible at immigration...
  12. Hi guys, The juristic did my TM30 the other day (I entered via a border-run from Cambodia on the 6th). I'm planning to do an extension and I just noticed that the juristic didn't enter any stuff such as point of entry, type of visa, expire date of stay etc. I managed to get a username/password for this residence so I can do another TM30 registration. Should I do another one, right now, with all the info applied - or do you guys thinks it sufficient with the one the juristic did? (essentially my name and my passport).
  13. If one manages to download the app, can I use it without any involvement from the owner(or juristic?). There were some buzz about a username/password "for the building", no?
  14. Anyone here can provide a direct link to the Apple Store Section38?
  15. Somewhat weird question, I'm thinking of doing a Cambodia border run on a Sunday. Would that spell any problem? Is it less or more crowded compared to a, lets say, monday?
  16. State/Region hospitals - I understand that foreigners are "allowed", but are they running for profit for foreigners only while non-profit for domestic users? Just want to understand the system.
  17. Immigration is beyond horrific nowadays. 80-90% of applications processed by officers - in daylight - are agent/under-the-table and the rest 10% are normal applications. Old people need to stay outside waiting for 5-7 hours, families see a full day taken of their vacation to make an extension or residence cert, children need to stay with their parents 5-7 hours in line. Truly distasteful. When money gets involved we get to see the absolute worst side of Thais.
  18. Settled, then ???? Thanks!
  19. Hi, I'm about to apply for my first METV and I noticed it has a 6m validity from issue. I was under the assumption that the validity "started" at first entry (I'm very well understood with the max. 60 day stay). I guess I should apply for it maybe 10days before leaving, to get a maximum stay then? Or am I missing something here?
  20. I'm looking to do a TV in HCMC. Anyone here who might know 1) e-booking system as for Hanoi 2) The document requirements? I'm living of my investments, which are substantial, but I can't produce a employee/work cert.
  21. Hi, I stumbled upon Thailand's main immigration website which in turn had a banner for "E-Extension" at https://thaiextension.vfsevisa.com/ This seems extremely convenient, and my gut feeling is then that this doesn't work. Any knowledge here?
  22. I have a friend that was successful returning ~120k thb via the Police from a fraudulent visa Agent: documents provided to show proof of fraud was, among other things, chats and proof of transfer. With that said, when things "are clear" it's not that the entire country is lawless. However, when it comes to "loan" it's very difficult to take the anglo-saxon approach i.e. commonwealth law. She will probably argue, and win, that it was a gift, a semi-gift or another type of understanding. She might even argue that you got repaid in other means. If you were Thai, meaning that other Thais would put you in the same standing, you could of course try public shaming and scolding - to get it back. However, as you've probably figured out by now, we're not at the same social standing as Thais and if you would publicly scold her; her friends and family would most certainly only high-five her for her success.
  23. Excellent feedback from you all, I'm very grateful. After doing some proper reflection of my driving history (+90% rides are <15min) I've decided that a +300cc makes little sense (but, probably a lot of fun....). It's either a new/another Aerox or PCX or ADV or Nmax.
  24. The notion that Thailand only wants triple AAA tourists is unachievable at the moment, and TAT knows it (hence no material policy to expel "the backpackers"). the Disneylands, the Universal Parks, the world class medical services, the Casino's are located in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Macau; not Thailand. Furthermore, I would argue that luxury travel probably never will work in Thailand as the population is simply too large: there isn't much employment in a $35 000 LVMH bag purchase; but a lot of employment in 4 students splashing $4000 each in 14 days of traveling. If they can find another sector to employ 11-15% of GDP, sure (but we're not there, not even close). As we can see from the stats that I provide below, Thailand is very far off from "not needing international tourism" as @nigelforbesargued earlier. Adjacent countries are increasing the distance compared to Thailand. Thailand was very successful (relatively speaking) becoming an auto and auto part manufacturer for the ICE car industry (especially Japanese brands). I doubt they will be able to repeat that in this current and next EV cycle. Finally, @nigelforbes, you were trying to correct me when I said that Tourism services was a great export; that tourism is a bucket of its own and has nothing to do with export of services. I used the word services because that's how the The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) categorize it itself.
  25. Exactly, tourism is a highly cash generative export (of services). Imagine all the people you see at the immigration queue at the airport. Now image +30-100k thb signs over each and everyone's head; and then multiply with the tens of millions arriving per year. The absolute nonsense by Boomers, who received their retirement non-im status, <deleted>ting on younger tourists holds no grasp in reality. It's just pure low-testo bitterness.
