What I cannot understand is people like you who cannot get something so easy !

We are here because people are cheap, women are cheap, food is cheap, living on the beach is cheap, and weather is hot.

And because of these reasons it is still better than anywhere where in the world.

Do you have friends that you called retarded sometimes ? I do ! This is exactly the same thing with Thailand, far too big very good but still my friend !

My wife used to rent space in the Union Mall in Bangkok and it cost her 40,000 per month for a 2.5x2.5 metre "shop" on the ground floor. This does not include the fines she would get if she closed early and/or opened up late/took a day off.

So expensive ! And I guess that Union is not a very expensive mall.

Obviously as has been stated you cannot do this yourself, but you can get the wife/girlfriend to do it. My wife used to do it for about 5 years at a night market. It took her quite a while to find the right market where she could sell ladies trousers and make decent money. Some markets were in poor areas and so it was difficult to sell at a reasonable price. Once you are in the market trader clique then people will tell you the bad and good markets, otherwise you have to find out yourself by trial and error.

My wife was probably making 25-30,000 baht per month after costs. About once every two weeks she would go to Pratunam market and get additional stock, sometimes she would have to go every week if things sold well or she ran out of a particular size.

She used to work from about 3pm to 9pm for 5 days and pay around 200 baht per day for the stall space. Each day she had to go and set up the stall and then dismantle it when finished and pack up. She really enjoyed the work and had some good friends, but in the end it became too difficult.

The main reason it became difficult was because the market started to add additional stalls and there was more competition and sales really began to dry up, which was partly due to the economy at the time and secondly being an outdoor market the weather is a big factor, especially in the rainy season. Packing up your stall everytime the rain comes through just becomes too difficult and so she stopped.

My wife also used to do the big shopping malls, there is no need to get a lease you can just set up on a day rate. She didn't continue with this, so I suspect that the sales were not enough to warrant the work.

To be successful you need to have the right product, right price and be prepared to work more than one market per day. Like any business it needs some research, but there is actually a lot of money being made and there were people I know were making multiple of my wifes income, just because they had a better product with higher margin and that was in high demand.

    Hope this helps.

    Great feedback, thank you.

  4. Hello,

Can you tell me if you are still happy with Hitachi aircon ?

    And also inverter ?

I already had an inverter at another place but I have never seen any decrease of my bills, so are you sure that all inverters use less juice ?

The only great point is to be able to eat under the outside unit and almost do not hear it.

    Thanks.

  5. hello,

Do you know at what time Ban Amphur seafood market usually opens in the morning ? And is it any better than Naklua seafood market ?

Do you know if today on April 18th Naklua market will be open, knowing that the road is blocked because of Songkran last day ?

And what about April 19th ? Will Naklua roads still be blocked ?

Anyway, maybe a chance to try Ban Amphur market, near Preecha seafood restaurant ? But at what times it will open early morning, maybe 4 am ?

    Thank you.

Thai people made the country. Completely stupid to post on a Thai forum or visit a country when you hate the people.

I hate stupid people but I love to use them as they are very cheap labor ! Of course, do not expect them to have any initiative or smart idea, but still, as I can make a lot of money on their a#s#s and the weather is hot, I really enjoy being here ! I just do not have s#h#i#t in my eyes as so many foreigners who are happy to know exactly nothing as the locals !

there have been blog posts since more than 10 years ago about bars where you can get shakes spiked with drugs.... even the new music festival Wonderfruit in Pattaya has lot of drugs available, worst part of this is that this is suppose to be a family friendly even too!

Where did you find drug at Wonderfruit ? I searched everywhere and couldn't find even 1 spliff !!

  8. As usual in this kind of post, we got messages from husbands who do not know more than their wives, and then tell us (people who are clearly aware about what the Thai are and how they think) that we are wrong.

    Definitively funny.

Enjoy your Thai life ! I will never accept to become one of them ! I have too much ego and self esteem to become an idiot !

After I've been living here for soon close to 15 years, I begin to think that your wife is right – i.e. the Thai-way-of-thinking: "Don't think too much" – be happy, why worry about something that has no impact on one's daily life...:whistling:

And over the years I've changed (perhaps I'm becoming old..?:crying:), and think that we Westerners shall not always interfere in other's local "business", and tell them how to behave – some conflicts can only be solved by the parties themselves, interference is just to prolong the unavoidable – remember that we ourselves get annoyed if some outsiders tell us how to do things...

I would feel sad to become Thai...

I didn't suggest that my wife - not girlfriend/wife which was the first thing you were unable to comprehend - was dumb (second thing you were unable to comprehend). I said she wasn't concerned about things that don't affect her and she has no control over. The post was about whether that realistic attitude was right or wrong.

You really should understand what you are reading before commenting. If you have had dozens of highly educated girlfriends and dates perhaps none of them lasted as you were out of your depth with them.

Your wife is a nobel price ! Just as you !

    Happy now ?

Interesting comments.  My gf is quite the opposite to what I have read here.  She is interested in more than Thailand and infact she talked about the Syrian situation with me yesterday. She has values which are quite western yet incredibly compasionate. She loves her soaps but also watches the news.  Not "educated" having left school at 13 to work in a factory to support her family but obviously intelligent. She is even a planner.

I don't think you can generalise about Thai's as you cannot generalise about any country/race.

Yours might be an exception, but you are wrong to tell that we cannot generalize about Thai.

Of course we can ! I have dozens of girlfriends and dates master degree or phd educated, but they were all as dumb as the op girlfriend/wife !

I am sure to be allowed to generalize !!!
