He's ethnically Chinese, so it really is not a surprise he's a Sino supporter.
His change.org supporters are likely to be predominantly ethnically Chinese. Many (or even most) could even be China "wumao" trolls.

Wow. So many regular posters told us how obedient the Thais are and how it was one reason the Thai Covid response was top of the world.
These posters have been perfectly silent for weeks now.
Where have you all gone?

Think Thais should look at what is happening now in Indonesia with Sinovac - 350 Doctors infected with Covid 19 after Sinvac vaccines. Waste of money,
I would not be surprised if the vaccines were the source of some of the infections.
Not hard to imagine that an actor who may have deliberately created AND spread the virus would deliberately export defective vaccines.

A meeting of 35 foreign Chambers of Commerce unanimously declared Friday the need for the Thai government to vaccinate foreign businessmen, foreign employees and their families as a matter of priority.
I must say, I am usually a strong supporter of our expat communities. However, in this case, their urging comes off as fairly stupid, unless their goal is to further alienate expats in Thailand.

Once again, not sure how the government could not anticipate this outcome when many of us idiots here on the TV did.
Better countries started working a year ago to relocate tourism workers they knew would be displaced for several years.
One begins to feel sorry for the Thais at some point

timing is everything.... just when they started to ramp up the pretended benefits for the first Alpha variant, nothing said about the India/Delta variant.... 555
Sinovac vaccine has 71-91% efficacy against COVID-19 Alpha variant – MOPH
I watched an exposes that suggests this Alpha variant is the predominant one found in China and across Asia until recently when the Delta variant has started to take over.
So, China's vaccines, that they could have been working on many months (maybe even years) before the virus began to spread, would be more potent against the original strain.
The expose also notes various global intelligence services have taken an interest in Chinas genetic research... China stated to the UN and others that there were conducting genetic research and also submitted materials to the UN and other bodies noting the dangers of viruses targeting genetic traits. Add to this the now very well known fact that China was setting up genetics labs all over the world, and the fact that all the most severe variants are SOMEHOW in places like India, Africa and the West -- and you can draw your own conclusions.
These people are dangerous. The world needs to take them seriously.

Of course Thailand's vaccine problem has to be self inflicted, couldn't possibly be anything to do with the wealthy nations.
What would Amnesty international know about anything, the real expertise resides in TVF.
The self-interest of G7 countries is the biggest obstacle to ending the Covid-19 pandemic, a group of campaigning organizations said today. Ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, the People’s Vaccine Alliance warned that G7 promises to vaccinate the world by 2022 will be impossible to fulfill, if governments continue blocking proposals to waive patents and share life-saving technology.
You're back! ????
Yes, let's blame the victims of China's pandemic. The victims who have created the only really functioning vaccines. ????????
It's always the Farang's fault.

I guess the Thais don't like 4K+ cases, so they just made sure it was under that.

My instincts tell me this is impossible. Not sure how they are arriving at the number or if it's politically motivated.
If I consider logically, the Thais have FINALLY admitted how significant foreign tourism is to the Thai economy -- more than 20% of GDP.
Foreign tourism has been devastated for the past year.
How have they made up the massive loss? Rice exports?

Not traits normally associated with Thais.
The likely result will be more mealy-mouthed flip-flopping along with arbitrary and ineffective rules which will see caseloads continue to steadily grow.
Completely agree. It's almost a foregone conclusion. Much to love about the Thais, but they are exceptionally bad at this type of national coordination that requires extensive foresight.
Good luck to them..

The proposal was made by prominent medical experts.
The NSC chief said he would put forward the proposal to the CCSA at a meeting today for a final decision.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is expected to have a personal discussion with a medical expert team whether the proposed lockdown of the capital is a probable measure.

Shows their fundamental lack of intelligence even at what is ostensibly the top of the society. A 7-day lockdown is not even long enough for a single round of incubation.
At these numbers, they should be severely restricting movement for a month or longer, at a minimum.

