  1. What programs do you recommend for the rather tiny main storage of the eeePC?

If you already have one, what programs were you able to squeeze in into the 4Gb main storage and the SD card?

  2. Thanks Reimar.

THIS is what's been bugging the computers in my workplace.

    Please see THIS

Now, how do you remove it if it's already there?

The infection also prevented me from installing an antivirus. When I do so, the installation proceeds like nothing is wrong. When it finishes the installation process, the ew antivirus is nowhere to be found. Not in the start-->all programs, not even in the program folder in drive c.

    Help!

  3. Download k-lite codec pack - search google. Its free, compact and includes Media Player Classic (3-2-1 Player). It plays absolutely everything. On any screen.

It is simply the best media player out there period. Thats my opinion anyways.

I have those and more. Those are great cross platform multimedia players but it doesn't make the video work on the big screen either. The video just shows up on the monitor but not on the screen

  4. I had a similar problem and there are 3 possibilities.

    1) Wrong cable. I recommend an svga cable. You will know it because it will have a bulge(? capacitor) on both ends just before the connectors. Both ends need to be male. This is a 15 pin set up that viewed straight on is trapezoid shape.

    2) Wrong resolution. The projector has a spec for the highest resolution it can receive. If you are sending a signal that is too high it will not display. 800x600 1024x768 and so on. Look at the box or manual that came with the projector and set accordingly. On Win XP right click on an open area of the desk top were there are no icons. Left click on properties. Left click on settings and you get a screen that has to boxes marked 1 and 2. Left click on box 2 and set the screen resolution slider accordingly. Apply and OK.

    3) Wrong source. The back of the projector has several different plugs to accept different cables. Some projectors will automatically sense the signal others don't. On the remote there will be a button marked source. Each push will toggle between the different input jacks. Find the right one while a signal is being sent.

PM me if you have ay questions.

    P

    Number 2 is plausible.

    I'll check this one out.

    Thanks.

  5. You need to tell the laptop to use the external monitor, time to get out the manual :o

It's usually a key marked "CRT/LCD", will probably cycle 'internal', 'internal+external', 'external'.

If you have a video card that's dual screen capable you should read the instructions to get the best from your setup :D

    Hello Crossy,

On my laptop, the hotkeys for that is Fn+F4. That shifts the display to laptop display only, projector only, or both at the same time. I have tried doing this. This doesn't change how the video behaves. it will be displaying the video on my screen but just a black screen on the wall. It doesn't matter if I display it full screen or in a window.

    Thanks anyhow.

  6. It's the LCD projector thingy that hangs from the ceiling...

I believe it's digital... (or I hope it is)

LCD what? Are you using a TV or a monitor? Analog or digital? Believe you need to advise for those with the knowledge to be able to advise you.
  7. I have experienced something like this too. Windows Media Player plays the video fine on the laptop but nothing but a black screen appears on the big screen. I have tried using VLC Media Player but I got the same result.

The only video format that worked both on the laptop screen and the big screen are the FLV files that I have playing on the FLV player.

What I've been doing as a workaround is to convert whatever video format that I need to play to FLV using Media Converter SA Edition.

Any easier solution is most welcome.

  8. Thanks stumonster... I guess this is worth trying.

you need to clean the system without running the operating system that is on the computer.

to do this you will have to boot via CD and have an OS installed in RAM then run the cleaning programs.

    I use UBCD4win - http://www.ubcd4win.com/ - it is a 200 meg download .

you need to unpack it then use a windows cd with it to create an GUI OS to use - then update the definition files for the malware and virus detector you intend to use , there are a few different ones in the UBCD pack , and then build a disc image and burn it to a CD.

then boot the CD , it will come up with a GUI and then run the programs needed to clean your system.

it is not that hard , plenty of FAQs available.

  9. Your going to have to disconnect the network and clean each part one at a time then reconnect only after you are sure none have the bug.

Thanks RKASA I could turn off the wireless network for a few hours but my bigger problem is getting the virus out. It seems to have stopped the antivirus and prevented it from even being installed. I can't dig into the hidden files because the folder options were also removed. Even the task manager doesn't show up anymore.

  10. I work in a place where the computers are severly infected with a worm (i think) that copies an autorun.inf file on my flash drive whenever I plug it in. It also places a copy of one of several files there named service.exe, display.vbs.dll, and scvhost.exe to which the autorun file points to.

The infection has aken over the system of most of the computers there. I can't even access the Task Manager which apparently got disabled at startup. Getting in to the folder options is another impossible task because when you click on Tools to find the folder options, it is'nt there.

