On the other hand, now that Russians switch over to the UnionPay electronic payment system, the amount of countries utilizing this technology are few. In fact, only a handful of nations including Thailand offers UnionPay. That means , traveling for Russians in the future will be very selective and therefore, maybe I’m looking at this whole thing as a contrarian dilemma, but the amount of Russian tourists could actually increase to Thailand because of this. One can obviously not ignore the economic impact Russians are facing, but I do assume many, if not most Russians, hold other currencies such as dollars or euros which they could easily spend overseas rather than in Russia. Looking back in 2014, the situation in Crimea was just as bad for ordinary Russian and the collapse of their currency, but somehow Russians still managed to travel and enjoy holidays just as normal. Maybe Russia becomes an autarky experiment we never thought was possible. Time will tell..

TAT to ease travel regulations in line with new Covid policies
racket replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Let’s be honest, it was pretty bad pre Covid. Businesses were still struggling, bars were forced to shut down, the military patrolled the streets and the amount of scams and ripoffs reached its peak. This is a systematic approach by the government to destroy the tourism sector because they were afraid the middle class became strong, while being influenced by westerners who entered the country and shared their way of life. Myanmnar 2.0 in the making. -
TAT to ease travel regulations in line with new Covid policies

However, he stated that RT-PCR testing protocols will continue to be used to restrict the number of Covid-19 cases in the country. They better get rid of ThailandPass. The whole system is rigged with scam emails and phishing attempts. Forget it, no one will come. Thailand needs to get rid of test on arrivals. It’s absolutely ridiculous that people need to test pre, after and again on the fifth day. The only compromise I see is to at least waive pcr tests for those who have been boosted. -
I read today that Malaysia opens up on April 1. Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/malaysia-pm-says-to-reopen-border-to-international-visitors-from-april-1 Does anyone know if a border run could be possible at this point? They don't require PCR-test on arrival, except for a Rapid Test Kit-Antigen (RTK-Ag) done within 24 hours after arrival. Obviously, one need to be fully vaccinated (2 dose) and undergo a pcr-test pre departure.

I call BS on this one. I know a few people already who were on the Covid amnesty and had to return home for some period. They came back normally with visa exempt without any issues. Yes one could make the case they did a quick out and in from another country. But why the heck would thailand deny their entry? Especially if they do it with the Thailand Pass that would be approved before them entering. There are so many trolls on fb you wouldn’t know it. Hyping up fear and misinformation.

There have been reports of major changes for expats and long-stayers in thailand who have taken advantage of education visas and volunteer visas alike, including the amnesty. This made their holidays easier without having to leave the country, as well as extending their stay once visas expired. However, as things have now effectively changed from a top to bottom approach, those who have had non-immigrant visas such as ED or volunteers won't be able to renew anymore. This opens up a stark possibility that Malaysia could soon steal all those long-stayers, who have been in thailand during covid. That's because Malaysia is set to re-open anytime beginning of March. So for many tourists or expats who have been here for a while could potentially see themselves in Malaysia very soon. Aside from that, Malaysia is very generous with respect to entry by giving some tourists 90 days upon arrival compared to 30 days in Thailand. But if Thailand would want to attract them back, they would obviously need to rethink and streamline the entry process by completely scrapping testing requirements for vaccinated travelers; as many have already complained about the distrust and reported related scams of testing positive at the airports, forcing travelers to pay thousands of baht for an expensive quarantine hospital-hotel, which completely ruined holidays for these unfortunate people. Philippines opened up yesterday on February 10th for fully vaccinated with a negative covid19 test taken 48 hours prior - that's it! Whether some feel compelled to get back home too early, they could instead be leaving for Malaysia soon. But the question is if Thailand will find a way to lure them back.
