  1. Maybe you can get a representative of the BOI to explain to the school that attending school as the dependant of a LTR visa holder is perfectly fine, there should be no need to apply for an ED visa at all.
  2. I'm surprised that the ED visa racket is still alive and well, considering that there are now "unlimited" visa exempt border runs as well as the DTV available as alternatives. But in any case, yes, you should get your current extension properly canceled at the immigration office that issued it before leaving. Just tell your school/agent and they can facilitate it for you.
  3. I do, and I really don't get it. They should have extended the list of countries to include those and a few more. Back to Thailand though, at an event like the ITB fair in Berlin, Thailand would raise a few eyebrows if they reduce visa exempt stays for Germans back to 30 days while Vietnam continues to offer 45. What's also nice about Vietnam is that the policy has an end date clearly spelled out, so people planning a trip aren't left wondering which rules will apply once they'll travel there. Thailand's insane flip-flopping really is quite something.
  4. Yes, while it's disappointing that Vietnam didn't extend their visa exempt program to more countries, that they give 45 days to many Europeans wouldn't make Thailand look good in comparison if they revert to 30 days.
  5. Indeed. They're a bunch best not offended.
  6. I'm a bit baffled how this German can have a Thai mother without ALSO having Thai nationality. I wish him luck in any case, he'll need it and his reason for being in Thailand is better than most.
  7. Alright them, let's enjoy Thailand's beaches while we can...
  8. How's this a "border run" if you enter Thailand at a land border (Aranyaprathet) and then fly out from an airport (DMK)? Generally speaking, what people call a border run is going out and back in at the same border crossing, usually within minutes
  9. After the previous weeks had been noticeably better, it's quite a filthy mess right now.
  10. That should tank the baht, which I would welcome (if for entirely selfish reasons of my own)...
  11. Say no more. Yet another junkie getting into trouble and embellishing his jail experience for clicks.
  12. There are obviously quite many, and that has always been the case. And why not? One door closes, another one opens, whenever there has been a crackdown of some sort, those determined to stay have found another way...
  13. That's a remarkably sensible proposal. Sadly, that's exactly the reason why it will never happen.
  14. I'm sure Iran's nuclear facilities will be destroyed, the only question is when. It simply is necessary, also as a deterrent to others.
  15. That will come as a major relief to millions of Songkran travelers.
  16. I think the U.S. should ban both her and, even more importantly, her father.
  17. What's with all the British drug traffickers lately?
  18. I'd allow an extra week for any unforeseen delays, requests for additional documents, holidays etc.
  19. That depends on his embassy's processing time, which your friend should check. Applying too long in advance would reduce the visa's usable time, but he also shouldn't risk leaving it too late.
  20. There will never be a 5-year DTV visa stamp in any shape or form, as it's an eVisa. What an entry stamp transfer as suggested by @DrJack54 accomplishes is that (1) the old and the new passport are linked in immigration's system and (2) a stamp referencing your old passport number is put into your new passport. That should make using the eVisa (which has the old passport number printed on it) with the new passport hassle-free. I think that's preferable to the OP's plan, although it should work as well.
  21. That's a real shame. Having an ice cold beer on a night train before getting a good night's sleep used to be fun in the good old days.
  22. Bangkok won't care either way...
  23. That will cost him a pretty penny!
  24. There is, if you follow that suggestion and obtain a new passport while in Thailand. In that scenario, (at least) the entry stamp is always transferred from the old passport to the new passport.
