If you are still paying into the Social Security system via your employer, you will be covered by that scheme. If, however, you are no longer paying into that scheme, you will be covered by the universal healthcare/Gold Card/30 Baht scheme/or "whatever else it is now called". In the latter case, you will have to use the services of the government hospital/clinic tied to the district where your house registration is located. However, if they are unable to provide the medical care needed, they will refer you to another gov't hospital/clinic where the necessary medical care can be provided. I do believe that you do have to register under the scheme though before you can start using it. I'll find out when I retire at the end of this year.
Thanks Garry - as some sort of backup, would you know where to register?

HNY to all you fine people!
Question, anyone knows? Are naturalized Thais automatically covered by Thailand's national healthcare coverage? Or does one have to apply if one doesn't yet have, say, a social security number?

Thailand Pass is not on hold. Test & Go is on hold. Thais apply for Thailand Pass for AQ or Sandbox (Phuket) as before.
So what are the Thailand Pass quarantine requirements for Thais?

Thailand Pass for foreigners on hold... anyone got any clue what the current re-entry requirements are for Thai citizens?

These banned off-hours always let me buy more drinks during allowed hours. It's the usual Thai officialdom chicanery, nothing more to it. Them trying to cultivate a pure society. Yet achieving the opposite.

Since the rest of the world starts giving third booster shots, will Thailand miss this development again or are booster shots ordered?

Thai authorities overwhelmed
Airline leaves passengers standing in Zurich
Passengers despair at the formalities surrounding the entry form: Those affected report that they were unable to board their flight in the first place. For Manuel Simon (name changed), the long-awaited dream vacation in Thailand has become a nightmare: At Zurich airport, the airline Edelweiss won't let him on board because he can't show a QR code for his "Thailand Passport". This document has been required since the beginning of November so that foreign tourists can enter the popular vacation destination without restrictions in Corona times.
Edelweiss stands firm, the plane to Phuket takes off without Simon. It is Sunday, November 7. The following day, the vacation should have begun in the faraway country. Simon discovers that other passengers also share his fate.
The entrepreneur from the canton of Zurich, who does not want to be mentioned by his real name in this article for fear of harassment for upcoming trips, no longer understands the world. He had applied for the passport in time and submitted the necessary documents on the Internet.
The website certifies that he has successfully registered for the document, as shown by screenshots obtained by this newspaper. But Simon's passport has not been assigned a QR code.
Simon desperately turns to the passport hotline in Thailand and by phone to the Thai embassy in Bern. He can't get through to either of them. He also writes an e-mail to the embassy with an urgent request to organize a QR code for him.
Because on the following Wednesday, three days after the first planned flight, there would have been another possibility to fly to Thailand with Edelweiss. The vacation would then have been somewhat shortened. But at least he would have been able to relax in the sun and by the sea.
Embassy takes its time with answer
Simon did not receive an answer until Tuesday of last week. The embassy had no control over the registration system and therefore could not assign QR codes. However, the request was forwarded to the responsible authorities in Thailand. And so it happened that Thailand fan Simon remained in Switzerland on Wednesday.
Edelweiss confirms the practice of not even allowing passengers without a valid "Thailand Passport" to board. "We are aware of cases in which we have had to turn away passengers because of this, which we regret," says a spokesman for the airline. Edelweiss does not reveal how many people have been affected by this since the introduction of the new entry rules in Thailand.
Passengers on flights with Swiss - which flies to the capital Bangkok in Thailand - are also urged to have all the necessary documents with them. "Quite generally, we are not allowed to transport passengers if they do not meet the entry requirements," says a spokesman for the airline. Airlines therefore recommend that passengers apply for the necessary travel documents in good time.
It is also advisable to have the documents with you in printed form. "Certain countries have a hard time with digital proofs," Edelweiss says. In addition, there are pitfalls with digital documents in practice: empty battery, no Internet connection, defective smartphone.
Major tour operators are equally aware of problems with the "Thailand Pass". "Kuoni and our Asia specialist Asia365 are observing that individual teething problems are delaying the transmission of certain Thai Passports to travelers," says a Kuoni spokesperson. Meanwhile, the passports Kuoni has requested in recent days have arrived in time for departure, albeit some at short notice.
Travel insurance refers to "force majeure"
To the annoyance of the burst vacation comes still further Ungemach for Manuel Simon. His travel insurer does not want to cover the costs incurred, referring to "force majeure".
"Third party fault" is more accurate in this case, says Simon Sommer, expert for air passenger rights at the online portal Cancelled.ch. A distinction must be made between the failure of the Thai authorities and the airlines' General Conditions of Carriage (GCC), he said.
"The ABB of most airlines stipulate that the passenger is independently responsible for obtaining and carrying the documents that allow him to enter the country at his destination," says Sommer. If he or she is unable to do so - regardless of whether it is his or her own fault or not - the airline is authorized to refuse boarding.
Sommer advises passengers to thoroughly check the respective insurance conditions and, above all, the exclusions. It may also be helpful to talk to the insurer about goodwill.
The Thai embassy in Berne informs on request that in the meantime "many considerable technical difficulties have been solved". It is now possible to track the status of the QR code. So far, 206,131 people have successfully applied for the passport. The authorities in Bangkok were surprised by the rush, which is why the system was overloaded.
Manuel Simon is unimpressed by this answer. He is considering to sue the embassy.

