I don't normally respond to Thai Visa posts.  In my opinion the posters here are , for the most part,  farong who have their own natural cultural biases which can be understood, but not agreed with.

In this case, let's just celebrate that the boys have been found alive.

I'm sure that the world is happy with the result so far, but the job is not yet done. We still need to get the boys safely out and into the arms of their loving families.

With regard to the potential negligence of their coach in leading them into this situation:

This guy is 24 years old. At my age (as a US veteran) at 24 I was a seasoned US Army Artillery officer.

But my life experiences were not the same as his. Due to circumstances, I was forced to mature much more rapidly than one might normally expect of a young man.

This young man made a mistake, but should be forgiven based on his youth and inexperience,

Forgiving is what Thai have always done, and you see the results !

All these kids live near the cave and do not know that it must be avoided when raining !

Who is ridiculous here ?! He made a mistake because he is an idiot. Nothing else to add.

That means enforcing laws, putting teeth into law enforcement and penalties, and then working on driver education, i.e.,  taking someone with a third-world mentality and drastically upgrade their skill levels for the first-world vehicles that they drive.

Cash use is on the wane better get used to it. In the UK over half of all transactions are now electronic. ATMs are closing the chip and pin card will be replaced by a biometrics card. Agreed in Thailand it wont happen for years but in the main civilised world thats the way forward.

Yes, it's the way for people who are used to follow what they are told to do. Not me.

Thank God they did  find them alive, and special thoughts to all the people who participated  in the rescue in persons or prayers. These kids deserved the pain to find them, so they will make something good of their lives.

Only one thing is sad, it is that nobody will learn anything and that after few weeks everything will be forgotten until the next stupid does the same mistake.

Everybody has friends or family members who died on the road, but do you see any improvement ? Thai will never learn and they are happy this way.

Amazing. One can only imagine how the families feel. Medals all round to the rescuers and all volunteers.

Why do you think so? I like to drive fast myself, but when looking at it objectively it's probably too fast.

I don't know where exactly the cameras are, but if it's the part of Phetkasem road that's inside Bangkok: In for example Germany such a road would have a speed limit of 50km/h, so 90km/h is quite high.

Some people say that when you have unpaid tickets you can't pay the annual tax for your vehicle, other people say that's not true. I don't know what the truth about this is (probably also depends on where you got the ticket and where you pay the tax), but your wife will probably figure it out the next time she has to pay the tax.

True that 90 is already fast, even if I often drive there at 130.

But compared to EU and US, fines are so cheap, so who cares !?

Eight days, no food, no clean water.  Sadly, I don't hold out much hope for the survival of all of them.  The ones that do survive will be traumatized by this event for the rest of their lives unless they receive some very good psychiatric help and counseling.

    Thai traumatized ?

I don't think to ! If they are alive as I wish them, 2 days later they will have forgotten what happened.

I bought the Xiaomi Mi A1 32 GB GLOBAL version on Lazada, from the Xiaomi Shop I think, a few months ago for 4,990.

It can take two SIMs or one SIM+uSD card (up to 128 GB). You can choose the preferred SIM for cellular data, calls, SMS.

I'd recommend getting the Global version (red label on the box). 32 GB is fine, if you run 2 SIMs you can always back photos up to the cloud, or one SIM plus a uSD card.

It's a great phone; just got 8.1/June 5 patch a few days ago, works well in the U.S. on band 4 LTE. It's my travel/back-up phone. I can't seem to get VoLTE working - it should work - but haven't messed around with it much. It's an Android One phone, so stock Android...assume you're familiar with the concept?

For 1000 thb more, the 64gb version is a better choice.

But why use this great phone only as travel phone ?!

    Thanks again.

Th MI A1 has two slots for SIM. One of the slots is a SIM / Micro SD card slot combo.. So you can use either two SIMs or one SIM and One Micro SD card.

    3-เลือก-2
    Nano-SIM/MicroSD

Great phone for the price. If you are handy with Android software you can improve the camera a great deal by loading the Google camera as well.

I would search for the 64gb version if you take a lot of photos or have movies and music and you want to use two SIMs, thoguh.

Thank you so much ! I didn't know about the 3-CHOOSE-2 (do they call it like this in English ?)

And good idea to buy the 64gb when using 2 sim cards !

  10. hello,

Do you know if all Xiaomi mobiles sold in Thailand have 2 SIM cards slots ?

Including the Mi A1 Android one as this one ?

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/xiaomi-mi-a1-432gb-1-i221750350-s350816079.html

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/xiaomi-mi-a1-eu-32gb-black-i161130522-s194387048.html

And do you know why we cannot ask questions on the second link (lazada is seller), they do not reply to questions about products that they sell ?

It seems that we cannot find any better android mobile for 4790 thb, right ?

    Thanks.