I have removed their patched copy of NOD32 and tried to replace it with AVIRA AntiVir. When I install the new antivirus, the computer goes through the normal installation process but after I finish doing so, the program doesn't appear on all Programs. when I tried to find the folder of AVIR in the programs folder, it's not even there.

The infection has spread to a number of computers that are in the network.

This is getiing a bit out of hand. I have tried scanning the computers from my flash drive using th potable version of Clamwin but it's just too slow...

    Any suggestions?

  11. All you have to do in Windows is hit print scr and you copy the screen to clipboard - open any image processor program and do what you want.

that's too easy! most people like it complicated :o

by the way... until a few minutes ago i had no idea that hitting "print scr" without pressing "shift" works. but now i know. thanks Lopburi!

There are times when you have to to press another key with prt sc. It depends on the kind of keyboard that you have. Most laptop computers would have the prt sc as the second function. But just like what you said, some like it a little fancy... This is too vanilla flavored for some. : )

  12. This is the good old fashioned way and probably the most simple one that doesn't require any extra software. The best thing to do is to paste the screen captured on paint then crop the one that you need.

All you have to do in Windows is hit print scr and you copy the screen to clipboard - open any image processor program and do what you want.
  13. Probably due to the fact that these free email accounts are being used to conduct official government business! That means that all sorts of confidential, sensitive information is sitting on Yahoo's, Hotmail's & Gmail's servers!

In fact, many large, private organisations still use these free email accounts today.

Strikes me as a threat to national security if there's copies of emails being archived!

    TIT.

Holy crap! They are using free email accounts for official goernment business? That's crazy.

    Thanks.

  14. The latest Bangkok Post Database pubished this article this week.

    "Officials must end free email

In its final meeting before last month's elections, the outgoing Cabinet passed a resolution ordering all civil servants to cease the use of free email accounts on national security grounds and for the development of a centralised email system to augment, rather than replace, existing government email accounts.

On December 18, the Cabinet acknowledged a report by the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission regarding the dangers to national security posed by civil servants using free email accounts, especially those from overseas, as most had signed up clicking on the end user licence agreement without being aware of its implications.

The OPDC was concerned that many providers reserved the right to create backups of emails for continuity reasons and had access to emails. They reasoned it was detrimental to the Government as it allowed foreign interests to read and analyse Thai government data for various purposes. It also allowed foreigners to analyse traffic data and conduct espionage on secret documents.

The Cabinet resolution calls for a national government email service to be created for civil servants. A "competent" government agency, the Government IT Services (GITS) (an organisation set up by Nectec) was told to come up with a plan and budget. Responsibility for the project was given to the OPDC, the Office of the Prime Minister's Office, and the National Intelligence Agency to implement.

The Cabinet also ordered all civil servants to cease the use of free email accounts within one year. Senior civil servants have three months to comply."

Can someone explain to me how a free email account can be a threat to national security?

  16. hmmm, think I'm going to get me one!

With wifi, and now with the availability of cheap (sub 5000) Edge USB gprs modems, this would make a very nice remote trouble shooting machine. Tight vnc is all I need :o

Ty, get prepared to field my silly questions :D:D

    Hello, Monty!

I hope I am not asking too much here but can you possibly post a slimmed down but usable version of Linux in the Download Section? One that would work with the eeePC?

It could be an ISO file that anyone could burn on a CD.

    Thanks...

  17. You've got nothing to lose here, c'mon just give it a try. Files don't just go away when you delete them. They just sit there somewhere, it's just removed from the index of "searchable" files. This is wheere Restoration comes to play. It has the ability to snoop around for those files that are just sitting there. Thrust me, you could still salvage some JPGs if you search for those files using Restoration. The only time you won't see anything anymore is when you use Eraser. That's a tough cleaner of deleted files.

    snapp.jpg

Thanks Sensei. I may have already overwritten files.I think

I'm coming to the fateful conclusion: I f__ked up and lost

all my memories.I'm still unsure HOW though. What I MEANT to do was:

Rid my PC of ALL yahoo left behind files,so I could re-download a fresh

yahoo messenger without conflict. So,I did a search "all files and folders"

putting "Yahoo" in the search box, then erasing all the resulting files.

Then, when I opened My Documents everything was gone! MP3's,jpg..

    everything. :o

...Well I certainly learned a lesson.

    cheers guys

    it's still "Took yong dee"

in LOS despite. Happy New year!