The president of the Phuket Tourist Association says clarity is needed around a number of issues if the island’s July 1 re-opening is to proceed smoothly. According to a report in the Bangkok Post, Bhummikitti Ruktaengam says confusion over tracking apps and vaccine certificates are just 2 of the issues that need to be sorted out.
The sandbox scheme was approved by Cabinet earlier this week and is now expected to be published in the Royal Gazette by Saturday.

Anyone surprised? Thais simply cannot plan. I'm sorry to say it so bluntly, but, even after working here for decades, from the top of society to the bottom, people seem almost entirely incapable of planning and anticipating issues.
That said, they can be decent at scrambling and throwing lots of resources at problems but they are always in a state of lightly organised chaos. And, this pandemic is openly exposing them.

So for those genuine tourists that are coming to Phuket for a few weeks holiday and need to go home and get back to work they will face 2 things if Thailand drops to the Red
- forced quaratine in a hotel with a hefty bill £1600 per person
- unable to work for at least a futher 2 weeks
Government advise is still to avoid overseas travel so they have only themselves to blame
I think if the UK assessed Thailand as Red most other western countries would follow
Not to mention the significant risk of contracting COVID (esp the Delta and Delta+ variants) even if they are vaccinated and being unable to receive care as the health system becomes overwhelmed.

Is Thailand the last country on Earth that has approved the Pfizer vaccine? I don't know, but it sure feels like that!
Well, it's the most Chinese country outside China. I predicted from the outset that they'd find a way to approve the China vaccines first.

Writing is on the wall. There will be a massive blowup driven by China's aggression and the subsequent international response.
Virtually all APAC countries and Western countries are increasing military spending significantly. Japan, Australia and Vietnam are good examples.
The Thais would be quietly doing the same.

Risky business confronting anyone in Thailand - local or foreign. I would not unless I really believed I could not immediately avoid the situation by walking away.
Especially now being a time of extreme stress for many, I would not unnecessarily confront people -- especially Thais, especially being a foreigner.

The only way forward was always obvious: anticipate investing in and procuring vaccines.
Some countries made expensive bets on several vaccine candidates.
The Thais preferred to lie to the international community claiming Thailand was "Covid Free" hoping they would get lucky and lure tourists back.
They 100% deserve the situation they are now in

Why even bother saying this? No one believes it, and it makes the official look like a doofus.
In fact, I'd argue that if the regime's officals aren't prioritizing higher status Thais then they are violating the Thai social contract.
This is an excellent example of Thai culture. The distance between truth and fiction in speech is unimportant.
Speech here is used primarily to protect relationships and not to exchange accurate information.
Fundamental cultural difference between Thais and Farangs

This may be an artifact.
There is sometimes a spike for Tuesday’s numbers due to pileups of lab tests over the weekend. There is a good chance that tomorrow’s numbers will be significantly lower.
It's also a great indicator of the Thai daily upper testing\confirmation limits which appear to be at about 2500\day.

The attachment is from a news interpretation by VOA denied by Lina Tao. That it came from Taiwan news source was not suprising after their government rejected Beijing overture to supply vaccine to help the Taiwanese. Political reasoning. Always verify the news source.
There are plenty of similar reports from Chinese people in China on the ground. Of course, the Chinese government goes to GREAT lengths to block any dissenting voices, so how can we trust anything Chinese state controlled companies say?
Come on, Eric. Do you really think you're fooling someone like me? I have educated friends IN China. I also have colleagues who work at my MNC in China, very highly paid and educated, who are not shy to speak the truth.
I'm not an average retiree. You can try Xi's "tell a good story about China" propaganda on others in the forum. Don't waste it on me.

Thailand reports new daily record of 57 coronavirus deaths; 5,533 new cases

As many of us have been saying for months, if they ramped up their testing nationwide, they'd find they have a multiple of these cases per day. 12K, 18K, who knows?
Their testing is defective. If they were smart, they'd pour significant resources into a national PREMPTIVE TESTING drive.
Alas, they are not smart.