You know, am not telling anyone about becoming Thai. It makes most of long staying non-Thais here jealous, so no point in telling anyone - the envy!

Finally. Got. That. Blue. Card. With a horrible photo. Overexposed. Can't even decipher the height numbers in the back. Who cares.
Would I do it again? Of course. Everyone knows from the outset whether one qualifies or not. Grow a thick skin, smile, and smile some more. Conquering Everest? Peanuts in comparison. As @Arkady says, at least a few slippery banana skins are thrown under everyone's feet. But then again, you know from the outset whether you'll make it. You'll meet every bureaucratic obstacle along the way. You'll end up as more Thai than most Thais: sealed, strengthened and authorized by mountains of official stamps, signatures and documents, signed by HM.
Am I more Thai now? No clue. Just the thought of having not to go through all those yearly processes, such as Syphilis and Elephantiasis test for work permit, how liberating. Maybe enjoying two beers tonight instead of one.
And thanks to all of your valuable information in here! It's great to have the guidance of first-hand experience along the way. Just be patient. And it's done. ????

Words cannot express what I'd like to express. Supposed to be on the final meters - and the bureaucracy is simply astonishing.
Back in the Sowjet days - yes I did lot of things - when you bought a train or opera ticket in Moscow or elsewhere in the empire, there was this seller behind a small window. Powerless really, a seller of tickets. But impossible to be told what to do. You needed the ticket, and that person securely positioned behind that small window enjoyed the power over you.
Thai bureaucracy is similar. And the naturalization process tops it all. Take all the bureaucracy, red tape and potential chicanery available - you'll meet them along the way. The ID process is a concentration of the good, the bad and the ugly of all Thai bureaucracy. Gladly, most Thai officials are forthcoming, warm-hearted, helpful and hard working. Yet I somehow always attract the exception that proves the rule. It somehow made me more buddhist. Patience, patience, patience.
Again, words cannot really express the whole Thai naturalization process. They kind of streamlined it and opened the doors to new categories. It can be nerve wracking without the adequate approach / attitude.

When you say tooth broke did you have what's left extracted? Because if there's enough left you might not need an implant, just a "core buildup and post" (what they call it) and crown on top.
I have had an extraction and was given to understand that a gap like that in the tooth line is not good for the jaw bone. Bone loss starts and if it's bad enough bone grafting might be needed before implanting.
Curious what you heard that implants can do more harm than good. As I'll probably be getting at least one.
Tooth broke under the gum, so that makes the core redundant. Had to do an extraction - and boy that core was still strong! Must have bitten at one point in time on something that cracked the top of the tooth...
Someone suggested that an implant can do more harm than good to the local nerve system.
-
Out of nowhere a tooth broke. Dentist says teeth are otherwise in good condition. Happened a few months back. The gap healed quickly and nicely. Have no trouble eating and chewing.
Long story short: What are longer-term consequences of not having an implant?
Heard some stories that implants can do more harm than good.
If not, can anyone recommend a dentist / clinic / specific implant brand?

