  1. two best-known brands are Lumigan and Xalatan.

Lumigan appears to be available in local Chiang Mai pharmacies for about 490 baht per 2.5ml bottle.

Anybody found Xalatan locally? Price and availability?

    Which one do you prefer?

    thanks.

  2. PepsiMax (Thailand) is produced and bottled by PepsiCo in Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong, Thailand. It is currently available in 240ml (8.3-oz) cans and 550ml (18.6-oz) plastic bottles.

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/PepsiCo-unveils-Bt18-4bn-plan-for-Thai-investment-30193061.html

PepsiMax is a high-caffeine sugar-free energy drink, containing twice as much caffeine as Regular Pepsi or Regular Coke. The artificial sweeteners in the Thailand formula are Aspartame and acesulfame potassium ("Ace K"). Those on low-sodium diets should be aware that there are also 60mg of sodium (from sodium benzoate?) in each 550ml bottle of PepsiMax. Not the "5mg" per serving shown on the label.

How much Aspartame and Ace K and caffeine in a 550ml bottle?

None of your damn business, according to PepsiCo and the Thai Ministry of Health. The list of ingredients label is on each bottle (by law?), but not the amount of each ingredient!

Internet research reveals the secrets: 100mg of caffeine are in each bottle - about the amount in a single cup of coffee. Each bottle also contains 193mg of Aspartame and 50mg of of Ace K.

Sugar-free PepsiMax consumers in the "Liter-Level League" (4 bottles per day is 2.2 liters) are ingesting 770mg of Aspartame; 196mg of Ace K; 250mg of sodium; and 426mg of caffeine. How's your health?

  3. Old one down to 8600B (WIFI only) in Big C today.

Are Mini-2s available with Wi-Fi and cellular (LTE) in Thailand retail stores, or need to be ordered online only?

Can we expect Mini-3s with cellular to be available soon?

    Thanks.

  4. Anybody planning to buy the newly-released Mini 3, or decided that the older (less-expensive) Mini 2 is a better deal?

Very disappointed to learn that there's no change in operating system, 8MP camera, etc.

What's the most-recent best price for the Mini 2 here in Chiang Mai?

  5. I stream from Bangkok servers, all of the channels i need to watch,

    sports,news,movies,series,documentaries,kids channels,its a paid

service, but only 350THB pm. I only have 15/1 and it works very well

    for me.

please provide name of Bangkok provider, phone number or website.

    Thanks!

  6. Are you an Internet streamer?

Using a Slingbox on a TV in the USA, I can stream my favorite TV programs to my computer in Chiang Mai. The stream rate (or “bitrate”), measured in kilobytes per second, needs to be at least 800 Kbps to achieve a real nice picture.

I’m in Hang Dong and subscribe to 3BB fiber optic, 30/3.

During the day, the bitrate stream is smooth and steady in a range of 800 to 1200 Kbps. Then, along about 6:45pm every evening (weekday or weekend), the video stream stutters and freezes (“hangs”) to the point where I just turn it off. 400 to 600 Kbps.

Is my ISP controlling or throttling the stream speeds? Are there too many users jumping on the (shared) fiber optic line every evening here in Hang Dong? Is it both? Do I need a better router? A booster? A better 3BB plan?

Any Chiang Mai streamers having similar problems?

  7. Anybody in Chiang Mai like to offer meat/fish smoking service to a non-smoker? Customer provides salmon fillets or boned & skinned chicken breasts, pays to have 'em smoked. Please PM your response and also post, if you like.

  8. I used to have one in England.
They are a complete gimmick / boys toy.
You need it for two hours then its in the cupboard forever.
This is what you do with it
    Buy it, take it home
Then you go around the house looking for electrically run items, yes this is the exciting bit.
Ok fridge wow! Now you got to shift the damn thing to plug on your toy. Leave it for 15mins and take the reading.
The reason you leave it for 15 mins is because already you have found the TV and you want to test that now.
Another 10mins you decide to try the kettle and realise the kw rating is correct.,so that was useless.
Then you see the air cons, yes that's the one......but no you cannot test them, they don't have a plug.
Now you are bored, you can't try the washer because it's not washing say so you decide to try your pc and then your phone on charge.
This is the reality they are a pointless waste of money.

When I had one I learned one thing, the only thing worth knowing and that's how much it actually costs you to have your TV set on standby for 18hrs a day.....which was about £1 a month....and it proved it wasn't even worth getting out of your chair to switch it off .

The meter doesn't save you money it's your lifestyle and how conscientious you are about saving money, switching lights off blar blar blar
And pretty much every appliance has a usage rating so you just need some aptitude at simple arithmetic.

    points to ponder . . . . .

    a well-delivered soliloq1uy!

  9. The Kill-A-Watt is a meter that measures energy consumption of individual electrical appliances (refrigerators, computers, clothes dryers, televisions, etc.) in the home. It's made in Taiwan and sold in USA as the Kill-A-Watt, $25.

Although the USA version is designed for 110-120V system, Wikipedia says there's a version for 220-240V as well:

Anybody know if the 220V version is available in Thailand? Tried Amorn Electronic and HomePro, no luck.

  10. WHAT ! ! ! Your post has been on here with that photo for more than 5 minutes now..... & not one bitch about the photo or camera, or lighting, or plate color...... Man I need to sit down with you and find out how you did that.

    tongue.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

Did he download it from Google images? That is usually the best way to go.

The photo was meant only to inspire the readers. The Rimping label and price remain accurate. Prime Attlantic Cod, 495 baht per kilo.

All for naught, however - Worgeordie is right. Too expensive for Chiang Mai expats, even at 200 baht per serving. I'm on my way to Pun-Pun!!!

  11. Plenty of Vietnamese catfish available in Thailand, it's called Pangasius. After you have seen a docu about how they are farmed, you not gonna buy them ever again.

Makro had a good alternative, called Alaska pollock, but since the richest man from Thailand has taken over Siam Makro, it's all replaced by the cheap shit Pangasius.

Worgeordie is spot-on with the Pangasius. Siam Makro (and throughout Thailand) it's also called "Pangasius Dory" - not the John Dory fish that is popular in England. Kelly's and Dee's and Coach's and dozens of other Fish and Chips plates around Chiang Mai (except Pun Pun) use this cheap and plentiful "white fish" rather than the more expensive Atlantic Cod, Grouper, Haddock, Pollock, etc.). Sadly, TV Forum customers and reviewers never mention the fish type, only that it's "cheap" and "filling," and there's "plenty of chips".

Atlantic Cod is imported frozen and sold in Rimping. I'd pay 150-200 baht for that fish in a nice batter, if it was on the menu.

The Alaska Pollock in frozen fillets, which is a tasty fish which doesn't lose half his weight when thawed like the Pangasius does, was about 230 Bht/kg when still available in Makro, where the Pangasius is 110 Bht . So I would think that using the Alaska Pollock wouldn't kill the bank for the restaurant owner.

The Prime Atlantic Cod fillets at Rimping (Nim City) are priced at 495 baht per kilogram. A delicious fish indeed (and twice as expensive as the Alaska Pollock). How many grams of fish per serving? How many servings per kilogram? Too pricey for us fish-lovers in Chiang Mai?
