And the mamasans will be touting them as far fresh demanding 5000b barfine and 4000b Short Time.
I am hopeful we'll get some fresh blood into the industry. Prior to the pandemic, there were far too many Aunties barely shy of qualifying as elderly, smelling of garlic and chili burps.
We shall hope to see some youngish (19 to 25s) in the industry as the economy has been so depressed. Should be a good time for a couple years.

Leave it to the Thais to talk and talk and talk about it rather than focusing on doing it. Meanwhile, other countries are simply getting it done, mostly with fanfare.

Everyone plays so coy. Pattaya will be successful as long as there are tens of thousands of pretty girls selling themselves.
Nothing else matters from its side.

This will solved SUPER fast owing to the very bad timing as the Thais desperately need tourists, any tourists, to come.
Expect a world-class investigation result in a handful of days.

Thailand: the world's most stable outbreak. They might as well just report 2,419 everyday for the next year. Easier

Yes. In fact, the wisest wealthy foreigners in Thailand keep the majority of their assets in jurisdictions that provide rule of law and some degree of transparency.
Thailand is an easy country to live in on moderate wealth, so no need to put all one's wealth at risk by bringing it into a Banana Republic (or Rice Republic).

What now worries me is that some countries are not faring well in spite of high vaccination rates. Those countries are the Seychelles, the UAEs, Uruguay, Chile. Some say this is because those countries relied mostly on Chinese vaccines, but is it?
It's a combination of factors, I think.
Chinese vaccines are less effective. Some of this effectiveness is simply because of the type of traditional technology they are using.
Another factor will be that people are fairly stupid and don't seem to understand science at all. Being vaccinated is not a free ticket to not wear masks and practice social distancing and the enhanced measures, not for now. A vaccinated person is still very capable of becoming infected with old and new strains and can pass the virus onto others.
Until this virus is eradicated entirely (like Polio), we will be at risk.
Thanks, China

But now I am here and they scrapped the Smart Visa changes and they have also scrapped the STV, so I am not even sure I will be able to stay the full 9 months. I earn almost $200k, presumably I am exactly the kind of person they want to attract and keep. However, reading the above, it says things like "They must have qualifications of at least a bachelor's degree" - I have no university experience, however I do have over 20 years of actual experience and the title of "VP of Engineering" to match. They also say "They would be nomads in stock trading at companies making at least 50 million dollars per year" - What the heck? You only want people who work in trading companies? I work in an IT company, and how does it even matter how much the company I work for makes if I earn enough?
Meanwhile, I can easily move to Ecuador and actually buy land and live there permanently and feel like it's my home as long as I make $800/mo (Rentista visa). I want to feel like this my home Thailand, I do not feel welcome here and I am worried I will need to leave soon as the STV isn't eligible for COVID extensions. I am 38 so I am not eligible for the retirement visa for another 12 years. I am not going to set 600k baht on fire getting an elite visa either, I think the fact I live here and spend 30000k baht a month on rent, hire a cleaner for 3600 baht a month and pay for groceries and e.t.c. should be enough.
And, as always, this is the big, critical lesson about Thais and Thailand.
Nothing is reliable. Everything is subject to change. Agreements are effectively meaningless.

Yup. In a literal sense, it matters. In a practical sense, it means absolutely nothing because even if the world got to the bottom of it with 100% certainty (which likely impossible now for reasons listed above), China will just do what every demagogue does, be it trump, putin, bolsonero, and call it fake news. And even some by some stroke of microscopic luck there's a smoking gun that China can't ignore, nothing will happen. They won't be punished, there won't be restitution. Hell they wouldn't even admit fault.
This is all just posturing by every other major country in the world to 1) damage China and 2) find a scapegoat for their horrific handling of the virus and 3) placate the xenophobic right wingers of their populous that are looking blood while also trying to score points by painting the liberals as being too "woke" to care about this (when as mentioned above, nothing would actually come from it)
Wow. It's incredible that China has "wumao" posting to Thai forums. But, there are 20 million wumao, so I suppose it's easy to devote a couple to this forum.
How much do they pay?

Saying no is completely irresponsible and fairly daft.
The Chinese have since been super aggressive all over the world. Any reasonable person can see this has been a deliberate attack.
Anyway, this Thai PBS propaganda (potentially paid for by China) is pointless. The world WILL find out and there will almost certainly be military conflict in the next 5 to 10 years.
China will pay a heavy price.

The change from GM to Great Wall is a none too subtle symbol of Thailand moving away from it's longstanding relationship with the US and into the claws of China. Coinciding nicely with another move - away from Democracy into another word starting with D that is verboten.
As others have noted, using AI will reduce the need for Thai labour. But hey, it's not like China or the Junta care about the serfs is it? Profits for the elites is order of the day under the current regime.
Agree, and anyway the ruling elite in Thailand (as throughout most of SEA) are ethnic Chinese anyway. The Chinese in SEA have always treated SEA countries as playgrounds for their elites. Cheap, brown women to marry and docile populations to exploit.
SEA is to the Chinese what Africa was to the Europeans and what Central and South America has been to the US.
Same same, but different.

And educated guess would have to expect that there will be several more major outbreaks to include new variants of concern.
Anyway, I think what the OP is asking is not "when is the next time the bars will open?" but rather "when will life be back to normal for an extended period, with bars remaining open?".
My uneducated guess is that it is a minimum of 2 years off.

Southeast Asia saw the highest number of Covid-19-related deaths in over three weeks, as well as a rise in new cases on Thursday, according to collated data.
And, of course, there is a single country is the list whose data would be reliable - Singapore. All the others are various levels of useless. The rest of SEA does not have the capacity to produce reasonably accurate statistics. And, neither are they motivated to be transparent.

of what value is it to "regular people" to call a virus by a name that identified a particular area?
If you are preparing to travel to London where there is a deadly epidemic emerging, do you think it would be easier to catch the fact in the news if it was called
Virus-19 or
London Virus-19 ?

For those of us who know Thai culture well, this is one of those kinds of things that is not solvable, at least not without significant hurt and violence. This is where the culture falls down.
Any Thai who dares to go up against the entrenched must also be and must have a higher rank and larger team than the one being targeted.
For most Thais, righting a wrong is simply not worth the immense risk.
Expect this to go perfectly silent or sadly for someone to get hurt.
