I agree in part. But, I think it's even bigger than that. China would likely be persuading Thais to buy the Chinese vaccines using massive economic coercion like 

Threats that if the Thais refuse the Chinese vaccines, China will not allow its tourists to return to Thailand when the pandemic is over. I'd bet this is the biggest lever the Chinese will use on the Thais.

It was ALWAYS an idiotic idea for dozens of reasons an average 10 year old in a developed country can understand. 

Perhaps the most obvious is that there is no sandbox with a virus like this unless they were testing Phuket like a BSL4 Bio lab.

UK working vaccine produced

I know most cases have come from locals traveling to Phuket from other provinces. But the messaging is important.

they really do need to get their act together and tell TAT to take a back seat because there is a health emergency going on that needs sole focus.

They can't help it. Unlike some of their neighbors, a huge part of the national/cultural strategy is

At the same time, they shamefully rely on foreigners directly (tourism) for a HUGE 30% of their national GDP. It's a massive, always lingering embarrassment for them.

I do shop on that site a lot (in fact, I am a platinum member... oh how hiso), but the commercial website being used to sell a vaccine. Just imagine this being offered on Amazon or eBay. It does make it worse that this is not a Thai company. 

 

 

It's disgusting, agree. But, more than that it shows how perfectly disorganized the Thais are. Of course, any honest person living here would admit disorganization is a national characteristic here.

Or have such low testing capacity and no digital systems management that they lead to thousands of people waiting in queues for hours with amongst some percentage of people who probably ARE infected, further infecting others.

Excellent way to contract the virus standing in long queues for lengthy periods. Also, likely that people who contract the virus while in those queues will test negative but several days later be spreaders.