DHL are the worst. Whenever I want to purchase something abroad and shipping option is DHL: cancel the order.
The hassles and additional costs are not worth it. Always hassles, always exceeding additional costs. Very shady business model, to say the least. They advertise cheap shipping rates - at the end they're the worst expensive. Plus all the hassles. Avoid DHL. They're bandits.

This was only in Dec last year. A fast, friendly experience.
However, came across a couple of idiots, who seemed intent on making things harder, when I was choosing my Thai name, back in 2018. I had to get my parents' passports copied and my birth certificate translated and legalised.
The requirement in the local khet for ID issuance, each on different days - and I have the blue tabien baan already:
- Submit all docs
- Interview to double-check and verify all docs
- Head of khet wants to personally approve each candidate - this despite HM already has so
- Hopefully get a call from khet for ID issuance
- ID issuance...
That's the ideal case.

Great, nearly there!
My khet in Bang Kae did it all very quickly, a couple of hours to get on the blue book then 1.5 hours for the ID.
Not sure how long back this is, but seems like things are a bit more complex now than some time ago. Just one of many signs how Thailand is regressing.

I visited my Amphur on 1st Sep .
They said we will call you back after 3 days.
I didn't get any call,
on Monday 6 SEP , i called Amphur myself and they informed me come Tomorrow on TUESDAY 7 @ 9 AM
I took my Day off from Work , i was on the way for Amphur , i was in half way when Officer called my mobile and said i have problem at my home flooding i will not able to go Amphur, please come on 8 SEP @ 9 AM.
I took another Day off from Work, Went to Amphur 8:15 , officer was already there, he took 3 hours to complete my Blue Book process.
it was 11:45 AM
next step ID card section, once i went to that section they said you have to come tomorrow , we don't take Walkin , <deleted> , i was already out of my mind since the day first, and yesterday everything has been out , i was with my 2 brother in Law, my wife and my father in law.
We DAA nak ti sud laey, i am not you servant to come everyday for you, yesterday i took day off, today i took day off, and now you telling me i need another day off, who the hell are you to say so, you are Govt staff i pay Tax so you get salary, nearby office was Boss, he took us in his Office and say sorry and said kindly wait i will sort out,
after 10 min he back in office and said please come back @ 3 pm, and we will process your ID.
My question was only 1.
all the staff free, playing mobile, no customer at all, and you can't process my ID , i need my ID today , there is no Tomorrow, we all working .
so i got ID card @ 16:15 all amphur staff gone, only 3 left for me to process my ID.
Damn i took 3 day off, in 9 days,
The day got Certificate, The day you called me and staff absent, yesterday for ID.
Now whenever another Tang Dao will come for ID which is they need to process 19 People from 4 and 5 RG, they will consider them really good.
I waited for 3 hours for Blue book , staff should tell me go and get que , they are all shut up and that is the point we got it to Daa them naaaak ti sud baa oye
i Got my Shiny Blue card at 16:15 with no fees and actually amphur already closed since 15:30 ????Good lord. The really frustrating part about all this is how some khets over-exercise their authority. Since RG publication you are a Thai citizen. All they have to do issue the according documents to you. No ifs and no whens, they don't have any decision power. HM signed, the interior minister signed, you got all the paperwork.

Just received an update from a friend who was in the first August RG batch - he got his ID. Speaks of an exhausting experience and says it was suggested to him to reward the officers' hard work with a few thousand baht, otherwise his paperwork would still be lying on a desk. ????

Mine starts with an 8, I am not a Thai citizen (yet). I have PR, and this number was assigned when I was included in the blue tabienban of the house I live in.
Correct, naturalization certificate lists the same number.

Interesting tidbit, was under the impression that all Thai ID numbers through naturalization start with an 8.
In the latest batches are some that start with 6. According to not-always-reliable Wikipedia those indeed are different categories... fat finger syndrome of the typist or what?
Anyone?

Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Good day everyone, this seems interesting. Looks like from now on Thai writing is also required for citizenship applications - but the process will be faster.
With the language requirement there might be less applicants though. And no longer Santiban in charge of applications? And you can apply from abroad? Looks like a lit of changes - or just more paperwork:
